Hi guys now I keep hearing the rumour about the Hornby R8250 Train Speed Controller not being very good so I've decided to try and slow run a few old locomotives using the same controller.
Good to see that you're getting nice slow running with that controller. I've looked into more expensive controllers, but actually the R8250 is doing fine! Enjoying your vids. Like your style....
Thanks bud that's appreciated
Pretty good crawl I would say. Great low angle shots by the way.
Thanks very much I'm only using a phone camera so I try hard to keep it as still as possible
Ah, the R8250? I had a couple of them myself and I would say that I cannot recommend them as they make the motors buzz loudly and popped one of my tank engines. So I bought a 1986 Hornby R914 controller and all my trains are happier for it. Also I do recommend the Hornby R921/R965 as well. Your video is welcoming me hack to OO gauge fully and although I do have N scale. My sight isn't what it was and I will have to upscale to OO and HO if I am to enjoy the model trains 🚂😊.
I've just brought an earlier controller will feature in my next video
Great stuff, another vote for the H&M Clipper, makes it easy with resistance on high with the XO-4s, but never run any can motors on half-wave, they'll burn up.
Thanks mike
I think people forget how cheap this controller is, and for the price it's excellent value. Sure a guagemaster is better, but look at the price difference
I agree it has a terrible reputation but for beginners it's just right
First one I ever got you had to strap two 6v lantern battries to it. That one and the one before it were both pritty poor typical hornby it`s cheap lets make it cheaper not better. I built my own but now it`s as easy to buy a cheap pmw power controller and use that, but if you can pick up an old H & M or clipper gaugemaster they take some beating. shame I had a duo unit and sepperate power pack thing the other year you could of had it but it was before you`d started, still holding on to my gaugemaster sim units, 8509 alway was good runner
Still working lush mate,
Very good sean even if I am your uncle 👍🏻😉
Thanks unc
