My name is Helmuth, I am an expert in eco-driving. With this channel I try to show how efficient modern cars can be driven and how this is done. I am testing cars with all kinds of drivetrain, ICE, Hybrids, PHEVs and BEVs.
I also want to show you the beauty of the area I live in (Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria).
Normally I do the Ecodriver-Loop (75 kms/46,2 mls) which contains a hillclimb, rolling hills, a descent, country road, motorway and city traffic. With PHEVs I drive this loop with an empty battery in order to find out about the efficiency of the drivetrain, in addition I do a range test.
And as a bonus, sometimes I'll take you with me on a business trip to show you the beauty of the Alps and the best way to drive a Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge ;)

I don't know, I can achieve much better numbers in my Honda City here in Brazil using a gasoline that have 27% ethanol (100%). I'm not convinced at all

Very very good test. Usually i saw 100% city rest or motorway test. This test very good showing normal usage.

I have been looking for a real review of this car for a long time, where there is a climb up the hill, highway and city. And to be honest, the fuel consumption shocked me. Your driving tips are mostly the exact same as needed to get the best efficiency from an ICE car; speaking as someone who beat Jaguars claimed combined MPG in a "S" type by over 20%, on a 450 mile combined trip featuring 350 miles of high speed motorway and 100 miles of low/very low speed, inner city driving around London. (Cruising at 80 MPH by speedo, on the motorway) I currently drive a 2016 Soul EV; it is a great little car, I get 4miles/KWh average on motorways, 4.5 on country roads, and 5+ in flat, urban areas; it is a great driving position for me (2 metres tall, badly damaged back), but a bit limited in boot space and range; If I want to drive from my home in the UK, to the Alps for some skiing*; route planner says I will need 22 charging stops, there and back !! * I cant any longer, but for my wife and daughter.

Here to confirm why I'm not picking a Subaru again if you only have one car and have mixed use more in the city. Those boxers engines are great on the highway and light off-road but city consumption is terrible
So why not talk about battery life. Limited range equals more frequent charge cycles. Consider these lithium batteries have a max 1500 cycles. At say 100 mile average range, car has a battery life of 150k miles and car becomes worthless.
100km/h on motorway? that's a joke. You should put up numbers at least at 130km/h

@@bikeman123 No. I mean every word. If you don't understand what I am saying and hear the nuances even in english maybe your english needs some upgrade? For the slow ones in here: I never say or said you should brake on inclines, I said it is helpful for a good economy not to accelerate or maintain the speed on inclines at all cost. Slightly reducing the speed (NOT braking) helps to drive efficiently.

You shouldn't do it all the time. Every once in a while is no problem.

if you eco drive it doesn't matter if the car is heavier and may even help you lower the consumption since there is zero engine brake so the car will go further without accelerating

Always wanted to ask you about the IG-L restrictions on that part of the motorway. We went several times, from Switzerland, to Zillertal and the lovely villages in Voralberg and Tyrol regions, with our EV. I asked ASFINAG about if foreign registered cars are exempted from these restrictions, but they redirected us to the Austrian Environmental Ministry and didn't got a clear answer from them. While I'm not a native German speaker, I could understand that foreign registered EVs are not exempted. Greetings from Switzerland, your Romanian follower!

In germany no one drives 105-110 km/h on a motorway. I am wondering what would be real consumption at 140-150 which is more of a standard speed here on apassenger car
This is irrelevant, as these videos are taken in Austria, and on this motorway there is a 100 kph restriction.

Anticipation ! Anticipation ! Anticipation ! That’s the name of the game. I drive a heavy goods Vehicle at 44.000kgs and average 14/15 MPG uk in a 12 hour shift. We have Scania, Mercedes Actros & M.A.N lorries on our fleet. Scania do quite well over and above the other two makes of lorry. Thanks for sharing your video Ecodriver. Brilliant run, thank you! The Aygo X is a perfect compromise and a better way to save Gaia. Smallest possible car, yet with full [security] kit and a surprisingly good drive. Just enough power, with a CVT for ease of use _and_ economy. Tried and tested simple engine without direct injection, turbo or unnecessary hybridization that _still_ manages to beat all else in fuel economy. And best of all, big wheels and slightly higher ground clearance for poor road conditions, especially in winter. And it's adorable!
The tests and the explanations you provide are priceless, almost impossible to find somewhere else. I always asked myself if it's worth to carry a heavier battery every day for the amount of electricity I regenerate on long downhills, considering I cannot charge regularly. The Kuga PHEV is 170kg heavier than FHEV.
I haven't had experience with the Hyundai PHEV, but the Toyota RAV4 PRIME has a heat pump. During the winter, the engine doesn't come on. However, if it is extremely cold, the gas engine is needed to heat the cabin. I live in Canada. I'm extremely happy with this vehicle. With the way I use this vehicle, I'm getting an equivalent of 2.7 km / per 100 liters.

The e:HEV X is $39990 new, on the road. That's the lower spec of the hybrids, loses the power tailgate and trivially, things like dual zone aircon that my base model Peugeot has.

It's unclear to me: when the drivetrain runs in series or series-parallel, i.e. the engine is, or is also, acting as an electricity generator but the wheels are, or are also, driven by the electric motor, does this count towards electric distance driven on the dash?
Hello. Interesting video. So you see that anticipation is very important. I have learned to anticipate more since I got a truck driver's license, and I also apply this when driving with a caravan. I try never to stand still. Above all, keep rolling. I am looking for a PHEV and especially for a car that can tow a 1200kg caravan well and economically. Things like: do I have enough electrical energy left in the mountains? Does an electric motor work well on a long trip from the Netherlands to Spain? (with long steep hills like at Lyon and at the border crossing with Spain) I'm deciding between the Lynk & Co 01 and the 2023 Kuga PHEV with respectively 1800kg and 1500kg towing weight. Are you going to test more cars? I'm especially curious about the above. Thanks.
