Nice video Sam, 78 miles 😳, just broke 40 for the first time in my block and legs handling ok. Must be nice to train in a bit of sunshine but a bit of a shock to the system coming back to freezing Britain 🥶... good work over there tho and looks great this time of year 🌞😁

I’m surprised the parkrun went ahead in this weather! My preferred park run was cancelled a few weeks in a row. Solid training week 💪
Thank you! Luckily Conkers is pretty much always on. Only a couple of cancellations ever.
You pulled that week round nicely. Like you I have to get some runs on the board Monday and Tuesday or reset my expectations.
Didn't turn out too bad in the end, especially considering the weather!
Good advice Sam. I've had to adapt my sessions for intervals for treadmills and despite being a vocal anti treadmiller I've bin made to eat my words and actually enjoying a few of the benefits. It's something I'll consider more going forward in order to get the quality session in during snow and ice.. Solid weeks work there 💪 currently on day 22 red but to maintain streak I've done a few 2 mile filler runs. Keep up the good work mate 👍 look forward to next 1

nice one 👍 having done RED jan in the past I just think it's more of a mental focus for the long dark never ending month and it helps me keep my thinking in the day. So mentally yes there has bin a benefit. Physically a rest day wouldn't have done any harm but I've took rest days with 2 mile light jogs instead and my legs have been fresh throughout. Not a hint of heaviness but the sessions are back now so will see.. nice one 👍
I am also signed up for Valencia 2025 and aiming to run sub-3. Weight is huge. My whole plan is to lose about 5-7kg (currently an 76kg) to get over 10 minutes of finish time that I need to find. Less weight not only means you can run faster, it means you can train harder with less chance for injuries and higher mileage. Also expelling heat is easier when fat is thinner. So if you have fat to spare, that’s probably the easiest way to get the result.
You're spot on with weight. I've ran better at under 80kg which is still on the heavy side for distance running. I'm hoping a consistent training and diet will see me around this figure soon. Good luck for Valencia - I'll see you there!
We're having a hilly phase too. Big gains to be made. When I lived in Barnsley you just came across undulations naturally but where we are it's either flat trail or the Pennines. I've neglected elevation recently so bringing it back.

Hill Reps are coming back over the next week for me 😅 I did most Fridays during blocks last year 😅 ... well done on the parkruns. Nice trail course by the look of it 👌
Great stuff, I'm planning on doing one this week too. It's a nice scenic course, worth doing if you're ever in the midlands 👌🏼

Its run day... that's how i treat everyday off during Xmas period.😂.... and more parkruns ... I am hoping to build my weekly milege in the new year. Anywhere around 35-40 for January and upto 40-45 Feb in my half block... not done that kind of volume before so will be tough trying to balance that with vital s&c, family and a 60hr working week 😅 see how we get on... all the best for 2025 🎉

Get everything youve said about booking extra races in. Ive paid the price of my over optimism of booking races close together. I took a dip after a race recently. I intended to build from it but didnt have the motivation and energy to put in them extra key sessions to achieve the next goal. This cost me. So relatable what your saying. I think we need enough time to reset after each goal. Otherwise the thing we love becomes a chore and drains us and we lose sight of the other benefits of running. Thanks for that 👍

Hey, I recently ran a 2:36 as a master's runner (not bad eh?) I'm going to join a club in England I suppose, or I won't get in on the Championship entry, but I'm a foreigner. So, I heard you say "wear your club's kit". If I'm joining as an outsider, just for this race, is that an extra thing I'm paying for and really is it a must to wear the club's kit? I just want to do all this the right way.
Congrats on your 2:36! From the Championship entry section in London marathon's website.. 'providing you are a member of a UKA membership body, you can apply for a Championship place if you don’t live in the UK.' Last year UKA membership fees were £19 and the additional fee of joining your club varies (eg my club was £12). Re the club vest, somewhere in the conditions it states that you must wear your club vest to compete, however I'm not sure how strictly this is enforced as I've seen a number of people run off the championship start with more fashionable outfits.

Great effort for Valencia , I have managed to get a number for next year . Can you share costs for flights and accommodation ? And how far out you booked ? Hoping to book my flight ASAP once released
@@callummcvarnock8085 thanks Callum, might see you there next year! I booked everything around this time of year. Flights around £150 and accommodation was a £40 Airbnb for the Saturday night (who kindly let us leave bags and shower after) although hotels closer to the start/finish were more in the £150+ per night region.
All sound advice. The only thing I’d add is make sure you book more time off work 😂

Also had a tough day - aiming for sub-3h05, ended up with two trips to the loo and a 3h28. And I'm glad you said it was warm - I kind of thought that but didn't really believe it? Probably another factor in making it a difficult day (my perception was that a lot of people were struggling and there were a fair few needing medical help).
Did you run in 2022, or was it also warm this year? On another day we'd have made our targets 👌🏼

I’m glad you said “route” and not the dance, as people don’t realise how fatigued and under pressure the blokes are when on selection. The kit we carry is worlds apart from equal weight that civvies have. An A frame Bergen , DMS boots and an SLR (not slung) is character building stuff. 👍 well done buddy.
