I like how Bob says being on the floor is not the place for model railway as they pickup dirt an carpet fibers, well these days model locos pick up bits of static grass where people put in static grass but don't give it good vacuum afterwards.Watching people repair model locos which are full of static grass and bits of polystyrene and fluff which coats the pick ups.
Very true
As a professional triang dublo restoration tec You shouldn't use polar based solvents to clean any loco.. there are two parts of a wheel to clean the tread and the contact suface , please research the difference between polar and non Polar based cleaning solvents there only two products on planet earth. Nice video though
Thanks for the heads up
Just seen your video i know it's been on for over a year but if you replace the controller their would be less buzzing and crackling on ce again nice learning curve keep it up cheers Patrick Quinn IRL
Thanks bud glad you liked the video, I have brought a different controller and it has made a big difference. Thanks again for your support I do have a new project I've been collecting for so watch this space
Audio is very quiet, hard to hear even on full volume 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah I thinks it a recording from VHS so has had no enhancement.
Good video though, just had to run it via a stand alone BT speaker.
Was thinking will get my first starter bundle with some older OO Hornby - this is fantastic starter video for a beginner for ebay finds. New sub today
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed the video
Is this channel dead or something
Hi there I'm still here and have a new project waiting to start.. Just had a busy year with work and stuff. But I'll be back very soon
❤hello over there🚂🌟👍
Hi there pleased to see you
Beautiful locomotive! Are these difficult to give them a clean up?
These ones can be unfortunately, as the chassis is very delicate on this model.
@@ooheaven8491 I understand it's a metal split chassis? I had a Piko V100, it was often causing shorts, I gave up on it and sold it cheap as a non-runner.
The noise on the 37 is the motor struggling to turn
Fleischmann N Profi-track back in its heyday and a lot of Hornby Minitrix and Graham Farish stock
Just got one of these and an Airfix Royal Scot at a show. Just needed a warm up.
They are good locos and very easy to maintain
Thanks for sharing these videos, I'm always messing with this Triang stuff, J
No probs I'm glad you enjoyed. I love restoring old locos
Where are you at man?
Still here bud new project and channel relaunch coming soon

Thank you for this video it was really informative as I have this exact model train
Glad it helped thanks
Thank you I enjoyed your video I find them great inspiration as I recover from my brain tumour A suggestion for your cattle market how about a barn for a cattle auction Goole york livestock centre for more ideas
Hi there really glad you enjoyed the video and I hope your recovery is going well,. Thanks for your suggestion I will look into that.
Is this channel dead?
No Im still here just been really busy with work lately
I would have bought the set and then keep it in the box.
That is pretty much what I've done,, it's only been out of box once or twice
most of these locos are not too old. for christmas 1953 i got a shop window display layout with the the green version of the Princess Elizabeth locomotive. Good old Triang before they merged with Hornby.
For someone my age they are a little old lol, thanks for checking in 👍👍
Great stuff, another vote for the H&M Clipper, makes it easy with resistance on high with the XO-4s, but never run any can motors on half-wave, they'll burn up.
Thanks mike
The late, great Bob Symes in his element, as ever.
Glad you enjoyed
Ah, the R8250? I had a couple of them myself and I would say that I cannot recommend them as they make the motors buzz loudly and popped one of my tank engines. So I bought a 1986 Hornby R914 controller and all my trains are happier for it. Also I do recommend the Hornby R921/R965 as well. Your video is welcoming me hack to OO gauge fully and although I do have N scale. My sight isn't what it was and I will have to upscale to OO and HO if I am to enjoy the model trains 🚂😊.
I've just brought an earlier controller will feature in my next video
Great video. My advice to any newcomers is to check out the 1980's and the 1990's Hornby Train Sets. They are bargains and you get more track and things with them unlike the new 2023 train sets which I find very poor value for money. I am more into British Rail myself so it doesn't matter to me. But for those that want newer present day trains. You can be creative and repaint them to modernise them up. Not 100% accurate but its a model railway and I like to have fun with my trains. My favourite freight set from Hornby has to be the Midnight Freight. I got that one back in 1988 for my 8th birthday and it was one of the best train sets I had back them. Here is a like from me. Peter.
Thanks Peter really glad you enjoyed the video, I'll soon be building a new loft layout based on my local heritage line. Good to see you like the old stuff too I agree you can get some good bargains.
watched this VHS loads as a child, pretty sure they’re still kicking around somewhere
Hard to come across I think I got lucky finding it
Good to see that you're getting nice slow running with that controller. I've looked into more expensive controllers, but actually the R8250 is doing fine! Enjoying your vids. Like your style....
Thanks bud that's appreciated
It needs converting to the correct video ratio, probably 4:3
'PromoSM' 🤩
Thanks but I think paying for views and subs is cheating I'd rather build a solid fan base
Pretty good crawl I would say. Great low angle shots by the way.
Thanks very much I'm only using a phone camera so I try hard to keep it as still as possible
Model Railroading is Like An Oversized Art Project But it’s Worth Doin.
Definitely worth doing
Always Take Pride In model Railroading and Yes You Are the Biggest Crittic of the Layout And That is The Truth.

That Looked Like the Proper Height.👍😊
Always Remember this. measure 2 cut 1.
Building A RailRoad is Exciting passionately Fun And Should Never Be Rushed.slow And Easy.
Good tip there
Hey. You really have to be careful when saying something is rare or lost. I for one have a copy of this film. I recorded it on VHS long ago when I had cable TV. I still watch it occasionally. Robert Symes-Schutzmann to give him his full title, made many films right up until near his death. the last film I saw was made for the Ger]man market. He was after all an Austrian Count.
If you have it recorded on VHS then it's safe to say it's probably lost to most of us since this may never get rerun on TV.
A 9F, eh? You little tinker...
Got a nice little plan for it too 😉
First one I ever got you had to strap two 6v lantern battries to it. That one and the one before it were both pritty poor typical hornby it`s cheap lets make it cheaper not better. I built my own but now it`s as easy to buy a cheap pmw power controller and use that, but if you can pick up an old H & M or clipper gaugemaster they take some beating. shame I had a duo unit and sepperate power pack thing the other year you could of had it but it was before you`d started, still holding on to my gaugemaster sim units, 8509 alway was good runner
Still working lush mate,
I think people forget how cheap this controller is, and for the price it's excellent value. Sure a guagemaster is better, but look at the price difference
I agree it has a terrible reputation but for beginners it's just right
Very good sean even if I am your uncle 👍🏻😉
Thanks unc
This was filmed during the early 1980's, judging by the woman controlling a layout using a Hornby Zero One 1st generation DCC system, right at the beginning. Hornby's Zero One DCC system was produced between 1979 & 1986, with many modeller, like myself, still running this pioneering DCC system globally
Hi there thanks for the input on the release date I wasn't too sure
That layout, for its size is amazing
Great programme. I remember watching some of Bob Symes' other programmes on television. This is later than the 70s though. Going by the BR sector liveries on some of the locos and stock puts it around the mid 80s. Thanks for sharing.
No probs thanks for the update on the era of the program
I love this, It's almost a Harry Enfield Mr Cholmondley-Warner and Greyson and skit :)
It was fun to watch
Which year is this from? He seems like the sort of guy you'd want to lead you into battle.
This is from 1970s bud that's about as accurate I can be 👍
Mid 1980s. The BR sector liveries on the models put it around that time - the Intercity executive liveried HST etc.
Robert Alexander Baron Schutzmann von Schutzmansdorff. Austrian aristocracy, but a true gentleman and a scholar.
@@Beatlefan67 Austrian? I hope he wasn't forced to bat for the other side?
Thanks you for sharing this lost video
No probs you're welcome,, feel free to share it on your social media
Bob Symes was a real Gentleman . I believe He was of Aristocracy , perhaps Austrian ? He knew his stuff and was a very clear communicator . Sadly and badly missed.
Amen to that bro
Robert Alexander Baron Schutzmann von Schutzmansdorff
it took me ages but this must be N or maybe TT gauge.
I think it's N gauge but still a really good introduction into model railways
Where'd you find this at
Lucky find I guess
That Castle is an old Airfix one and the airfix locos are very reliable. I bought an LMS 4F loco nearly 3 years ago and she runs beautifully. So much so she's the pride of my fleet. That Hall is rather quick off the mark 😂😂
I love airfix I've got a royal Scot that runs perfectly they are very reliable
@@ooheaven8491 could we see that royal scot run as well as Princess Elizabeth please
@@Northerner_Transport_Hub I've got a video planned with my royal Scot doing a slow run with the horrible new hornby controller

Briiliant. There are 3 films in total, this "How to build a model Railway", "A linside look at Model Railways" and "Another Lineside look at Model Railways". Also worth looking out for is "Model World"- 3 parts to railways and all are/were available on UA-cam. RIP Bob Symes. Legend.
Cheers il have to have a look, be great if they are out there
