SO MANY GOOD BOOKS | November-January Wrap Up
love the fact that you're on a cat valente crusade now because of deathless lmao!!
I really am 😂
I was going to recommend Crumbs if I didn't see it. It's originally a webcomic on Webtoon, and if I remember correctly, some chapters have music! 😊
Aww that's lovely!
You really need to read The Past is Red since you love Valente. I really enjoyed it. ❤
I will put it next up on the list!
Great wrap up 📚🧋
I am so glad UA-cam randomly recommended this video to me - Catherynne M. Valente is my favorite author and Horror Movie is in my top 10 best books of the year. I loved it so much I bought the signed special edition that the Broken Binding did so I now have two copies. Don't forget that the sequel to Space Opera, Space Oddity, comes out in September!
Omg that is the best news
My reading has been dominated by my Dresden Files Challenge as of late, but I'm having a good time. I'm looking forward to finishing this month so I can dive into more on my tbr. But, July was a pretty solid month. I do want to listen to Horror Movie. I've heard mix review about the story, but the audiobook has been getting a lot of nods.
Eurovision in space? Bring it on!
I'm so glad you had a great reading month!!🩷 I am currently reading deathless by catherynne M. valente, myself, AND I AM IN LOVE. I'm 50% through it and absolutely adore it! Can't wait to finish it and look through more works from this author cause..🥹💕
YESS I'm so happy you love it!!
I really need to read Final Girls. I’ve had the audio forever.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
first!
Honestly the peanut allergy rep in Teenage Slasher.... i felt so seen 😉 lolol but for real, loved it so much. One of my favourite reads of this year
I just read The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst and had to come here and recommend it to you as an incredibly cozy fantasy set in small island town ❤ There is an anti-social librarian and her assistant, a sentient spider plant 🪴 But don’t pick it up if you get easily annoyed by things that get accomplished too easily or are too convenient lol
Finished Middle of the Night. Book was 3.5 for me, but 10/10 would adopt Henry. ⛺️🔦 It was my first Sager… which one should I try next?
If you like over the top thrillers (and I mean really over the top) I loved the house across the lake but I think the general concensus is that home before dark and lock every door are the best!
@@katiemariereads that’s super helpful, thanks!
❤📚❤
Great vlog. Ive been slacking with reading because im moving with my mom into our new apartment in a couple months. So been packing decluttering much. Lol. I read at least 10 pages a day i have time for. 📚🥤
So glad you liked all of the books! I don’t read a lot of new releases, but will def pick up the new T. Kingfisher in August! I am going through her backlist in the meantime and The Jackalope Wives short story collection was really good 😊 And Howl’s Moving Castle was my most disappointing read of the year so far 😅
Noo tbh I was also a little disappointed in howls moving castle I much prefer the movie!
Get Out is amazing. The Birds is such a classic, as is The Exorcist. Pet Semetary scared me SO MUCH as a kid!
I absolutely love your nature segments in your vlogs~🤍 Also, I'm glad Dan is okay! I'm sure he did his best, but at the end of the day, it's important that he's okay! Wishing the best for you two~<3
Thank you!!
Most Disappointing: Coyote Lost and Found by Dan Gemeinhart. Book one was magic. This doesn’t compare. Best New Book: When Stars Are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed. This was a first-time read for me about two young brothers who saw their father gunned down when Somalia was invaded. This is a true story about these boys growing up in a refugee camp in Kenya. I highly recommend.
Ah tough when a sequel doesn't live up to the first book!
Okay I am so glad you liked I Was A Teenage Slasher because I DNF-ed it twice 😢 I’m also so sad about it! I got through 170 pages BUT I’m going to give the audiobook a shot per your suggestion! I’ve also never read any of SGJ’s stories and want to try My Heart Is A Chainsaw! Maybe I’ll like that more. Also, so glad Dan’s okay!!
Nooooo I definitely don't think it's for everyone. My heart is a chainsaw is amazing but the main character is very annoying so I know a lot of people dnf that one too!
I almost stopped reading I Was A Teenage Slasher a few times. It was hard for me to get into. But I kept going and ended up loving it.
@@katiemariereads good to know!!! Loved this video regardless 💖
@@MeganMarie188 this gives me hope!!
Fantastic list. I am also a huge T Kingfisher fan. I think you'd like Minimum Wage Magic by Rachel Aaron if you haven't read it yet.
Fave Summerween books: Last Tale of The Flower Bride & We Have Always Lived in The Castle 🎃🤍🌿
For cozy SF, I'll mention Nathan Lowell's Quarter Share (the first book in his Solar Clipper series). Actually, the first four books in that series are very much the sort of heartwarming, found family that I like to read about when I'm in that kind of mood. The fifth and sixth books are much more challenging to read and go to some fairly dark places, but I love the whole series. And not in this genre, but I'll also mention Jana DeLeon's Miss Fortune series, which is a cozy thriller (really) set in Sinful, Louisiana, starring a CIA assassin who is hiding from people trying to kill her, and who ends up investigating murders. Which totally doesn't sound cozy at all, but it really is a fun read. And not fun in the usual CIA assassin series kind of way.
Hmmm, as someone who has been reading cozy books for over 50 years, we use the word cozy very differently. This is not a criticism, just an observation. The majority books you recommended are classified as middle grade fantasies. Most middle grades are cozy. They are being read by a younger age group. It is usually safe to read these if you want a feel-good vibe. I LOVE MG books and have read many of these. I will be adding the rest to my TBR. Thank you! But cozy books have always been classified as adult stories over the decades. They usually take place in small villages, deal with adult characters and have murders that take place off screen. The victims are 90% bad people who no one will miss. There is often a sweet (clean) romance in these stories. Somehow, I don’t see you enjoying these overly much. 😂 They take no brain power and are good when you want a mindless read. I am really excited to check these out. I have one recommendation for you: T. Kingfisher’s Nettle and Bone. It is an amazing story. Excuse me while I track down your first video since I managed to miss that altogether.
Great video 😊 where are you from
sold on nghi vo's book tbh!!
Have you read The Goblin Emperor? It is the only cozy fantasy that I read that you have not mentioned, and it’s fantastic, as well as the novellas after it 😊
I bought an ice cream machine just so I could make chamomile and lavender ice cream 😋
Worth it!
This comes just at the right time! I‘m going on vacation next week and am preparing for which books to bring 😊 What a great list, thanks so much ❤
Ooh cozy fantasy is such a good vacation read
Better use water type super glue 😊
Thanks so much for doing a part two! I need more cozy reads in my life
Thank you for doing a part 2! I go back to your part 1 video every now and then for some good cozy fantasy to get lost in whenever I need a pick-me-up read 🤍
My friend recently convinced me to read the Delicious in Dungeon manga (also called Dungeon Meshi) and now I'm absolutely obsessed!! It's relatively short for a manga series (will have 14 volumes once the last one comes out this month) and it's debatable how "cozy" it is since it can get pretty high stakes, especially as the plot moves forward. But something about the focus on cooking (even if they are cooking monsters 😂), the humor, and the dysfunctional found family aspects make it feel very cozy fantasy to me! I'm not usually a huge manga reader so I was surprised how quickly this series sucked me in but it's very well done, I'm 7 volumes in now and excited to finish it and then watch the first season of the anime which recently came out on Netflix! 😁
Wow that sounds incredible
**Pulls up my storygraph tbr pile** Alrighty, time to yet again..add to this pile-🫡 Cozy fantasy has to be my favourite genre ever! I love the heartfelt and whimsy vibes so so much! But also.. dark-cozy fantasy is..*chefs kiss*.. we need more books in this genre i feel like! (Like: Emily wilde's encyclopaedia of faeries, Gallant, The Language of Thorns and the Wayward Children series!)
Yes 100% agree. More adult fairytale vibes please!!
There HAS to be some Black authored cozy fantasy? 🤔 Could you not find any?
hey friend! This is a huge topic in the cozy fantasy community that we need publishers to publish more diverse cozy books! Always looking for new cozies to read, a few on my TBR from black authors are Kimberly Lemming's books as well as Wildseed Witch :)
Im devastated that there will be no more Evenfall Witches books, but the author recently announced a new series ❤❤ Thank you for these lists I will come back to them again and again!
Ooo I didn't know there was a new series coming that's so exciting!
I never ate lavender ice cream, so now I’m tell curious how it taste 🤔 I added final girls to my tbr immediately! I think you definitely completed the bingo board! 🎃
Some people think it tastes like soap but I love it hahaha
I had no idea Seanan McGuire had a horror pen name! I will absolutely be checking those works out. 💗
Emily wildes encyclopedia of faeries a bit creepy at times but elements of cozy and transports you to a beautiful cold and mountainous Nordic island. A children’s series I adore is The books of Elsewhere about a girl who climbs through magical paintings in an old mansion her family moves in covered in vines. Started reading cupcakes, trinkets and other deadly magic but im not sure how scary it will get, but it is definitely cute with all the details I have to google because I have to know what a chocolate cosmos is or a painted silk jacket, the shirt with 2 crows that says attempted murder..loved it. I guess we all have different things that makes us feel cozy but anything with food, home, cold settings where the character is warm and cute elements.
Great vlog 📚🥤🎃👻
I also just got a new laptop that can handle editing & I love that I can take it to the library & have a quiet space away from the distractions of home, to be able to edit! It's awesome!!
So nice to not be tied down to a desktop!
Great vlog 📚🥤👻🎃
Funnily enough, my favorite Jeni’s flavor is the nondairy lemon bar! I’m in CA and I’ve never seen a Jenni’s ice cream shop but I’ve been buying the pints from the grocery store for a couple years now and they’re so good
Ooo I've never tried lemon bar ill have to give it a go!
I do really want to read horror movie!
Highly recommend Radiance for your next Valente pick!!
Ooo that looks amazing
You should read the Wildwood trilogy by Colin Meloy. It’s so good!
Oh, I would love to read some middle grade horror/ dark books. I absolutely love middle grade vibes and mixed in with some spooky vibes? Yes please! I need recommendations!! Also, Horror movie and Final girls has now entered by TBR mountain!🫡 And the lemon bar looks so good!! Recipe pherhaps?🤍
I loved Into the Drowning Deep so worth a read if you love their horror stories.
Katie! I need that lemon bar recipe! 😋
I will dig it up asap!
My best book for this Summerween was Slewfoot by Brom (which I believe you had mentioned is one of your favs) and my least favorite was The God and the Gumiho (but I honestly still had a really good time with it. And I LOVE lavender and rose flavored ice creams. So so good.
