Mel Besher is a multi award winning, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter. He was an integral part of the Nashville music industry during the 80s, 90s, and beyond. He currently lives on his family farm in Ware, Missouri.

Was so surprised to see my old friend, Evelyn Kidd, on this CBS news segment, with pictures of her husband, Gene, her daughter, Janet, and her son and my old bandmate, Jim Kidd. I just had to blend my memories for posterity. We all had such a good time together.

My ole buddy, "Supe" Granda, wrote this song. I first learned it from the Ozark Mountain Daredevils double-live album, "It's Alive", released in 1978.

This cut is from the first of four records I produced for the bluegrass group, Cedar Hill. It won numerous awards. My old bluegrass group, the Mount Freedom Grass, played a lot of festivals with the Cedar Hill Grass back in the day. Later, I would front the group in the early 2000s for a number of years. I like the vocal blend and guitar work on this cut.

My old friend Lee Bach penned this one, sometime in the early 90's. He called me from the studio one afternoon to sing it real quick. Ya know, the kinda thing where you've never heard it in your life but just step up and sing it. Demoed a bunch of 'em for folks that way.

I've always loved this song. It was written by Glen Ray and has been recorded by Cal Smith, John Anderson, and most recently, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. We recycled some old videos to make this one.

Every time I listen to Red Sovine it brings a tear to my eyes. I regard him among the greatest country stars of all time. He paints a picture in his songs so crisp you just want to close your eyes and drift away.

So have I Mel, but the good thing that has come out of it is many songs I have written have turned out well and hit home with people. Many ask me, "How do you come up with those songs" and I tell them you have to have had many heartaches in your life and be sad about it. @@MelBesher

Powerful and moving, Mel and Emery. Deep appreciations for sharing the song and moreover, the intimate and happy moments in your family videos. What a wonderful family. How are you two faring with the winter storms down in MO? Not sure what part of the state you two are in...but, looks like there has been some strong thunderstorms and snow down your way. We have been colder than a witches t$@ in a brass bra, doing pushups in the snow. About 23 inches of snow with some wicked drifts from 30-45 mph winds. We went 117 hrs with below zero temps. Another round coming tomorrow...will have my John Deere 1025R out working to keep the driveway cleared and try to help out some neighbors. Stay warm, dry, and safe down south my brothers.
Thank you Brother Rex! We've been OK. Just had to keep a heater in the well house and a couple bathrooms. Breaker tripped a couple times but so far so good. We didn't get a whole lot of snow just cold temps. We're right in the middle of the state so we get those hits & misses. Sounds like Y'all may have had to dig the snow away from your doors. That's kind of brutal. I remember some snows like that as a kid, and later, of course would run into some bad ones travelin. You're out helpin others though. That sure sounds like you. I am like you, visiting family in Iowa in the 70's and 80's - the weather seemed to be much colder and a lot more snow. Since moving to Iowa and talking to the elders here - they say the same. I love your count down to spring - Shelley and I are loving the winter here - but, we will be ready to embrace spring once again. Take care my BFAM.
