NEVER Over-Tighten the Belt On Your Jeep 4.0! (Duh)
Today I'm sharing one of the (many) dumb mistakes I have made on my Jeep XJ. This lesson goes without saying, but in case you are morbidly curious, here is why you should never over-tighten the belt on your Jeep 4.0!

How to build an AWESOME anvil stand! Pt. 1
This is not how you would ideally do a cut and turn. The "right" way to do it is to only cut the weld at the C's, without cutting into the axle tube. The C's are pressed onto the original axle tube. With the weld cut, you then hammer off the C, grind off all the weld and prep for rewelding, rotate it, then hammer it back on at the desired angle. This way you do not lose any of the original axle strength. The way you did it relies only on your add-on sleeve, and weld for strength, which is weaker than leaving the original tube intact.
You are correct I believe I mentioned this in the video. Given that the axle sleeve is thicker than the original axle tube I would not agree that this was weaker however. If I didn't do the axle sleeve then this would not be a good way to do it.
Very cool product.
Was your rear axle a dana 35 and is there a video of the regear on it
Hey nope its an 8.25. I didn't make a video.
You should have welded the tubes to diff at factory seam and on the short side i stick welded it due to limited space for the gun
I've replaced this on a grand caravan for my father in-law, his just rusted so much it broke. It's behind the glove box in the fire wall. 5 Min fix.
I have a 2011 ford ranger fx4 off road with a solid front axle swap. So I was thinking about getting a Spartan locker for my front axle for when I go off road to have full traction. But the problem is I'm worried about steering binding because of it & daily driving. Do you recommend a limited slip or auto locker?
I can't speak for the Spartan locker but this powertrax locker is awesome! 0 issues with daily driving, it's invisible.
@trailandco okay. Cool. I was worried of getting it bind up in sharp turns while driving on pavement . But I guess imma get it👌🏻.
It'll kill the water pump too... Keep the XJ classy not trashy!!
Absolutely!
Where's part 3? I need to fix this dumb oil cap
No part 3, I returned it! Lol
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I love my mitsubishi delica so much. Get a lift, bigger tyres and a front auto diff lock and it'll rip way harder
I'm here for the XJ! 💪🏼
Great video! I never thought that I could enjoy watching jeeps go over a rocky road. It is also good information on their features. 😊
There's just something about it!
This rig is 🔥🔥
Great video! I have enjoyed your beautiful Earth exploration, and can’t wait for the next one!☺
Thank you!!!
Love the product
AWESOME video 😎👍
Thank you so much!
🔥🔥🔥
Best crew ever 💪
Love it, it’s an amazing adventure 😊
I wanna go!
Was the gusset and upper control arm plate difficult to weld
Nope no issues!
@@trailandco jks makes a good mini skid for the lower control arm mounts
7:40 You would use a square to place them square. like you have at 11:42 Or a 45* to set a part at 45*. Not everything needs to be jigged at 90* Even if you need something super precise you can still achieve this with setup tools rather than the actual location of the holes to go by. I think those angle buttons are threaded for you to buy the required bolts if you needed to bolt them in place. Someone else put a small drill type vise on their table simply by bolting on a plate that had the pins on it. He just dropped it in place for light duty clamping/cutting operations.
I think I may need this in my life! The phone mount option for these trucks sucks ass so much and I cant tell you how many times my phone mount has popped out of the vent LOL
🎉
Where did you guys camp after jackson falls?
Northern's lower brand products are far superior to harbor freight's stuff.
What brand of jerry can is that?
Harbor freight! But I use rotopax now.
Welcome to The Machine......... What diiiid ya dreeeeam? IT'S ALRIIIGHT THEY TOOOLD YOU WHAT TO DREEEEEEAM!!!!!!
🤣sawzall the C off. What a hack!
I am heading to Breton. I want the coords/location of that cliff camp stay you posted. It was before you got to Meat Cove.
Nice vice , i grew up in Meriden CT , its pronounced mary den . That vice will be that last one you'll need
I was looking for something exactly like this for mine, thanks! Love your products too 💪🏼 Do you think you’ll provide us more details about this build?
Working on it!
What size do you drill it out to
You can also just drill the XJ fitting to 3/16s on your stock pump and get that lighter steering and all while saving saving ton of money and hassle by doing this swap. Learned the hard way cause I did this swap and had a pump that didn’t quite work right. Would whine at acceleration and grind at lock. Save your money and time, just don’t do this swap
I have to agree. I ended up going back to stock later. Too many issues with the pumps I kept getting
Thank you for the thorough video. Put my mind at ease about tackling my axle build.
Hey where was that spot that you camped at by the water ?
Do you plan on making a video for the standard non rivnut install?
Hey not at the moment, it's super easy though you just need to remove the door panel. There's a ton of vids out there on it
looks good
Looking to this this exact thing with this exact tire carrier. Can you link to what you used? What keeps the steel cable in place on the carrier side so that it won't slide around.
Woah! Such a Quick Install!
Hey guy's im in nh would love to do a similar trip in may where are you from would to talk details if possible
Try the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail aka the TWAT 😂
had the same experience with the red rustoleum. Prepped the metal with acetone, 2 coats of primer and was tacky and semi wet even after about a day and a half of drying. It might have been the humidity. But I did end up hitting it with a clear top coat and that made it a lot harder and more durable.
Great vid! Would you guys ever wanna do build breakdowns for the XJs? I'm a fiend for getting new ideas for interior mods lol and you guys have some pretty interesting set ups I'd love to know more about.
Already have one filmed for the blue XJ! Will be uploading as soon as I can edit.
@@trailandco awesome! Can't wait!
Can’t wait to get out again with you folks, always a great time!
great job!
Is there a group to go on runs?
Not yet but we are always down to meet new people
Looks like a fun time. Do you have details on the drawer and/or storage setups in the back of the XJs?
Custom made by a friend of mine!
I’ve got an 88 Cherokee and am doing this swap now and have found out the pressure valve adapters are not the same diameter and tread and the XJ pressure hose adapter will not thread into and tighten down. I’m going to have to go to a hydraulic hose shop an$ have a hose made to fit.
I bought that same table and couldn’t figure out the hardware. The only thing i new how to use are the holding clamps.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i tried to figure out just like you did but didn’t get anywhere . Ived searched all over you tube and cant find a simple explanation what some of the hardware is for. And i went and bought another one.😂😂😂. Same instruction, got no where.
