Kamie Outdoors
Приєднався 9 сер 2023
Hi! My name is Kamie and I am an outdoors woman whose passion is to explore the woods and rivers of Northern Lower Michigan through hiking, biking and paddling, embracing each seasons unique beauty and power.
I have overcome many fears that kept my adventurous spirit quiet; fear of the dark, fear of the woods, fear of my lack of knowledge, fear of my lack of experience, to name a few.
My passion is to inspire women to RISE up over their self-doubts, age limiting beliefs and fears, REACH for dreams and goals, and RECONNECT with themselves in nature and all it has to give; peace, healing, strength and renewal.
As a Fitness and Endurance Coach for the past 21 years I have had the privilege of coaching others to attain their personal goals including; Triathlon, Marathon, Ironman and overall fitness goals.
Now, I want to inspire and motivate others to adventure explore the great outdoors in Michigan.

Training for the North Country Trail Half Marathon: a goal to begin a new decade (#60)
Reaching for a new goal at age 60. The North Country Trail Half Marathon. The North Country Trail Half Marathon is held at one of my favorite biking trails, Big M Trails. Big M is near Wellston, Mi and is popular for mountain biking and cross country skiing. I took on the North Country Trail Half Marathon challenge along with a couple friends, and it’s been so fun training with them and sharing all that goes into it. Laughs, sweat, dirt and an occasional oops.
I look forward to race day and crossing that finish line, hopefully without too many falls.

Rescue on the river: are you prepared?
Переглядів 3152 місяці тому
You never know what’s around the next bend. Today’s paddle was my first experience with a rescue. I have never had to rescue anyone in a river, and so thankful I had supplies and ability. It’s surreal the details that played out today; I changed my launch site at the last minute, (which caused me another 20 minutes of drive time)I stopped at the second launch at the last minute, the boys launch...

Northern Michigan Morning. Let’s do this!
During the intro do we see signs of a big tumble on your right arm and elbow? Ouch take care out there and great luck on your 1/2!
Good eye! Yes. I actually did have a fall. All good though. Thanks for the good luck, and for watching 🙂
Sorry to hear your ‘carrot to chase’ was a no show!! 😜
That’s okay. I’ll get him next year 😆
Hi Kamie. I rode the whole lower Peninsula route in july 2021 with the first group along with Acker. It took a friend and I 8 days to do the whole LP. Those pipeline doubletrack steep hills in the beginning of the route had about 4' tall grass when we did it. My friend took a break and put his bike down. Ended up taking him 20 minutes to find his bike in the grass. Glad people are getting out there and enjoying it. I had multiple highlights. The Bowman Bridge campground was awesome and getting in that river when we were riding in multiple 90 degree days. The NCT was very tough and sandy and impassible some times. We routed around it in Traverse city and ended up taking ATV sand trails on accident and falling all over the place. I also recommend camping at sand lake its south east of Mancelona, its beautiful and there is a great bar (Hideaway Bar) on the way to the lake. I had a amazing time. Ill check out your other video. :) www.strava.com/activities/3729324495
I kayak camped at Bowman and it was a really great campground. I have biked as far North as Seaton Creek on the MORE. Plan to do petoskey to the bridge in a week. Then maybe close the gap on another weekend adventure. Matt did amazing work on this route and we are so lucky to have it! Thanks for watching and the comment!
Do I hear a creek😉
That’s the main reason I added music! Yes, indeed you do.🙄 It’s going in to my favorite bike shop, Einstein Cycles. My fav mechanic will take good care of her 😃
Hmmm maybe I can get my club to join for fun!
It’s a great event! Thanks for watching🙂
Sure was a hot day!
Yes it was. So thankful for the aid stations with cold water and ice baggies!
Thanks Kamie, this video is so timely for me since I go to South Manitou in two weeks to Plein Air paint. Gives me a good picture of what to expect! Joyce
So much beauty. You’ll have fun!
It looks awesome!
Awesome... I have never been to the Island, but plan to at some point. What a fun trip and way to score on that camp site. 😊✌
My favorite sites were the old farmsteads. And yes, that was darn lucky to get that site! Thanks for watching🙂
IS THE WHITE HAIRED LADY SINGLE?
I prefer “silver glow” 😉 and she is happily married ❤️
Beautiful scenery.
I’d love to visit again in the fall. 🍁 Thank you for watching! 🙂
What a fun trip with friends! I'm sorry you couldn't make it to North, but South Manitou looks wonderful also
It was very fun. I’m going back with another group of ladies for a day trip in August. Thank you for watching!🙂
Cool picture of the tents lit up at night.
That’s a nice trail.
Nice guy Luke!
He sure was!
As I was thinking how fun it'd be to haul down that trail on a bike, then your bike came up! How fun!!!! I need to go do that too. Im in West MI.
This is part of the NCT near Mesick. Great challenging section! You should!
@@KamieOutdoors Yes, been to Mesick several times. Nice area!!!!
Happy to support another growing channel here in Michigan! Just subbed. Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Thank you!
So Nice...😊
Thanks 😊
The river looks deeper and faster 2nd day.
It definitely is much deeper down river than it was at the beginning. It makes it so interesting how the river changes throughout a paddle.
👍
Looks like easy paddling.
Very relaxing 🙂
you were camping in bear country
@@grafzepplin5944 I feel like all the Manistee forest is bear country. I’ve seen 5 so far over the years while on adventures here in my area. I am always aware, alert, respectful and prepared. The closest encounter this summer was on a hike along the Manistee river on the NCT. Momma and 4 cubs. She already had the cubs up the tree and quickly joined them as we walked slowly away. Thanks for watching!
@@KamieOutdoors atta girl!
Amazing you have all you need packed on that bike! If my horse could keep up w you I'd join you:)
Omg. That would be a blast!!!
Thanks! I believe it is pronounced “pa-N-ear”
Hi , new subscriber here . Awesome setup 😃. I'm a fat bike guy , currently logging in at over 3k on my rig. One thing I'd like to add is I swear by Tannus Armor , I installed them day one & I have hit some gnarly trails. Winter & summer I roll . Not one single flat yet ! I failed to mention I'm a 61 year old guy at 6' 250 lbs. So I'm no lightweight. I ride daily . Used to ride 200 + miles a week . But I've since toned it down a tad 😅. I'm going to roll through your video series . Thank you for allowing us to tag along . Be safe out there 🙏.
Hi fellow fatty! Here in my woods I wouldn’t run tires less than 3”. SAND. I love my fatty, only bike I ride. I switch to 5’s for winter biking. Although I switched to 3.25’s it’s still kinda fat😆 thanks for watching and I’m always trying to keep safe 🙂

Matt's recap I shot 4 years ago! ua-cam.com/video/E5xwJnpSXOk/v-deo.htmlsi=gQtNsGHlxnDk-_Fp
That’s a great link! Matt did an exceptional route for bikepacking enthusiasts that want mostly off road. My friend and I enjoyed sections 2&3 so much! And I hope to do 4&5 soon. He really deserves a lot of thanks for all his hard work on this.
Cool experience with the little fish nibbling on your toes😂
I wish I knew what they were. It was quite the fun experience!
Looks sooo fun. Maybe I should start biking 😊
It’s such a great activity! So many ways to have fun biking; rail trails, dirt trails, or other bike trails, it’s a fun way to adventure outdoors.
I would like to know what kind of handlebars you have on your bike Thanks
Hi! I use Jones H Bar set up. Has been a nice change for my wrists and hands!
What time of year did you ride this; the weather was perfect? I live in hot humid SW Missouri. I was also wondering about mosquitoes.
We rode this route May 27-31 We had a little rain. Surprising the bugs weren’t bad, even at dispersed spot. The tent worms though!! That was another story. Riding through the woods felt like riding through a never ending spider web 😣 The mosquito situation is here now though. Glad we went when it was a little cooler at nights. Thanks for watching🙂
This was great! I'm going to do this route.
Have a great time! I’m so glad my video was inspiring! I plan to complete section 4 and 5 soon!
Thanks for your video! It brings back memories... I got a job offer in Traverse City in 1990 and looking for a change from Tucson,, I jumped at hthe opportunity to experience life n the north woods. I absolutely fell in love with the cycling opportunities in Northen Mi. I rode and toured all over that part of the state; even raced mountain bikes for a few years. Moved back to Tucson in '99 to care for my aging parents, and life sorta got in the way with opportunities for work. Now I'm retired, and hopefully will be able to do some more touring in Michigan; this year is RAGBRAI! I do miss Michigan.
Have a blast at RAGBRAI!
Just getting into bike touring and bike packing and love the idea of this route. Also, very helpful seeing what you are packing and how. Thanks so much. -H
Glad it was helpful!
You are amazing.
Looks like a fun route!!
It was! Matt did an excellent job putting it together for Michigan!
Super steep hills😮
Some were not too fun pushing my loaded bike up!
Your tent looks quick and easy to put up.
It is! Which is especially nice when it’s raining.
Love the sheep and donkey!
What an added bonus to see them up close! I thought it was so funny having them in our camp.
What a fun hike and camp... I sure hope you feel better soon.✌
Thank you. And I did after a few days of rest🙂
Yep.. I know the feeling 👍👍✌️
Awesome 👍
Way to go Kamie!!!😊
Thanks Bill! It’s so rewarding to volunteer.
Hope you are feeling better. Hours of rain yesterday, might clear the air a bit.
I am. It took a while though. It really knocked me down!
So lucky you were there at that time! Great save and great video, love the beauty you captured!
Thank you for watching :) and thank you for the kind comment.
They got a glimpse of the grams I know and love!! They’re lucky!!
One of them almost got the full “grams”. He was not handling it very well. Luckily I kept him under control enough.
You are an amazing woman!
You are a blessing to so many! These boys may not remember your name, but you lady, will be part of their story for the rest of their lives❤
I’m known as “that lady”. While waiting for rescue the one boy told me “I just remembered we saw “that lady” and she told us she would see us again soon. I was thinking I hope she comes! And I looked up and there you were!” My hope is that they learned valuable lessons and will paddle again, to find the peace and joy I do.
You deserve a medal Kamie. Bruce and I capsized our kayak in the Pere Marquette river a couple of summers ago. We were with my brothers and sisters, more experienced than us. The river was high, fast, lots of debris to paddle around. I don’t think I’ll ever convince Bruce to kayak a river again.
Capsizing on a river is pretty frightening. Especially if it’s fast and cold.
Such a Brilliant analogy, illustrated perfectly with your video!! BOOM!
Thank you. Wait until you see the next river video I’m working on. You won’t believe how true this will prove!!
