So if I am individually credentialed with insurance with my NPi 1 and I am starting a solo private practice under a single member LLC, do I still only use my npi 1 to bill and just use my business EIN to make sure everything goes through the business entity ?

Thanks for all the thought you put into this Matthew. Do you have thoughts on how to convert people who use free resources into clients? Wouldn’t lots of the viewers be people from out of your home state? Is there a way to target content, on youtube or instagram, to a home state?

I'm newly licensed and was very confused about the private practice process, so thank you so much for all your videos! Do you get referrals from other companies like Alma, Headway, etc. and then put them into SimplePractice? Or do you keep each client on the site they got referred from? I'd like to start with SimplePractice but it seems like it would take some time to get individually credentialed and that it would be worth it to start on Alma/Headway and go from there. Would love to hear your thoughts!

It sounds like Matthew uses Simple Practice and Headway. Does that create logistical challenges? I so appreciate being advised not to build a practice entirely around a startup / Headway.

This is off-topic, but I have been looking for a straightforward road map of how to start a private practice, and I can't find nothing that is straight to the point. Most videos talk about pros and cons, bits, and pieces, but nothing from the first step to the last step where you're in business. If anyone has seen this information somewhere please let me know. I had Alma for a few months last year. Received no referrals . Have been on Headway with great success and it’s free. I also dislike the consult feature . I never do consults on Headway. I just see the patients . They keep adding me to different panels. I never had an issue with payment or claims not being paid . Get paid every 2 weeks like clockwork . I feel a lot of support. They do multi state credentialing and it’s fairly quick . I was going to give them another try but to recredential everything will take several months and option will be 6-9 months . No thanks. I get regular referrals from Headway. Anyhow hope that helps. Btw I use ICANotes + and Zoom

I would like to share mine and many other clinician's recent experiences with both platforms: Both platforms have been doing massive claw backs following the Change incident. I have lost thousands of dollars in denied claims and the attached client because both platforms have taken the following approach: Denied claim comes in and the first thing the platforms do is notify clinician and client via email. Both platforms then attempt to debit the client's card on file for the denied claims. If this does not work, they give the client a little time to pay but then take the money from the clinician if the client does not pay the invoice. Most people who have insurance can't afford to dish out hundreds of dollars to cover weekly sessions for several months. The client's response is to quit therapy and not pay the invoice. As a clinician I am not pursing those who did not pay as I personally have chosen to not do that to the client. I have reached out on multiple social media platforms and learned this is a problem throughout our field of practice. The claims are being denied based on claims that the client was not covered at the time of service or deductibles were not met. Please note that both platforms are "verifying" coverage prior to client engaging in services. I have received correspondence from multiple providers who have filed complaints with the Attorney General's Office. I am also considering same. Choose wisely.

I have been using Alma for about 2 years and have lost thousands in claims along with the attached clients following the Change event and due to Alma. Alma is not appealing the denied claims and is not providing support to the clinicians. That is why I am here now. I plan to find another way to handle credentialing and billing so that I don't lose my private practice.

If you partnered with headway and chose to use their billing tool for an ehr to start and then migrated to a simple practice later, would you need to depanel with headway and get credentialed on your own before moving your client data there? Or can you still be credentialed with headway and then transition everything over to simple practice once that’s going?
