How To Draw Arches In Perspective
This video takes you step by step through how to draw a cool arch in perspective. It starts with using ellipses to create the cylinder, then the construction of the surrounding structures. And finally, transitioning from the blocky construction to more organic forms.
Arches are built from ellipses, so watch the video below to learn about the principles of ellipses.

    • @DrawshStudio
      @DrawshStudio 7 днів тому

      A lot of times people want to think “mathematically” in perspective but it doesn’t translate into numbers like mathematics. But if I take your meaning, you would use something like a 2pt grid or the tracking sizes in perspective method both talked about on this channel to get a consistent sense of scale. I suggest watching the perspective playlist if you haven’t :)

      I see what you mean. In architectural drawings you do need accurate scale, and that is where “plan” and “projection” drawings come in to be able to get specific measurements on drawing.

    4:09 I still don't understand this part why the standing ellipse got tilted but not the horizontal one? why the tilt touch the upper side of the box? why not touch the bottom one instead and make itu towards the left side?

      This makes it appear visually correct to our eye. If you construct an ellipse standing you will see it follows these ideas.

    Been trying to comprehend this for a year. -Is the station point always supposed to be on the 90 degree circle line? how does that scale up to a 180 degree Lens. at some point/some way, the station point must make its way to the CVP, Since 180 is flat Right!? -if you move the 60 degree len's Station point further back, is it still a 60 degree lens?? - How does this work for upward angles towards the zenith? Say a 90 Degree cone lens, with the zenith 15 degrees above the CVP. I'm assuming the Horizon Line must be 1/4th the circles diameter below the bounds of the circle. Because that's how much the zenith is offset from the CVP, and Horizon Line should be a total of 90 degrees from the Horizon Line. Been running so many experiments on this....There's so many questions to this method that still seems unanswered in all the videos and all the books. No one has really gone passed the surface of the concept If anyone out there has figured this out please help me!

    • @DrawshStudio
      @DrawshStudio 18 днів тому

      Those are good questions. My videos make much more sense if you watch the perspective r playlist since all the concepts build on each other, that may answer all your questions.

  • @Nightlurk
    @Nightlurk 20 днів тому

    Thank you for the explanation. I do have one major question though, when you draw an ellipse you start with the minor based on the VP which is clear, but I have yet to find anyone anywhere providing anything remotely close to an explanation of how to determine the offset at which the major intersects the minor (relative to the bounding box center), nor did I find any explanation on the offset between the start and end points of the segments that make up the major and the minor, and the edges of the bounding box which they intersect. Everyone just says "you have to eyeball it" which is not really an explanation of a deterministic approach.

    • @DrawshStudio
      @DrawshStudio 20 днів тому

      The angle depends on where the widest points of the ellipse are after they are constructed. The major axis must go through the widest points, which is offset from true center. It’s not “eyeballing” but observing where that major axis would land relative to the constructed ellipse. Hope that helps

      Important to remember that drawing is different than photography and 3d rendering. In a photo or 3d you can break these “rules” which are not flawless. However, they will make it feel the most correct in drawing. It is an imperfect system but used to guide the feeling of accuracy to the viewer.
