Keep in mind also Lion, Pai, Eileen and Kage have an 11 frame jab.
And that is just a micro decision in one round, jesus VF5 is such a deceiving fast game. Couldn't you also hold P+G when you block to break the throw?? Great video and can't wait to learn more in the future!
Thanks for the tips, I wrote it down. Also as a bonus, I learned a lot about Jean! He's the coolest I found in the REVO Demo.
Online players be like, delayed moves? You mean moves?

@@HRCaptainHonest Thank you so much, bro. I wish you a happy 2025! 🤜🤛
Evade Fuzzy Cancel to block low circular attack only applies when (17-n) frames are available, where "n" represents your advantage frames. This formula (17-n) indicates the time when blocking cannot take effect. In 10:04, the opponent Jean's 2K+G execution is 24F, 6P defended advantage is -4. Apply formula (17-(-4))=21<24, block low circular success. If opponent is Brad, his 2K+G execution is 19F, in the same situation, 21>19, block low circular failed.
What is execution ?
@@Chaoblahippo He meant frame startup. In VF5 frame data, the frame startup graph is shown as "Execution".
@@NovaSeiken thanks bro.

Great video, but this defensive tutorial is limited to movement and guard. You can also queue throw escapes when you evade or after extremely unsafe moves.

Superb video, really helpful and well explained. Thank you!
Excellent overview of some essential VF defense concepts. VF5 deserves to be more widely recognized as the masterpiece it is. The next iteration bringing the series back closer to the mainstream is going to be very interesting. Are you looking forward to trying online play when R.E.V.O. is released on steam later next month?
if this was an essential VF concept, what are the advanced ones?
@@alesscif I pray to God for the revival of Virtua Fighter, that it revolutionizes fighting games once again and that it explodes. 😄 Tekken is in dire need of competition. *Real competition.*
Great entry tutorial. Also want to add fuzzy guarding will lose to low throws attempts if user immediately fuzzy at -5 🙂
@@Vfnumbers Thanks for your kindness, bro. I would include this info on a future video dedicated to throws and throw breaking. 👻
Which game do you think has more realistic karate,Tekken or VF?
Some techniques are better technically-executed by Jin, others by Jean. The lack of an actual Shita Tsuki in Jin kinda bothers me. He only displayed a pristine Shita Tsuki in T7 RA animation. (It should ideally be his df1, actually, but they chose Chudan Kizami Tsuki for it exactly like his 2,1 animation) Jean has it in 3PP. He has Shita Tsuki from both hands. Jean 9K+G is a very sluggish Jodan Mawashi Geri, technically speaking. Very brutal, but sluggish. Jin m4 would be much more technically pristine, BUT Jean would also do it *perfectly* in 6PPK (the third hit) Jin 4~3 Do Mawashi Kaiten Geri is one of the variations of the technique (the one I am more fond of). The roll is more diagonal, your body tilts toward the side along the rotation. Functions like a mix between a spinning hook kick (Ushiro Mawashi Geri) and an axe kick (Kakato Otoshi Geri). This variation can work both in close range but also very long ranges. Jean variation on his 46K+G Do Mawashi Kaiten Geri is the frontal roll. It functions more like a rolling axe kick. Jean variation is much more efficient and elusive when you're very VERY close to the opponent. Jean Yoko Geri in 4PK is technically pristine to its very minute details. Jin ff4 is brutal and very powerful indeed, but his guard while he kicks is not technically pristine. So... both karateka are AMAZING in their own way. They are both highly technical. They (Namco and Sega) also put quite some attention on detail. Jin 3,1 is not a punch, but actually a PUSH. It is meant to disrupt the opponent's stability so they have to reestablish their base and therefore will be completely unable to check the gedan mawashi geri (low kick) because they will be planting the supporting foot on the ground to reestablish their base by the time the low kick is being delivered: you cannot raise a supporting leg when your body weight is being distributed into it. You will see similar subtleties in Jean 66P+G throw.
@@NovaSeikenyou don't like lidia? She's motion captured by Tetsuya Naka
@@KazuyaKai923 Lidia movelist is a martial masterpiece as well. They did so great bringing Tatsuya Naka when creating her. I didn't mention her because I assumed it was a comparison between Jin and Jean Kyokushin. 👻 Her movelist is Shotokan 101, as faithful as a videogame character can possibly be. (She has two Kyokushin-inspired moves, tho.) The only downside to me is... I was a big fan of her *gameplay* in T7. She was a legit Tekken character with an identitarian power of blitzing in from neutral just like a Shotokan karateka would. Her gameplay in T8 is atrocious and was completely profaned in my opinion. They drasticallly nerfed her Tekken buttons in exchange for a "Kaioken"-powered braindead, unrelenting rushdown.
Thief!!!
This sounds like it needs so much guessing . Why can't you sidestep (evade) both throws and mids ? that is messed up it is basically a CH guessing fuckfest like t7 from the sounds of it.... I expected something more solid and coverage based like tekken 5 and tekken 6
VF mostly revolves around mids and throws just like Tekken revolves around mids and lows. You can maximize your odds, but no defensive option is unbeatable no matter how optimized it is. The upside is that there is an *objective component* in Virtua Fighter when it comes to evasion, whereas in Tekken (particularly Modern Tekken) everything is subjective and you constantly run the risk of getting clipped by "homing linears" according to the characters in question, hitboxes, hurtboxes, current axis and frames when the movement started, movement category, etc. Whereas in VF, if you evade a linear, you evaded it, period. If you tried to evade a specific side and the opponent used a move that covers that specific side, you get clipped. Linears are always linears. Half-circulars are half-circulars and always cover one specific side. Circulars are circulars and always beat Evade.
@@NovaSeiken That sounds less complex tbh because in tekken certain moves like lee's standing 33 track his strong side at close range. But lose such tracking at mid range. (same for df44 tracking SSWL his strong side) Imo these obscure interactions added some depth to tekken. Truely objective tracking is too boring and simple. Though ofc I am aware it has it's advantages... Thanks for the informative video as always.
You could still buffer in a throw break too in theory. Just hold G and then hold down P as you cancel the movement. Still gotta guess the actual throw on context tho.
2:55 you can't crouch instantly ? That is fucked up
You can duck highs and mid-highs, but throws will connect when you recover from an attack in a standing state. That is why Fuzzy Guard is so important in this game. On the other hand, throws *always* lose to abare. There are no throw frametraps. You can be -9 and still launch an opponent who tried to throw you. (If you are -10, a throw attempt is guaranteed. Basically functions as a punish, but you can still break it.)
@@NovaSeiken I just finished watching the whole video and I admit I judged it too fast. But throws tracking even sidestep ducks seems messed up and brainrot to me. they should make it circular attacks or those homings + delayed timing only. Interested in what else the game has to offer though
@@Chaoblahippo Evades work differently from Tekken. They can either fail or succeed, and they only succeed if the opponent is attacking (ie. In the startup animation of an attack). A throw is not an attack so the evade fails. A failed evade has recovery frames and can be punished, hence why a delayed attack works. It's not that the attack homes, it's that it's punishing a failed evade in recovery. This is how throws beat evade; it's not that it's homing-- it's punishing something in recovery, which in this case is an evade.
@Chaoblahippo What he didn't mention yet but most likely will in his future throw escape video is Evading throw escape guard, and Evading throw escape dash cancel guard. Expert level defense options. It gets deep when it comes to defense options in VF. Its many defense options for all levels of players, not counting defensive weapons (or defense destroying weapons) a particular character may have on top of all that.

@@Nico-tz7ut Things are that bad, huh..? 😕 I've seen this sentiment shared everywhere I look. Even I am not eager to finally start playing the game when I get home. Seeing everyone so negative with the current state of Guessen 8 is draining away all my motivation to even invest myself on it. I'm very sorry for that, bro. CBM pulled this one off in TWT but there was only one single delayed b2,1
@@gin2919 It makes it much easier to get the magic backturn Tornado because ZEN u1 has no risk of whiffing for lack of range. 👻 You sacrifice extra damage for consistency.
Wtf that is broken! Hope next patch nerfs it
@@Chaoblahippo It's not easy to pull this off. 😅 As long as the opponent doesn't stand up, the difference in damage from the regular staple is not even *that* gigantic. 👻
@@NovaSeiken I think such spike combo's should not exist in tekken. Lee's wall combo also needs an IMMEDIATE nerf
@@Chaoblahippo Man... I liked Lee's HMS uf4 receiving that spike! I mean... the combo is so æsthetically pleasing and the fact that HMS uf4 gained such an utility was a great addition IMO. The problem with Jin's spike techs is that Breaking Step gives access to ECD1. It is a major rise in okizeme power considering ECD1 now hits grounded just like Heihachi ff2. Dude went from a literal defective NON-OKIZEME in T7 (total incapacity to hit grounded opponents: Side Roll Right beats all his ground-hitting options), to a threatening okizeme in T8, _particularly when backturned._ Also, the *mere existence* of d2 effectively *forces* the opponent to stand up as quickly as they can by teching. Staying down in T8 like they would in T7 (as Jin had nothing to threaten you with since Side Roll Right would beat everything he tried) will lead to getting a free d2, a free ZEN4 divekick and so on. You don't even need to go for d2: the fact that it EXISTS forces the opponent to stand up as quickly as they can. It is more desirable for T8 Jin that he gets combos from the back than from the front because of the relaunch potential from breaking step 1. Namco has a thing in _creating insane solutions and insane new problems_ for Jin *every single time.* Like... they fix his non-lateral movement by giving him a regular-sized male character movement, they fix his non-okizeme by giving him a more threatening okizeme, but then they give him a *non-backdash* to make him unable to create whiffs by moving backwards, delete his most important low for high level Tekken and destroy the identitarian, universalizing effectiveness of his Parry. They just can't help themselves. They cannot stop doing it.
@@ChaoblahippoI think it’s annoying asf but maybe It’s not they broken if pros ain’t doing that well with him
@@NovaSeikenhe’s doing well at a high level to be honest people place very well with Jin he’s basically perfect besides his backdash. So idk if he needs any better lows until they remove the ch on 2 1 4. But Is there anyway you can explain why jins parry is better in t7 than t8
If I understood from watching a bunch of Kazuya and Jin videos the debate is too heavily leaning to the tournament play and disregarding the Tekken King rank where most of reactable things are most of the times unreactable..
How long did it take you to figure this out?
She showed me her combo. I wondered if I could pull off something similar with Jin from his Heat Dash, considering I was already aware of this weird, chaotic axis behavior when doing backturned massacres and you didn't get a 100% backturned combo: bf2,3 juggle would behave erratically in a way your opponent's legs would face you again after the Tornado instead of his upper body. Just experimented with it until I found the sweet spot I needed. 👻

Even if you hate Noctis he taught us not to whiff and sidestep to stop the running 1+2. What's Clive helping you do, to not sidestep at range 4? Guess the 50/50s? 😂
@@Allblaster Clive is a different kinda animal... 😅😆 Noctis is so much more *Tekken* than he is. Noctis has amazing Tekken buttons such as his df1, b2 and d3, also even a perfect Tekken button at ff1+2, but they're pretty much self-contained.
