What’s a beef? I thought that animal was called a cow.
Cattle raised for human consumption are called beef cattle. Within the American beef cattle industry, the older term beef (plural beeves) is still used to refer to an animal of either sex.
@@showaltersmeats4377 well now I know :) I know beef is what we call the meat from a cow. Like venison is the meet from a deer. But I never heard anyone refer to a deer as a venison.
Life was good in the 60s and 70s in cattle country.

I watch UA-cam videos where they're trapping feral hogs. Is there anything significantly different in the pork meat and yield of domestic vs. feral?
I understand that "1.25 is considered a Porterhouse but I disagree. I would consider that a T-bone steak. Just my personal preference. If you consider that only 4-5 Porterhouse come from a whole cow then we need to consider that at least each tenderloin should measure "1.50- "1.75 each. The perfect Porterhouse should have at least "2 of tenderloin. I have traveled all around the world and have been to some amazing Steakhouses with dry aged beef. But that's just my opinion. Thank you for the video!

I bought half of a grass fed, grass finished beef (nose to tail) from Showalter’s earlier this summer. I’m cooking beef ribs right now! I ordered a forest raised hog (nose to tail) that should be ready in early December. The estimated price is $750 out the door, but that’s going to depend on the final weight. When I lived in Northeast Ohio, my pasture raised hog came in a half hog bundle and I got the parts that were picked out for me at $495. The people at Showalter’s Meats are so friendly and don’t think you’re going to leave there hungry. They have samples waiting for you. I have to agree with the comments about the skin on pork belly. It’s much more common in other cultures and I really enjoyed it when visiting Australia.
I have 400 pound hogs 2 that is male and female
When I was younger, I went to work on a farm for a couple of months. One day, as I was feeding (but mostly playing with a pig), the owner showed up and said _"Looks like you made a new friend! He usually never lets anyone touch him. Looks like he trusts you for some reason. Next week, when we'll go to_ (he said the name of a place but I had no idea where or what that place was) _you're coming with us."_ The next week, I realised that the place we went to was a slaughterhouse. I got to eat some of my "friend" some time later and it's not like I got traumatised or anything but I when I think about it, I feel a little stupid and realise how naive I was back then, thinking we were going to a playground or...I have no idea what I was thinking!

I can't believe y'all wasted that leaf fat in sausage. That's the best lard for making pie crust. The king of fats.
I preferred the pork we used to have which had a lot more fat on it. We used to drain off all the fat after cooking into a bowl, let it cool and have dripping spread on a bit of toast the day after.

I toatally got screwed. Nobody go to "Archers Meat Market" in fishers indiana. We took a 312 lb "great white" hog , to them and didnt get anything close to this back.
