We built some houses in Welford back in the 80s and the river ran the back of the site. Me and my mate yoused to go and free line the river at dinner break with Putty on the hook. We had quite a few trout out to over 2pound, they all went back though. Happy days.

Im just back from s esk. Its hard to fish, very tight very fast, a toby floats its so fast lol. I did single spey with an 11ft switch rd but i wish id had my 14ft just to easier get it out and control it, used big flies and a sinking poly leader, i shouldve had copper head tube maybe, did get a huge pull and let go right away on the pool with the low wall along it, first part just 2 3rds along almost at the dangle. I think its a place thzt needs a bit water, it had a small freshet so to speak and was nice when i was there. Its a river you fish once to find out what you shouldve done/brought, then attack properly next time which i will by the way, north esk next maybe or dee though. S esk - i will see you again better prepared for you

Please keep going- I haven't caught one yet and I just love being there and having a go- I will do it one day but I love it all, planning dreaming watching your vids buying stuff etc. Meeting folk too. Nah don't give up at least until I've bumped into you to shake your hand. I didnt fish for 20 years before watching you and iain bain sb here I am with my tent taking my 14ft and my 11ft to any river I can get on and have time to- that's where your vids keep me going. Love it

Understand your frustration, I had four days washed out on the Tweed in April, two days washed out on the Tyne in May, five days on the Spey where it was so cold the sea trout weren't running, hoping for better on the Tyne next week.

I dint know why you dont catch more, you cast well etc, im the same by the way so ive no advice! Was that Al marconi spanish guitar at the start?

Shame about the weather it would certainly make fishing more in our favour if we could control it. Looking forward to our trip in September hoping we have good water for then.

Great video Chris, shame about the conditions. Tweed is a bugger of a river at times! Maxton is actually my nearest beat, about 5 minutes from the front door, however, have never fished it for some reason, so great to get a look at the water! Cheers.

Nothing worse than when the river is a washout. I'm remembering a day i had, when i was staying in Ballathie house. Total washout and Jack Charlton was there with a film crew as well, lovely surroundings right enough, for when you can't fish.

Feel your pain Chris, I had three consecutive days on lower Tweed all three flooded off. Still a lovely part of the Country to wet a line when conditions allow.

Great video again sir it was funny when cleo made an appearance when the sausages were getting eaten remembered me of a TV program years ago and you can catch a fish if have a line in the water

Here in Wales 'Natural Resources Wales' have not just stopped stocking themselves, they have forbidden my local club from stocking salmon fry from the old mill hatchery that members have built with hard work-and they can no longer take late season fish from this little river to provide the spawn; they say it is because there is 'no evidence' that stocking works. More to the point it would cost them money-and expertise they no longer have. We should boycott the rod licence.

Thanks again-lovely scenery; as an intended constructive point- could you explain briefly how far up river you were-maybe a basic map ?- the Tay system is vast and I've failed to catch on it on my visits so far (few and very far between) and I'm not familiar with the beats. I f it's any consolation I'm just back from 2 days on the Moy in Ireland- I didn't even bother on the other two but just enjoyed the tranquillity on upper river. We nipped down to Ballina and saw the Ridge Pool, where there must have been thousands, rather than hundreds of fish- often three or more in the air at one time-pity the poor sods thrashing it into a froth- and nothing doing ! Keep at it-the world will turn.

Great wee chat with Bob. Thank you for sharing this. I don,t want to sound like a dinosaur or receive hateful pc comments, BUT, why oh why do we seem to be ignoring predation ???? It is absolutely off the scale just now. Remember we are not talking about a few more fish for people to catch. We are talking about saving the Atlantic Salmon in the UK ! A parting question if I may ? What is the difference between a deer and a seal ?? Sorry for the rant Chris and Bob.

Great video into what's going on with the rivers in Scotland and England aswell but missed a point on the amount of predators that are in the rivers now that the gillies used to take care but not allowed to now due to political issues its good to see tay is having a good run of salmon just now though 👍

I find these videos relaxing Have you considered having a go on the test Avon or itchen for a chalk stream salmon test is a bit like sight fishing the Avon more like Scottish fishing

Suggest that you watch the Scottish Outdoor life latest video as he is fishing the Tay and giving some very good advice how to fly fish it, also how to fish the spinner on it. P.S. he catches fish on a regular basis.

Just into July and Scottish outdoor life reporting and seeing many salmon coming into the Tay system, so maybe things are looking up!!Cheers Peter and tight lines soon.

Great video once more and indeed a lovely beat with great looking runs and pools. Not sure if you fished the Sunray all day or not but as mentioned below it needs to be cast almost square across and swung across the pool using downstream mend if need be to create a belly in the line, or simply stripped fast just fyi. I usually try the sunray very early in the morning or in the late evening when sun is low. Thanks for taking the time to produce & share. Tight lines.

Chris, it's called fishing not catching for a reason, don't worry about the lack of fish. I fished the Forres Association beat from 1980 until 2002, when I emigrated to Australia. I know how hard it is to get a springer from that beat. I visited there last year and was lucky enough to get a grilse on my first day out, from the run you fished at the Cloddy pool. All my fishing is now done in Tasmania for wild browns and stocked rainbows. If you ever get "Down under" I can take you out in my boat, if you bring some Tiddly Oggies with you. You've nailed that single spey - proper job ;) one small tip for you, if you're extending your line for the next cast do it on the dangle or the retrieve, not after your cast, you lose tension on the line, the fly drops and doesnt fish the cast effectively until it tightens up again, hope that makes sense 👍 tight lines. Ps ignore the Wallies, idiots and keyboard warriors

Hi Chris Really enjoy your videos. Just an observation about Theo being free to wander whilst you are fishing. In Spring and early Summer there are many ground nesting birds around riverbanks siiting on eggs or young so I always tether my dog at this time of year. She doesn't like it but I consider it very necessary.to protect vunerable wildlife.
