My mailbox post rotted out and fell over! Watch the process of making and installing a new mailbox post. Our mailbox itself had seen better days. Waste not want not! Instead of buying a new one I spruced up the old one by removing dents and repainting it! This project is pretty cheap and easy and you can do it yourself. Trick to installing leaf springs/getting leaf spring bushing into spring loaded shackle.
Переглядів 2525 років тому
Had a little trouble getting the rear of my leaf spring into the spring loaded shackle. Online I saw a couple people do it with ratchet straps but that was a pain. Found a better way and maybe it will help someone out. I did end up using ratchet straps to get the axle to sign up with the center pin on the leaf springs. This way I didn't have to disconnect the shock or the drive shaft. Hope it h...
How to Remove/Unscrew stuck or seized tie rod end from tie rod
Переглядів 173 тис.5 років тому
I was doing tie rod ends and had a lot for trouble removing the tie rod end. Found a lot of videos about how to break the tie rod ball joint and castle nut free from the wheel base but only 3 videos about removing the actual tie rod end from the tie rod. The three videos I found all went straight to either cutting it off or using a torch. I have a torch and a grinder but not everyone has a torc...
Thank you freaking saved me on this
You are life saver. You saved me so much time and hassle. I tried holding the inner tie rod with groove joint plier and a combination wrench with my left hand and twist the outer tie rod with the other wrench with my right hand and those didn’t work. I tried the locking pliers and leaned it on an object. It worked perfectly. What is also good about this method is that I was also able to lean the rod against the knuckle for additional leverage. Awesome tip video.
My inner one is stuck on my 06 Silverado. Couldn’t even free it with the tie rod tool from auto zone. I gave up. Truck won
Doing this tmrw. I wanna count the spins so I can get it close enough to take to the shop for alignment. Thanks bruh
THANK YOU!
I am stuck just right there at the moment.
I read that you can use the crank pulley to seat the wear ring
I read that too but it just crushed the ring lol
You have to get it seated so far and then you can push it on the rest of the way but if it’s not seated enough it just crushes it.
Those talking about a torch: I also thought I might need to go buy a torch. Because it STILL wasn't budging. But first I thought why not just try holding a Bic lighter underneath it? I did just that a few times...and combined with the technique in this man's video it finally came loose! I have lighters on hand because I prep and being able to start a fire for cooking, etc is important. But if you don't have a lighter pick one up - I'm sure it's cheaper than a torch at HD or Lowes and might save you the gas driving there. Hope it works for you!
You really need to use the 303-761 & 303-762 seal installer and sleeve remover to do this job without leaks or damaging a crankshaft. The special tools are expensive but worth it in the long run. There are some Chinese clones that are cheaper than OTC/Rotunda OEM which might work well for several jobs.
I went through 2 wear rings but I got it on and it hasn’t had an issue yet 😊
Just don’t see spending 300 on a tool to do the job once
Tyty
I was doing it on a Honda accord. I could not get any leverage at all so I ended up using a MAP torch to get it real hot and then hit it with my Astro Pneumatic air hammer and thank goodness it worked.
Thank you
Tool for the locking strip insertion runs to the cost of 1½ metres of rubber, and given I will buy 10 metres it ain't worth the hassle not to get the tool. Especially with the perspex in danger of getting scratched if I slip with a (say) screwdriver. The hardest job I see (not started yet) is getting the perspex in after the rubber is in the caravan. Someone suggested string round the rubber (twice) and when you pull it lifts the rubber. But that means putting onto perspex first then offering up to outside of van. 2 person jobbie.
youre still screwed if the lock nut won't move, theres no way to adjust toe in. removing the rod end is easy, now what.
when all else fails, heat it til red hot.
Do you put any product on the gasket agains the glass and the métel? Or is all with pressure?
A spray bottle of soapy water helps immensely to get it in but it holds because the bead locks it in place
Anybody know what happens when we do all this and it still won't break lose of screw off???? Changed all control arms upper and lower, cv axles and joints! All four! Down to one more control arm that is stuck!
thank u bro ! gonna try this tomorrow
Heating multiple times till almost white in eastern Canada & the damned thing still wont unscrew even secured like that, seems like Stuck has a different meaning over here !
Try heating then throwing cold water on it. The rapid cooling causes the rust to break up.
i'm having problem with this removing that bolt there's no rust at all.. whoever tightened that alignment screws an asshole...
Thank you
Spend 2 hours trying to free the spinning Tie Rod then came across your Video! Life Saver! Mega Thanks!
Fought with mine for two days before coming across this video. Huge life saver. Thanks!!!
I used a tire lever too! Getting the lock-in is difficult though. Thanks for the video!
gonna try this cuz mine is not budging! Thanks!
Thank you for your information you save my time here Good bless you
This is not seized lol 🤣
I obviously broke it free before I made the video...
I winder is it easier/necessary to remove the inner tie rod as well and also replace that at the same time? or just can remove the outer one? mine is seized and cant do wheel alignment due to this, so i wonder if i should replace both inner + outer tie rods or just the outer? thanks for any advice
It would make it easier to just replace the inner rods and outer rod ends together.
Your videos are garbage as fuck bro
I didnt notice there were ridges on the inner tie rod. I didnt have vice grips but put a wrench in there a stuck it against body. Prevemted it from spinning. Good tip.
Wowww, can't loose the outer tie rod end for shit! and my lower control arm is in a weird position where the vice grip cannot reach. Thinking to try it again this evening by using a pipe wrench for leverage some how
I just got mine, after struggling for hours. Trick is it's much easier to break the jam nut loose before disconnecting anything else. I had to reinstall the old tie rods back into the steering knuckle, then whack the jam nut loose with a wrench tapped with a hammer.
Your using cresent wrench wrong.moveable part should be underneath
Normally yes. But if you watch you will see that if I put the crescent wrench in the correct orientation, I would not be able to hit the top of it with a hammer defeating the purpose of the video. Sometimes you have to use tools in different ways to get a job done.
Great tip for such an annoying situation!
Nice. Didn't think of using the other end of the rod as a vice holder. My setup is different, as I have a straight bar across, but this unlocked the best idea possible to get those ends off. Thanks a million!
Hi bro! How do you remove the tierod if the previous owner used loctite on it
How did you fix it ?
@@Kaboom_yiii used a torch to loosen it up
Best way is a bit of heat like a heat gun to help the bolt expand a lil bit and it frees easily then
This was super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make the video
These kind of videos are the one that deserve awards
Haven't yet achieved to remove the bolt/nut... But once I do, I'm fairly sure the rod end will be stuck as well. Your piece of advice will be super useful, thanks. (My car has been sitting on jacks in the street for 3days already cause a supposedly 2h job took me already 8h and I'm still counting. Every single bit has been tough to take apart, even though it's not very rusted. I don't understand, but that's how it is.) Thanks to y'all folks posting protips online for people like me who desperately need that.
2 hour job into 8 hours... Lol always when it comes to us home mechanics 😂😂. But the labor $$$ we save is definitely worth it. Plus... The second time around is always much easier.
Ran into same issue i might just replace the adjusting sleeve and take the whole thing out in one piece lol
subbed
Also I forgot to mention you want to put that one bolt by the high pressure line in first when re installing the pump onto the truck! You can get one of the other bolts started to hold it but if ypu go too far it will press the bolt into the line.
Thanks for the info bro..
No. First step for anyone having a REAL problem is spray down tie rod threads with penetration oil for a week every day, then try to unscrew with two wrenches and a hammer.. If you have a torch, you can spray with oil for 24 hrs then try to unscrew your tie rod end while heating with a torch. If that doesn't work, you have to get new tie rods. Don't forget to ask you local auto parts store if they loan tie rod adapters so you can remove the tie rod assembly. Get it right 👍
Sure bud. Every one with rusty tie rods has a week to let their car or truck sit in their driveway while they spray them down and another car to drive to work for that week. Or money to replace their tires from driving on an out of alignment vehicle for a week. Welcome to the real world. Get real and quit being a jack ass on old ass posts. 👍

I ‘m assuming you’re aluminum skin is .030 thick? I bought the one-piece trim-lok (LK1522 for 1/16” and 1/4” glass )locking gasket thinking I could build my cargo trailer window into the.030 skin. Can you please tell me what dimension substrates your two-piece Trim-Lok was designed for? It looks like it would be much tighter than mine (which I’m just now cutting the hole for). Thanks!
I honestly have no idea. I just looked for the same bead lock gasket I had and measured that but there was only 1 gasket on the market I could find.
Appreciate you
Good tip, thanks for the help!
Terrible video 👎🏼
I hope u count how many turns it took to take it off so u can put the new one on with the same count
I know some people do that. I prefer to take measurements with a digital caliper. Some replacement brands aren't as long in the body of the tie rod end or have as much thread on them so counting turns doesn't always get them in to where your alignment is the same. If I measure from the joint to the inner tie rod I know exactly how far it needs to be.
Take a picture too
Going through the same issue right now!! Didnt think to use the vice grips as reinforcement to take off the rod!! U the man
