Dave's POV-Laurel Falls Trail
The Laurel Falls Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s only a short drive from Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As of summer 2024, it was still open to the public. A massive renovation is planned for the trail (Date TBD), that will close the trail for up to two years. I decided to visit the Falls, and this is my Point of View as a senior citizen on what it’s like to hike to the falls on a sunny summer day. Come along with me and enjoy the beauty of this natural wonder.

The "Big Boy" passing through East Texas
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
A few years ago the "Big Boy" train, which is the Union Pacific 4014, went through East Texas on a Saturday. I grabbed the company drone and my trusty GoPro7 and ran out to fight the huge crowds gathered to see the train. At 600 tons and 132 feet long, it is a sigh to see as it flies by blasting away with it's whistle!
Dave's POV Amtrak Texas Eagle
Переглядів 11 тис.2 роки тому
The Texas Eagle is Amtrak's longest overnight train with three nights on the train if you take it was Chicago all the way to Los Angles or vice versa. I recently took the train from Longview, in East Texas, to Chicago and slept in coach over one night, my first overnight train trip. This is my Point-Of-View, as a senior citizen, on what it's like to sleep in a seat and my overall impression of ...
Caddo Lake, Texas Boat Tour

After living in East Texas for over 10 years, I finally got to go on a boat tour of the Caddo Lake and Bayou areas. It was great! Such a beautiful and serene place. I was invited to go with some friends and there were others on Captain Ron's Swamp Tour. We all had a blast! Here's a little video from our 90 minute tour.

Mavic "Jib" simulation shot

This is a shot we tried in a school to simulate a jib down move from very high up, farther than our Jib arm would reach. Done in two parts to give an option in editing...part 1 from above the ceiling half way down, then from half way to about eye level. We used our DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

Thank you and thanks for watching!
is it have plastic or rubber wheels?
Very hard rubber.
Really enjoyed your video! And by the way you are a handsome man! ❤
Great video! Going to buy your add on clamp and cheese plate options! I've been using super clamps but they are not the best solution. -Adam
What is D.I.T?
Digital Imaging Technician. In Hollywood, this is the guy or gal who records everything shot in the production on to hard drives, then does a quick edit of the best takes, following the storyboard, to show the director and clients if it's a commercial shoot. The DIT's I've met typically have a powerful Apple laptop on a cart like this Krane along with a large capacity SSD array and a couple of monitors. They have to be fast at what they do. I've seen directors turn around immediately after a take and say, "Let me see that last take," and he expects to see it right away.
@@davepov yikes. Sounds like a fun job. I've been using a tool (on my mac) called Lossless Cut. It's perfect for quickly trimming things up - without recompressing. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Sounds like an extreme (e)sport.
Nice to see an alternative to the more expensive carts. The length concerns me, as I wonder if it's too long for some (most?) elevators. I have a cheap Rock N Roller R12 cart. It extends up to 52", and find it is often a tight squeeze on many elevators. I can easily reduce the length, but that's not an option with the Krane cart, so I wish the total length was shorter and offered a bit more width.
Yes, I did find it tight in some elevators. I mostly when in at a diagonal and no one else could fit in the elevator but me. Luckily I never ran into a really small elevator. Had that happened I probably would have taken the top shelves off and folded the cart into an "L" shape when put one top shelf back on. I then would probably have had to make more than one trip from my truck to get all the equipment I needed for a shoot. Back when I used a Magliner cart (in another job), I found many elevators I couldn't fit into because that was a huge cart.
I bought this cart because I find Inovativ cart too expensive. But after using for 2 years I sold it and got myself an Inovativ voyager evo and never looked back. There is simply no comparison as Inovativ blow this AMG 750 out of the water for video production. There are so much vibration when travelling on flat tarmac from AMG750, the wheels are simply not good enough. In addition it does not fold as flat at Inovativ cart when travelling in car.
I agree with you. Both Inovativ and Magliners are kick-ass carts that can serve the needs of anyone in video/film production. We we bought our Krane cart, it was purely a financial decision, it was all the boss was willing to spend. So, good for you and best wishes for a great year of production for you in 2024!
Thanks Dave, great POV review. I have the base offroad 750, so this was very helpful in understanding the additional elements you've incorporated.
Thank you for watching.
Was just looking for some reviews for this cart and noticed that this was done by Encore Multimedia. I interned there about (gulp) 20 years ago when Dean was running things. Very nice to see Encore is doing well. Thanks for a useful review too!
Dean retired two years ago and sold the company to a guy in Dallas. He's a nice guy and a good boss. Since I did this video, I retired and for the first time since the company was created in the 1990's, there is no longer a full time videographer at Encore. They now hire freelancers to shoot and edit video. All the great equipment I bought over the last 5 years or so, now just sits gathering dust.
@@davepov I’ve been curious as to why I never see Encore with a video crew these days at events I’m filming. Honestly it’s been a benefit for my business, but now this makes sense! I appreciate the video! I’ve been going back and forth on so many different carts to replace my current setup and this was by far the best breakdown I’ve found so far.
@@baldwinvp I retired and moved to Tennessee and they did not replace me at Encore. In fact, they are looking for freelance DP's to shoot for them.
@@davepov I’ll have to give them a shout! I hope you are enjoying retirement and Tennessee! I love the weather and scenery out there.
I live in Longview, Texas!
I have it !! Life safer.. a bit heavy, but necessary. So robust. I load crazy amount of equipment while traveling around the world 😊🙌
It is a bit heavy but it will last a long time. We use our regularly and we are tough on it but it's held up perfectly. Good luck. Enjoy it.
Great video. Your earned a subscriber
New Subscriber here --- Great job, Dave. I am looking forward to seeing where you travel next.
Thanks for the coach trip report. I would prefer a door with a lock on it. BUT the most important thing you didn't say was PRICE. How much for all this coaching about?
I get it. I was a bit worried about possible theft while I was asleep. But once the lights were dimmed, most people went to sleep and because I woke up several times during the night, I noticed no one stirred except when a few people got on or off at their stops. It's just my POV but I perceived it was a very different crowd that rode the train compared to those who fly. Maybe it's the slower pace. People seem more polite and easy going. Price, yes. It varies so much depending on how far ahead you book your trip. I paid $178 for a roundtrip ticket.
big baloon
Dave, I REALLY enjoyed your style in your Amtrak video (well, also on the other's I have now watched). In the past year, I have been traveling by rail and starting to make my own train videos - I would love to chat with you (email, text, whatever) about tips, etc., as I begin to make more. PS - the Texas Eagles is on the top of my list since I reside in St. Louis and have taken many other routes, but not yet the Texas Eagle.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words. I've watched many videos people have put on UA-cam about trips they've taken on trains. I like the different points of view from young and old train riders. I love passenger rail and I hope it continues to improve in the USA and expand! The Texas Eagle is a fascinating train. It's somewhat ordinary until it gets to San Antonio, TX, then it adds food cooked on the train and an observation car. It becomes much longer as it zooms through the southwest. A trip on the TE from St. Louis to LA would be a great adventure. You are welcome to email me. Look me up on LinkedIn.
Everyone living on the Texas Eagle route should visit San Antonio and Chicago at least once. St. Louis, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and El Paso are other cities to explore. I find small towns worthwhile, Springfield has a few Lincoln historical sites to visit, and there is some good fishing holes to be found at all of the stations in the Ozarks of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas...
AMAZING VIDEO! LOVE FROM ISRAEL
Thank you. Shalom!

Okay Dave time to get a roomette and give us the update.
You bet!
Nicely Done. Looking forward to more.
Can roomettes fit two people
Yes and it's comfortable for sleeping since all Amtrak sleeping accommodations are bunk beds but it is tight when you're both sitting in the roomette.
Can you bring Raman noodles on board do they have hot water in the cafe car
That is a good question. Yes, you can bring pre-package noodles with you but will they offer you hot water from the cafe car? I honestly don't know. There is nothing specifically about that on the Amtrak web site. On an Amtrak discussion site on the web (not affiliated with Amtrak) the answer seems to be, yes, you can ask an attendant in the Cafe car for a cup of hot water and he/she will give it to you. Sorry, that's the closest to answer I could find. I was surprised to find you can bring your own alcoholic beverages on board but they can only be consumed in a room or roomette.
hello done the californa zephyer twice in coach was ok but i h ated sittin next topeople
I know what you mean. I have to admit, I was praying no one would sit next to me so I could stretch out if need be and I did during the night, just to change sleeping positions. In Illinois the train got filled so I had a "guest" next to me. He was a little strange but pleasant enough and I only rode with him for about two hours.
Looks amazing
Hi! I am seriously interested in taking the amtrak from chicago- Seattle- I am considering a roomette- even though its more expensive- two overnights in coach- i think would be taxing
Yes, two nights in coach would be tough. Plus, you get no actual service and cannot eat in the dining car. Remember, meals are included, even with a roomette. Sure, it's a fair amount more but worth it, I believe. Thanks for watching.
You’ll be much happier in the Roomette and you ticket includes all meals.
Nice video, I have done couch on Amtrak 3 or 4 times, on the Empire Builder from Portland, Or. To Milwaukee, Wi.. that is 2 nights on the train. I was at the time in my 70s. I fond sleeping not to bad, about 6-7 hours. I plan another trip this spring now am in my 80s. I am thinking of a roomete.
You are a brave man sleeping in a seat at your age! :-)
@@davepov Must be that on a long train trip one might take a nap almost any time,
@@jamesayers4926 True that.
Good job Dave! Looking forward to more of your train vids!
Enjoyed your trip report, I like that you did it in coach instead of a sleeper.
Overnight train in coach, as a senior is not, I repeat, is not the best ride! No matter what anyone, I repeat, anyone says, is not the best ! Please trust me. Nothing personal I like the train, but not the best.
No argument from me. The older you are (over 70) the tougher it is but I didn't know for sure until I tried it...never again...roomette next time or a full room! Thanks for watching.
@@davepov If you are in no hurry, I buy the 30 day Amtrak Rail Pass for coach seats for around $450 good for ten different trains. I research the schedule and plan to layover for a day or two in any city or town on all of the ten trains, I can sleep in a coach seat for one night, but not for two straight nights without a good night's layover in a bed somewhere. Don't just see America riding Amtrak, but also experience America riding Amtrak. Layovers for Amtrak is like a port of call with a cruise ship. Every city has a tourist trap and museums to visit, and every town has a local fishing hole and a nice B&B near the Amtrak station... Ten long train trips for the price of one or two is a great bargain although you will be riding in coach... Instead of buying expensive Amtrak cafe food, bring some food onboard the train. An apple, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a devil ham or potted meat sandwich, a few boiled eggs, a jar of dry roasted peanuts, anything that will keep for a day or two without requiring refrigeration...
@@ronclark9724 All good ideas! I did bring some food on the train but since I hadn't ridden an Amtrak in decades, I thought I'd try the food. Certainly the rail pass is a good idea. If I could talk my wife into it, I'd do it!

I'm a mobile DJ who's looking at this cart. I like your enthusiasm and explanations. BTW, no one else gave the dimensions, or showed themselves walking through a door. That was convincing! Keep it up sir :)
Kenny, I think this cart might work very well for you. You could place pretty good sized, powered speaks on the bottom shelf and other equipment on the top and, with hooks, hang speaker stands on both sides. It folds up so well it should all fit in your vehicle without problems. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
Great video and tips! Very educational!
Your review on the GoPro website made me look this up. How long did it take your PC to process this? I definitely want to get one of these cameras.
Same, looks awesome
We use am iMac with 64GB of RAM and Adobe Premiere Pro CC for editing with super fast hard drives in an Areca dock with USB-C connection. Editing went fine but rendering when it was done took hours. The camera is a breeze to set up and use...worked great!
nice footage! gopro fusion?
Yes, he filmed that on the GoPro Fusion. I came here from his review on the GoPro website about it. Here is the link if you wan to read it. (It is the review from 8-20-18) shop.gopro.com/cameras/fusion/CHDHZ-103.html#
Yes, on an heavy duty Avenger arm both clamped and tied (with rope) to the gondola. I also had a power brick gaff taped on to the arm and connected to the GoPro's USB port, to make sure I had enough battery power to run through the entire race, about one hour.
