    Scarborough Fair & If i could in 1980 played by Pride Of The Myle was another level of genius. Untouchable and played by a vast amount of bands from hearing Pride Of The Myle. A band well ahead of it's time back in the 80s. Nothing to touch them for me Glen from 1980 until 1990. I was gutted to hear they stopped marching.

    Re the regimental band recording and you touched on it, the amount of tracks, personally my opinion is while they were excellent in my view the lack of tracks makes the price a bit excessive, though I love their music I’d buy it anyway (and do actually have it), but I think lack of tracks vs price takes a bit away from it. Other than that it’s a great listen just like the op one.

    • @MadetoParade
      @MadetoParade Місяць тому

      To be honest my thoughts were about changing the end venue to there purely for festival type idea as it’s a venue that has hosted high profile, mass attended events. There are a lot of options that could be looked at, I also mentioned keeping the current outward route the same and let districts do the return in their own areas. At the moment I have no preferred option, just generating ideas that could be considered

    I paraded with Omagh Lol 850 on the 1st July -I was in the biggest junior lodge in NI in the late 60s which folded ,so was glad to see a new junior lodge in Omagh . I enjoyed this discussion as it brought back the memories of getting my band uniform ready or my lodge regalia ,my dad dropped dead during the 1st July parade in 1985 and my big brother passed last year was in same lodge-so all those memories came back when I marched in Omagh last week as a lodge Member behind my old band ,Blair Memorial. When in the juniors we had a football team ,table tennis in winter , disco on a Saturday-we need to be developing youth and being active in recruiting-the loyal institutions should be returning to becoming the glue that holds the PUL community together.

    The thoughts of the beacons up Belfast Lough is definitely something that should be perused. If not by the orange then certainly by different re enactment committees. I know Darren from living in the same street as a child. Twelfth morning was always a busy one with 3-4 band members leaving the street at the same time and him heading off in the suit with the collarette. Even know time has moved on though it’s good to see traditions haven’t. Great episode this one and a great way to reflect on how family members before us paved the way for us to carry it on. Those thoughts alone make all the blisters and cramps with while.

    Hit the nail on the head. Yes it's a day to celebrate but its so much more too. I always remember my father and grandfather who were in the orange back in the day and no longer here. As a bandsman I pull on my uniform on the 12th morning and memories come flooding back it can be a very emotional day. But we keep doing it for the joy it not only brings us but also the spectators who gather to watch. Wishing you a peaceful and enjoyable day.

    This brings back schooldays memories and of scouring the Loyalist stall at markets for tapes. The 'big' tapes of the mid late 80s that immediately spring to mind were: Pride of The Myle 1 and Myles better. Between those tapes and Blackskull you could wonder how many Ulster bands were influenced by them? Pride of The Village - Blood and Thunder probably one of the first tapes to come out? Cloughfern Young Conquerors - Thunder and Lightning. Glenmavis Sons of William. Everyone bought purely for THAT recording of The Great Escape alone. Shankill Protestant Boys and Young Calvay Volunteers, the title of which now escapes me "HI DIDILEE DEE!!

On other tunes I can think like this Black Beauty stands out, bands used to play it a lot, now it is rarely heard. Drumderg and Last of the Mohicans is another. Everyone was scrambling for the notes when they first started playing that one.

    I had the album which shows them marching in a blue uniform at a parade, the jig time i never heard any band play that before they set the standard in Glasgow and and still do.The skull and the Ycv were formed around the same time the calvay had a great tape out around 83.Ycv did march with the orange order when first formed then after a decade or more they stopped so we rarely saw them unless it was the Abod, another bands anniversary or in belfast.The skull are excellent coming out glasgow green at the boyne celebration they bounce up road with a swagger.The lord carson parade in london done by the Pride of the Rock is tremendous good band with tremendous discipline, the biggest compliment they got was from a ex grenadier guardsman on a anti Ulez demo who thought they were a military band.

    I've never been in a band, just a fan, so can't really speak with authority. The Great Escape was a tune you would have heard regularly standing as a child on the Lisburn Rd in the early 70's. Black Skull certainly gave it a different perspective. The record that introduced me to more of a marching band style was "Marching with the Pride of Whitehill" from Bangor, which may have been even earlier.

    • @MadetoParade
      @MadetoParade Місяць тому

      Hi Alan, i did mention that other bands played it and that Ballyhalbert FORFB recorded it, although at that time I wouldn’t have been aware of it, as a 10/11 year old lad at the time I hadn’t heard too many bands playing it. After the Skull tape it seemed to be played by just about everyone. The pride of Whitehill recording would have been 1978 but I wouldn’t have known about it then.

Our Kingdom ruled the world and we must get back to that ! Those who were able to divide us are busy now rallying against the beautiful hard working decent peoples of the Arabain world , again they used sectarian divide to split them ! Are your m.ps wanting money for their bolthole in Africa ? The fraudsters are out , demanding money for uniforms for drugs ! For division and hate , for toxicity and suspicion ! Get the trash out ! Very interesting and informative conversation. After watching the BBC leaders debate tonight, it's vital unionists in East Belfast vote for DUP leader Gavin Robinson. His performance was very strong and statesman like .Unionism cannot afford to lose a politician like that. I'd urge all unionists to vote, and vote for the unionist who can win in areas it is close with the Alliance party.
