    I can't tell you how glad my old eyes are to see the "Famed Aviatrix" alive and kicking! I remember well the ride I took with you and Dr. Dom in your Bonanza before you moved "way down Texas way". Looking over the restored XNQ-1 and changing the diaper. Your homemade root-beer and playing "Dogfight" in your living room. Your dogs Rudder and Camber. Catching fireflies on your Flying Farmer runway. The Rocket Launcher. Kenny Crouthammel dropping the windsock. The ride I took in the old MG. "Turn your hat around backwards. There, you look like Lincoln Beachey." Dominic told me. All the time we spent in our garage while my Dad built his Cassutt III. I still have the wing rib with one backwards gusset Dad gave me. 1,000 treasured airplane memories. I was a MUCH younger child in those days. I am the "Young Whipper-snapper" to Doctor Dominic's "Old Geezer". I was saddened in way I cain't explain here to hear of his passing while flying one of his favored " Old Box-Kites". I miss his sense of fun, skill, kindness and funny laugh even today, as I am certain you do too. I am overjoyed to see your face and hear your voice again!

    It is exceptionally unfortunate that this wonderful monument, and indeed the town of Grindavík, may very well be in the path of the present eruption in Iceland that is located at the very mountain, Fagradalsfjall, where the crash happened in 1943. If at all possible, I would hope that someone could return to that site and retrieve any pieces that may be left, before the area is covered in lava. I can't imagine the loss of that monument after all the effort that went into bringing it about. The residents of Grindavík may have to evacuate, and I hope the monument can be brought to a safe place right along with them.

      I followed the recent eruption in Iceland from it’s first hint of rising lava to the present. I’m grateful for all the shots of the valley’s appearance before it was basically covered by meters of lava.

    My father told me about the tragic accident and Mr. Frank Andrews many years ago. The story of the B-24 Hot Stuff and its crew I did not know. Thanks for sharing, it is very interesting. It so happens, than a volcanic eruption started in Fagradalsfjall two weeks ago (March 19th, 2021), a few hundred meters from the crash site. This has drawn allot of attention the area and the fate of Hot Stuff.

    Fascinating video! A couple of questions: Where are you finding potential new pilots? Do you perform actual engine-out routines, or do you throttle back the "bad" engine.

    • @allenbenzing2568
      @allenbenzing2568 4 роки тому

      Peter - Thank you for your comment. Potential new pilots have varied backgrounds, but the most helpful experience comes from those who have a structured background, crew coordination, larger aircraft and tailwheel experience. Of course other warbird experience, C-45, C-47 or T-6 is very useful - but rare! Our "engine-out" scenarios are at lower power settings to simulate 'feather', while keeping the maneuver safe.

      @@allenbenzing2568 Tnx for your response. I flew on FiFi on June 11, 2016 when she was visiting Nashua, NH. It was a thrilling experience and well worth the $$ (flight observer seat). Jenna - Thanks for the comment. I had only heard 'rumors' that Memphis Belle had not been the 1st do fly 25 missions, so was intrigued to find the Before the Belle book. And of course I was skeptical of how well they would make their case - but, it didn't take long to see the extensive research and solid story of this crew. 31 Missions! Tough Duty, so I have tremendous respect for all who flew combat missions.

    Great Video! Sad to learn that two months after filming the scene where the B-29 was getting it's nose art, she was lost. On February 10, 1945 in Gunma Prefecture, the B-29 "Slick's Chicks" was rammed by a Japanese fighter. Parts of hit the B-29 "Deaner Boy" , resulting in both aircraft crashing. All 23 crew members were killed. "fromtheireyes.weebly.com/the-lessons/slicks-chicks-the-overview-of-a-b-29"

    This is an excellent webinar. Viewing it is time well spent. I have been a “Friend of Fifi” and in 2015 had the opportunity to take a flight out of PNE (Northeast Philadelphia). I had ground toured her many years prior at this same airport when I thought, “I’ll take a flight next time.” Well, that next time turned out to be 20+ years before she returned, so I was not about to miss it again. As an Air Force veteran and WW2 air power enthusiast flying Fifi is an experience I cherish. I learned so much from this webinar, and having flown in the aircraft I now know considerably more about what I’d experienced during my flight. Thank you for creating this video, and....HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY, FIFI 🎂👍👍. Oh, and if you learn she’s coming near your town, once the tour can resume, hopefully in 2021, get yourself signed up to fly on her. You’ll never forget it!
