Bubba's Backyard Ultra 2024 | How Far Can I Go?
This is the sixth edition of Bubba's and my fourth time running it. I was happy to have company on this one - my brother Jesse joined me and Rob returned as well. Last year I managed 12 laps on a wet, muddy course that led to my knee issues. With only five months of running since then I wasn't sure how this year would go. But as the day approached I was excited to find out!

Pretty awesome to see the Northern Lights for the first time five minutes from my house at Ninigret Park. For a while they were visible with the naked eye. The quality is not great because I didn't know what I was doing. @GediAstro is probably shaking his head in disgust. I was just happy to be there!
First Autumn Hike in Mountains

This was my sixth ascent of Mt. Tecumseh and about as much as my legs could handle the day after my Semi-Pemi. No views at the top but the misty hiking was pleasant in its own ways. Brought the Hover X1 on this weekend's long run over on the Connecticut/Rhode Island border. This is a good encapsulation of the terrain we have in southern New England. beautiful out there~BREATH and let it flow on by. love you
I gotta say, I look forward to you putting yourself through this for my entertainment 😂
I do these things so you don't have to!
@@RhodySethand now I finished the video, awesome job!! New PB! That’s crazy!! 🤯
Great Job! Hope I can join you next year! When is the signup ?
January 1st at 9 AM: ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=120030 But...I think I'll be taking a year off from Bubba's. I think I'm finally backyard ultra'd out. (maybe one more Last Human Standing though...)
@@RhodySeth okay I’ll put that on my calendar- I’ll see you at the last human standing!
Awesome time-lapse Seth! The colours are so vivid, and the way it moves. Incredible that this was round the corner from your house.
Thanks! Definitely cool to see and it worked having Ninigret Park so close - it's recognized as a Dark Sky site on the Eastern Seaboard.
@@RhodySeth Ahh so you live near perfect conditions, really is magical!
Great effort out there! I can’t imagine putting out that many miles on a repeating loop!
I avoided loop courses for a long time because the idea of going round and round sounded dreadful. But having other people out there sharing in the madness makes all the difference.
Nice job!!
Thanks!
Frikken Awesome...showed everyone at work this...I work in Providence...none of us saw it...but we saw your video and we're all blown away! Thank u
Thanks so much - I hope they come around again to give you a chance.
Congrats Seth! Very impressive
Thanks much!
Congrats on a new PR at Bubbas!
Thanks John!
Way to crush it Seth!
Thank you!
Incredible capture! 😃
Wild to be able to see the lights with the naked eye for a little while here in Rhode Island. Incredible stuff!
Well, that is some amazing colours to "enjoy" the run! I do hope that everyone loves Bubba...but probably not after a few laps! lol How great is that to have your mom along...mom's are always such great supporters!! Awesome!! You did yourself good on this one for sure!! Time for a well deserved rest up with that knee...and it seems to have held up well for you too! Way to go!!
Thanks Bruce, it was a hard but great day (and night)!
Congrats, Seth! Awesome video and monster effort on the course!
Thanks Greg, psyched with how it went!
Very impressive run Seth. Thank you for sharing 😊Wishing you a great weekend 😊
Thanks, you too!
Wow. Pretty amazing. I can’t even imagine being like, yea sign me up 😅 yall are my heroes!
It's very impressive how long so many people went. I'm happy with my 18 laps but the winner went 43!
Congrats Seth! Very impressive - that is not only a lot of miles but also a long time to be on your feet pumping out the miles. Looks like a very fun event.
Definitely. Time on Feet is often what I think about in training. For long runs I don't worry about miles as much as how much time I'm spending on my feet.
So awsome! The banana man will haunt my dreams...
Nice job Rob on your race and crewing Seth!
Banana Man is our friend - pushing us ever onwards.
This is a beautiful capture of the northern lights.
Thank you! Really happy to have experienced it!
Seeing the aurora borealis at such a low latitude is a rare and incredible experience! So Beautiful!! 😍
It was my first time! I could see it with the naked eye for a few minutes. Now I gotta get to Iceland!
Nice capture. Was crazy lights here too yesterday 😊
I bet yours were spectacular!
Beautiful! 🤩
It was really cool to see!
You really got them good! Fantastic!!
EVERYBODY UNLEASH THEIR NORTHERN LIGHT PICKS AT THE SAME TIME!
@@RhodySeth Has been all over FB for sure! lol
Stunning Seth 😮👌🏻
Yes, very happy to have gotten a chance to see it.
Thanks for the shout out Seth! Enjoyed catching up on your adventures. Truly impressive doing this hike day after the semi presi 👏
Holy hell, you've gone through a marathon session of my videos. Lol, guess you're caught up.
Nice update! Sure would help if I had something like that.
Yeah the perfect kind of drone for long hikes since it's so portable.
Love those bridges! Nice video!
They serve us until they no longer can.
Sounds like a tough recovery time but you’re still crushing miles!
It's funny how I can run 63 miles and be fine and them I'm walking down a small hill in town and suddenly it feels all twingy. Bodies are weird.
That camera is pretty impressive!
It is definitely a cool piece of technology. They just released new versions that are even better. It's a brave new world.
That’s way too many people for me - I’ll stick to the mountains 😂
Yeah, normally I don't do 80° races on pavement but occasionally I'll make an exception.
That’s quite the long day! Bravo 👏 Much nicer weather than last time and no deadly trees 😂
I was going to look for that old dead tree but they move the caretaker's tent there and I didn't want to look like I was snoopin' around, haha.
Nice trip. Don’t like those platforms and no fun in the rain on those. Last time you two were in that area I believe there was some bribery with candy 😂
That tent was heavy as hell - definitely not like your light jobbies. Probably why I don't mind it on the platforms. But yeah, a good trip with Ez!
Definitely bear scat! With all those berries got to be some 😁
Someone just got a great shot of a bear clinging to a tree only a couple miles from here. And bobcats are being seen all over. Pretty cool how the wildlife has been returning here.
Beautiful hike! Bonus Beaver Brook was mostly dry.
Yeah I can see that trail being no fun to descend in wetter conditions.
Some great video edits in this one.
Thanks! It was a fun one to make.
Those events look like fun - if only I was a runner.
Actually at Bubba's this past weekend they were talking about how well thru-hikers do at these events. They're just as much walking as running and some people basically just power hike.
@@RhodySeth Power hike - now that I could do! Maybe one day.
I've also had issues with my folding poles. I've had two pairs fail on me, the most recent one the locking mechanism also broke. I'm trying the simpler flick-lock style next.
Yeah I've gone through two pairs of those folding poles. One of each pair has broken on me. The good news is that the remaining two make up a working pair!
Zombies 😂
Ultrarunning is a dangerous business!
Looks like you had a nice time. I’ve spent a descent amount of time in Red Rock and areas outside of it - some good mountain biking out that way too. Nice you got around the strip too.
Yeah, beautiful country. I wish I had more time to check it out. Definitely some incredible natural features around Sin City.
Im not sure i follow you on how two 40°F underquilts get you down to 10°F so i need this explained to me as im about to start trying it this year
Here’s a good article that breaks it down: support.enlightenedequipment.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002770588-How-to-layer-quilts-for-sub-zero-camping
Lovely trail man, this hike looks and feels great!
Thanks much!
Damn dude…hiked 30+ miles then do this…😂 insane! And I remember that part where it dropped down, I was so confused lol
I appreciate it!
I overnighted on Carrigain this weekend and really wanted to drive to Tecumseh after getting back to my car and try tagging another peak before heading back to RI but I had to meet a car rental return time 😭
Damn, too bad you couldn’t sneak it in!
If I hiked 30 miles, there would be no moving me anywhere, not even Tecumseh. 😂 Good job!
Haha, thanks! It’s a good sort of active recovery. 😂
Go, Seth, Go!
For as long as I can!
You are a toad magnet aren't you? No doubt that is a steep final push up Tecumseh. I have had the pleasure myself. Looks like you had a great time in the Whites. It never gets old!
I guess it's my luck to have lots of toads but nary a red newt. I shall accept my fortune!
A more challenging trail for sure...but it looks like it was rather relaxing...at least for watching! Safe travels.
It was a nice relaxing hike...a nice send-off for the weekend.
Brilliant hike Seth and the day after a big day in the mountains 🏔️!oh boi you like it hardcore mate 🏔️👌🏻👍🤠 ATB Simon
I must push on while I can!
@@RhodySeth yes your very right Seth (you and me both 🙏🏼)
Man that trail looked super tough 🙂 so cool with the clouds passing through!
It was a good trail. Not too tough - still couldn't believe that lady was running up it though. Yeesh!
@@RhodySeth yeah that was impressive 😅
Nice video! I'm loving the drone shots. Indeed a great way to appreciate those shorter routes is to do them after a big day.
Thanks - yeah the X1 worked well on this one. Was hoping to fly my other drone at the top but the weather didn't cooperate.
Nice hike Seth. Wishing you a fantastic upcoming weekend. Take care 😊
You as well. Enjoy your days.
