BestRest came up with a solution and we can provide you with replacement fuel filters and fuel lines for a fraction of the cost. This video patiently explains the process, preparing you so you can d...
So, after all of this doesn't work and the either trick doesn't either because today's staring fluid, though is says it has either and a lot of other stuff too, will only do a slow burn. So what do you do then? Get a clamp on air chuck at Harbor Freight, and some Slime from Wall Mart. Put the Slime all the way around both beads and some inside the tire, then inflate. If you want to bounce the tire as it fills, now you can, or hit the tire with a hammer if you like, but mine sealed Easily with the Slime. Now I have a bunch of straps I might never use again.
What should I do after all of that doesn't work? I took it to a car tire shop, and they said they could not touch a motorcycle wheel for liability reasons. This nation needs tort reform. I like the old America better.
Big thank you to David and Steve for exploring and documenting this route. Rode it last month on my R1200GSA and it was very enjoyable. Only a couple short challenging sections, but mostly nice gravel roads. Big bike friendly.
thank you 2005 k1200s. great info.
Thank you very much for this instruction. I also have a Sertao. The idea where to install the oiler is very, very helpfully to me! I already installed the oiler on a Honda NT 1100. But there the mirror holder is a good position. At the BMW this is not possible. So I am very thankful for your idea in the case of the Sertao. And another thing made me smile: Your "calibrated hands" 🙂
Thank you. Very informative video... and timely. I'm about to delve into my 2008 GSA again at 220,000 km. Question: Have you ever cut open one of these filters to see what the filter medium actually is? Paper? Ceramic?
interesting test... how do we know for sure that the bypass didn't open and allow unfiltered oil/slurry into the plate on any of the tests? if the bypass opened at any time for even a split second contaminants would be allowed to bypass the filter.. (other than the bypass screens in the couple that had them).. i'm not sure how much pressure the syringe made.. but if some of these bypass valves upen as low as 2psi.. it would seem that many, if not all, might be opened easily by very low pressure on the plunger.. like i said,i'm not sure.. but it seems like you could overpower at least some of the bypass springs easily.. which i guess shows in the testing.. the best is the best regardless of if it opens or not..
That happend to me, a partial bead on one side. As soon as I put it on the bike and rode 100' the tire unbeaded on that side and the tire deflated.
I'll have to study how to properly thread the ratchet so it will release afterwards. I've had to cut many straps out of frustration because they wouldn't release and then throw them away.
I hate fooling with ratchet straps, don't ever thread them right and they won't release afterwards so I usually end up cutting them free and throwing them away. I won't use lighter fluid and light the rubber on fire to heat up the bead either.
So how can one tell if the bolt is bent if you are going to buy a used F8gs?
@@g0bi you can't unless you take it out
Alright, thank you for a quick response! @@bestrestproducts648
Hello, many thanks for sharing your experience, you use the tape 3M 4411, the thicker reference 3M 4412 is not better ?
@@mono6906 I don't know.
Wow nice work But the fuel controller same I'm in Ghana how can I get it or how much it cost pls
This is useless. Bypass valve opening pressure is not measured. Dislike and move on.
I have never owned (until now) a BMG GS, but as a mechanical enthusiast I carefully watched your video, thanks
Hi David, an exhaustive and good video about the conversion process. I have a question: after the whole process of sealing the rim, is it mandatory to mount a tubeless tire on the rim? Or can you use a "normal" tire only without the inner tube?
Well, personally, I don't worry about it. I mount tires regardless of their designation. The whole process is coloring outside the lines of what's "technically proper", but it still works.
nicely explained Thank you very much.
I was always led to believe it was unsafe to convert a tubed wheel to tubeless due to there not being a safety bead lock but what do I know
A great video, showing all the handy things you need to know when cleaning the (non replaceable) fuel filter in an r1200gs. It's easy to watch and full of useful 'does ' and 'do nots' to make the job much easier and useful details of how the whole system works - thanks! :)
Very creative idea! Thanks.
Hi there, superb video! One question, can the spokes still be adjusted after the tubeless conversation has been done? Thanks, John.
Are you offering for sale, a rebuild fuel pump kit for a 2009 R1200RT?
I never did sell any fuel pump systems. Check out Quantum Fuel Systems. They may have what you need... or try Beemer Boneyard
You didn't show the sock being removed and mine won't let go. Makes me wonder if there's something I'm missing.
Omg you demonstrated simplicity with the right angle valve chuck thank you!
Several great sealants (3M, Flex Seal, etc.) are avail;abnle in caulking tubes for easier application!
Thanks for the tutorial. I am wondering if you could tell us which is the reference of the 8 mm valve stems. Cheers.
Your video solved the mystery of removing the oem pump from the housing of my 07RT. After banging my head against the wall for several hours, and about to surrender to ordering an oem pump, I found your video. The video showed the trick of carefully nudging the filter base from the pump housing and saved the day (and my wallet). Thank you so very much.
Legendary video! Thank you for the effort! With all this knowledge mounting of any tire in the field should be piece of cake now. Removal of the Motoz Tractionator Adventure will be probably a little bit more difficult as it wouldn't be easy to fit the zip ties in. But in the worst case it could be substituted by little wooden or plastic blocks / spacers which would fit in between the tire bead and the rim, forcing the tire to the center of the rim.
i know someone who did this with a can of beer in junior high school. unfortunately he got sent home for being drunk and smelling like a beer factory.
Congratulations for the video, very explanatory and detailed. 33:28 I would like to know what product you used to rinse the filter Thank you
Fuel injector cleaner. Any brand will work
@@HidalgoRides thank you very much
Thanks David, very informative and helpful video. I'm having difficulty with getting the 1st bead over! Hopefully your method works for me
Bought it, spent 4 hours trying to figure out how to use it and threw it in the bin.
The kit included detailed instructions, and the video clearly showed how to set it up and use it. Thousands of riders have used it successfully. I'm sorry you couldn't figure it out.
I appreciate the knowledge you have provided myself with solutions to repairing a tire that’s not only flat but has come off the wheel. This has happened to me recently and although I repaired the tire I lacked the knowledge to reset the bead. Most of us have a ratchet set but don’t have the nylon sleeve needed to set the bead. I would gladly purchase the sleeves at a reasonable price. Thanks for your advice and expertise.
Nice video. So in conclution, the Guglatech filters are the worst?
My conclusion is the BMW OEM paper filter is hard to beat, but it can not be cleaned and must be replaced. Guglatech was on par with the BMW paper filter, and when dirty the Guglatech can be cleaned and reused. . Other oiled foam filters didn't perform as well as the BMW or Guglatech.
So glad I watched this. Installed a 19inch front tyre manually with difficulty and it was a bit squashed at the last point not making any beed seal. After trying various tricks like taping up the gap and using a circumferencial rachet strap I thought I was going to have to remove it. Anyway I essentialy applied your techneque but used liquid brake cleaner, injected into the valve head (inner valve out) and some around the rim to wick it in. It lit up, but nothing, I gently kicked it and it popped onto the rim. So happy!
This is by far the very best vid on using zip ties to mount motorcycle tires. I have done it this way about 8 times now on street bike alloy wheels - huge fat rear 180/55's as well as 120/70 fronts - and saved $60 a pop which is what the local m/c shops are charging. Yesterday I had was mounting a 180/55-17 on a BMW rear alloy wheel. I forgot the golden rules shown here by BestRest and struggling, sweating, cursing finally gave up. I came inside and re-watched this video - went out this morning with a fresh mind-set and boom! Had that tired mounted within 5 minutes - using only 3 zip ties exactly as shown here. Not only does this gentleman show HOW but also explains the WHY - which once you understand the mechanics/physics it all comes together. I very seldom take the time to write comments here but had to chime in on this one! Secrets: Use the bead buddy or something to secure the bead on one side; plenty of lube inside and out; if its not going on fairly easily stop, rest, reconsider and double check.
Thank you for posting video. Before is spend $ and time a few questions to anyone who has done this; 1. does it work? 2. How much time/miles do you have on it? 3. Issues/problems that you ran into? 4. Would you consider adding a sealant in addition, as MTB riders do. Thinking Sahara moto tire sealant 5. Thanks!
Yes it works. Over 5 years on my bike, 50k miles. No problems, no issues. No reason for any sealant. Over 1/4 million views on this video, tens of thousands of riders have converted, I haven't heard of any failures or issues.
I would expect that since the gugaltech and Hiflow plugged up, that there would be less air carrying dust. Thats the result that is shown here. Since the Uni and K&N are flowing more air that carries dust, of course the secondary filter is going to see more dust, it’s also seeing more oxygen too.
I use Harbor Freight 24" zip ties. Motoz Tractionator ADV on my r1200GSAW. I use 8 zip ties (they're DIRT cheap) and squeeze the whole tire. Both beads joined together all around. WD40 on the rim and tire bead, & the tire pops on super easy. This looks way more complicated. Notice how easy the first bead slides over the rim when mounted conventionally? Simply attach the second bead to the first and it follows right over. Been doing this for years now.
Hi mate are you still happy with it, any leak?
More than 5 years of hard use, still working great, no issues. This video has been viewed more than 250,000 times. Tens of thousands have done the conversion, not a single report of failure.
@@HidalgoRides Thanks mate.

Couldn’t you just use flexseal?
Ty for the Video. I had massive Problem so put on my k60 Scout on my XT 660r,nothing worked until i found this Video. Ty
Thank you sir for going through all the trouble to make that video
thanks for the vidéo
Great work. Sincere and to the point.
The things stubborn old men will do before admitting a 250 makes more sense
LOL. Yes a 250 makes sense on the trail, but for longer range adventure rides the 250 doesn't cut it. And even if you have a 250, hauling it back onto the trail can be .... problematic. I also ride a KTM 450EXC and I've used the MRS kit to haul the bike up an embankment that would be impossible even with 3-4 other guys helping out.
Excellent tutorial, in many countries it is difficult to get that specific adhesive, but there is one that is common in all countries, and it is the windshield adhesive. I work as an auto body technician and I have verified the strong adhesion and how difficult it is to remove this adhesive. It is a polyurethane based glue and resists bending and flexing as the windshield is a structural part of a car, and withstands strong stresses in accidents. It seems to me to be an option for those of us who do not have access to that specific glue, I am going to try it soon on my motorcycle. Thanks for sharing !!
Thank you so much for this priceless video. I really appreciate the effort to post this in such a clear way with all details and even the alternate parts needed. I just order the parts and I'll be ready to get my partner back to roll. Best wishes for you and every gs rider! It's really a gift to have access to this help for free. Thanks again!
