    Hi. In the late 70's early 80's I went out with a girl who lived, (and still lives), in Layton Road, which you pass at 10:02. I worked in Lewis's in town and when I stayed at my girlfriend's of a weekend I used to get the 405 'Rapidride' bus. However, it set off and went up Manor Road. From there I think it went left at the village on to Woolton Road then right on to Menlove Ave.

    You'll find the area is earmarked for Liverpol University when prices get low enough. Most of the original owners of that area are still unknown or don't want to face huge rate bills and can't do anything with them untill they rot to the ground, someone commented on it being a gated community but that only serves the elite and the University have done that in the Georgian area and Abercromby. Next area will be Lodge Lane, Kensington and Wavertree, the rot has already started, You'll find its happening in all university city's, Glasgow is a good example and the albert dock, the Elite want it, gated if anything. It might sound daft but it's happening.

    I see no point in that video other than to embarrass the City Council and those living in that little area, If you want to feel intimidated go a bit further along where people live and act suspicious, you'll soon get intimidated. I lived over the chemist on Rosebury St for a few months, I also had friends in Granby St who was born there in the 40s and 50's, It's not them them that brought the area down but the bad landords who did no repairs and would let anyone in on short term rent in aid of jumping the housing list. The area did go bad for quite sometime during the late 60's when you had gang wars and racial tensions but they wasn't the same people responsible for the riots. The area was bled dry by outsiders who put nothing back. I lived in Kelvin for best part of my married life untill it became unbearable, my landord lived in Warrington who was one of good ones. yes that photo is not Dulcie St . Who remembers Pee Wee the barber?

    • @Jeff1photo
      @Jeff1photo 12 днів тому

      Absolutely not intended to embarrass anyone who lives in the area. They see this every day and they're fed up with it. I doubt my small channel would embarrass the council. National newspapers covering the story haven't done that. So what notice would they take of me. The photo which states it is Ken Dodd in Ducie Street is not correct. That's my fault for taking a newspaper story to be accurate. The intimidation comment relates to what others have said when making their videos which I mentioned at the beginning. I film lots of places where people live, I never realised I was acting suspicious openly filming in a street.

It's so sad to see how they have gone to wreck and ruin. Hope the council step back in and do something about it, either build new flats or houses as originally planned.

    I'm in Capetown now but as a boy I played in the Cemetery. Our greatest adventure would be looking for the oldest grave stone which stood in front of Sefton Gen. were I was born in the mid sixties. It was also the first time I saw a dead body in that hospital. I thought he was a sleep but it appeared he was in an altercation and died. Remember people complaining for not covering him up as he was trollied past and my Ma covering my eyes. From the grave yard we made our way to Sefton park avoiding the Cocky Watchmen along the way. We would visit the roman ruins before visiting Old Nic's cave and all the features that Sefton Park offered. Including fishing for Stickle Backs. Before dark we would make our way back to Webster road have a quick swing on the gantry over the steps of the former cinema which had become a white goods warehouse. I remember It was called the Cameo and our gathering point for Tikes like us. Infact we nicked named ourselves the Cameo Boot Boys lol. I could go on but thankyou Jeff most appreciated.

    Just love this video. Like very much the way you talk quite a bit about St Johns Church. Most people do not even wonder about the name St Johns Gardens. Its origin I mean. The reason why the existence of the church is little discussed is because it was pulled down just before the beginnings of the picture postcard in this country. You did well to get the photos and the info on this subject. One little thing I want to mention. Henry Bohms bookshop. one of the shops by the station that had to be demolished. It relocated to a larger premises in London Road. When chatting to the bookshop owner I once asked him what his name was. The answer was not Henry Bohm. I think he said it was Mike. Henry Bohm was someone who died a long time ago. Mike used his name because it was someone he admired, and he thought it was a good name for his shop adding that you are allowed to call your shop anything you want.

    I was born in Merrion Close, the wall shown on the map was at the bottom of our garden and we used to watch horses learning to jump where you turned into the new estate. I used to play in the tip, it was mostly piles of brick from bombing in the city. I think the tower blocks must have been built in the late 60s, there was another since demolished. We later moved to Vale Road, a totally original 30s house which was used to get the interior detailing correct when Aunt Mimis house on Menlove was being renovated as it had been modernised.

I always thought it felt very old hat compared to the likes of the cinema on Edge Lane where I would usually go - obviously didnt appreciate it back then. Having recently moved into the area, I have dreams of being able to take my boy there when he is a little older as its only a short walk away.
