For many people in northern Europe, not just the UK, garlic is an alien substance that has no place in traditional cooking. You should have heard my grandfather saying nasty things about the "garlic guzzlers" in the south. Kindly keep in mind that (a) British cuisine in general is nothing to write home about, (b) rice isn't a staple in British cuisine (outside of Indian style meals) - so it does not surprise me that she thought that "fried rice" would mean the rice would get done by just frying it. I assume she never cooked anything with rice before. But, hey, it'll have a nice crunch to it.

Uncle Roger also wrong. This no induction stove, that another type of electric stovetop that seems to have no name in the US. We call this Ceran cooktop here and it's basically a grill inside of a ceramic glass. The grill rod heats up, heats the glass, heats the pot, heats the inside of the pot and that's all one needs to know why it is so much worse than induction. Uncle Roger also seems to think that gas is an option available everywhere. Getting a gas stove into my home is totally cost prohibitive, so only electric is an option (or work with a portable gas container which isn't very comfortable).

You definitely have an accent, but it's not as broad as most Chinese people living abroad. My ex comes from Shenyang and after living in Sweden for 20 years, she still really can't speak neither Swedish nor English. She gets around, like I do in China, but the vocabulary is limited, the grammar is a bit off, and then the pronunciation.

Tap water quality varies from country to country. In China it's undrinkable, in the Nordics it's of better quality than store bought

Well most westerners do not understand that Asian cuisines are not rubber stamped and generic across the borders of Asian countries. They will say “ let’s get Chinese!” Then go get sushi. I have gotten to the point where I will Make my own Asian inspired dish but use things from many different cultures in one dish. I don’t call it authentic anything other than “dinner.”

Fun fact about tap water in Europe - it's perfectly safe to drink it directly from tap, you don't even have to boil it. It's filtered at source and samples are regularly checked in lab.

This is very old, and I've seen this video multiple times, YES I have taken a chicken that was next to me and cooked it. It isn't great. You need to allow the full cycle of Rigor Mortis to run its course before cooking. (Also, de-feathering a bird is and absolute PITA. Even with scalding water).

Tap water in most of Europe is ok. Here in Norway we put our tap-water in nice bottles, label it VOSS and sell it to the US.

10:53 i've seen people who say they have a peanut allergy post that peanut oil isn't a problem, since it's not the part of the peanut that causes their allergies; i personally don't have a peanut allergy so i can't verify, so take with a grain of salt

here where i live tap water is drinkable, there have even been scandals where bottled water companies make claims about "mountain spring" etc etc but they were just bottling and selling tap water; that said, i prefer to drink filtered water, cuz while tap water is still drinkable it doesn't taste good; i do still cook with it tho, not gonna matter much when it's been turned into holy water(boil the hell out of it)
