Traveling light means you don't have to check a bag and you're more nimble once you land at your destination. It's not for everybody, but I'm a card-carrying member of Team Carry-on!
TEAM CARRY-ON TIPS:
- Bring clothes in a compatible color story. For this trip, I wore shades of blue + white + black.
- Packing cubes for organization: tops in one; shorts & pants in another; undies & socks in another
- Wear your bulkiest clothes, jacket + shoes onto the plane
- I don’t buy souvenirs - if I can’t eat it this week, I don’t buy it.
- Limit the items you bring “just in case” - if you really need something, you can buy it along the way.
- "Just in case" should be saved for medicine + first aid items like activated charcoal (which I never travel without)!
- In places like Iceland, you can rent cold-weather gear you might never need to use at home. Same with snorkeling gear in hot places.
- If you’re bringing gifts to people, put the gifts in an IKEA duffel bag or an old suitcase and leave it there!
- If you can't resist buying things while you travel, you can upgrade to Economy Plus on the way back so you can check a bag.
