    I’ve picked up hiker that was asking for a ride to the Fontana Hilton. She thought it was actually a real Hilton. I hated to tell her that it was not. She had a hurt ankle so I took her to the resort.

    The first person ever to admit that birds are annoying. Your achilles problems can also come from the rubbing of your boots. I would at least try to hike in trail runners to see if it works better. If you need a firmer sole there are now also so called "approach shoes" or just low top hiking shoes. Arc'teryx has the Aerios Aura - no wobbling around like in Hokas Speedgoats and the profile is still there after 500 miles although the use the same rubber (Vibram Megagrip). Also: Some hikers use a liner bag to keep quilts and pads cleaner. It needs some time to get used to but it works and it helps also in hostels with questionable hygiene protocols. Great to see that you consider getting back on trail at some point.

      I had a bag liner and loved it but it got way too hot to keep it over summer. I started in trail runners and they were good but not great since my foot pain started in them. I think I might need to try out some other brands, thanks for the suggestions I’ll try to give them a go!

    Well shoot, at least during your rehab you got to do and see things that most of the hikers don't. You did really well and 700 miles in 60ish days is pretty damn good. Looking forward to your next vlogs and whatever comes next.

    Ok. feet problems suck. How many miles do you have on those shoes? Are you wearing a good supportive insole? Are you stretching? Are you rolling or massaging your feet? All stuff that can help. You're doing pretty darn good Raven.

      Sometimes the trail is wicked boring, you’re like, “tree, tree, mountain, tree” but other times everything cool will happen all at once, this was one of those times

  • @mars_hikes967
    @mars_hikes967 3 місяці тому

    If you walk on a road which is not typically taken by AT-hikers, people sometimes assume you are a Hobo instead of a legit hiker - this may explain why nobody wants to give you a ride. Also if you pass out on a road, there is always the risk that a car may not see you in time but you are near the driveway. SAR on the AT is top notch, trust me, they know how to evacuate individuals three times your weight but of course you should never rely on SAR and risk your health. Also on the AT there is a kind of honor system, nobody would just pass and leave you unconscious on trail. If in doubt I would stay on trail. Roadwalk s***** because it hurts your feet and often your mental state because it's boring. Glad you made it, stay safe and well hydrated.

    • @DreamstateParasite
      @DreamstateParasite 2 місяці тому

      My idea behind the road was more I won’t fall off a mountain and get further injured. I typically don’t have an issue getting rides in towns even when I’m not around the trail, this town was just a bit unique even the hostel stated that people in this town don’t pick anyone up.

    It seems like a lot of the hikers I've followed have taken the Creeper Trail instead of the 'tradiitional AT' path. Good for you for taking the scenic alternative.

    • @DreamstateParasite
      @DreamstateParasite 3 місяці тому

      There were a few people I met that took the traditional AT and talked about how awful that section was. Hard to choose going up a mountain when a beautiful river with tons of swimming holes is right there.
