Behind-the-scenes breakdown of my entry in the Kinetic Rush Art Challenge by Clinton Jones (pwnisher). As with my last cyberpunk render, I listened to a lot of "immersive" music during this competition, which ended up not being great for my overall mood. I also ran out of time to fully implement everything I wanted to include, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out. Final render video: ua-cam...

When an engineer vastly underestimates the rationale of a future hyper capitalist organization XP jk
You deserve more views bro. Your Dead Space video brought me to your channel a couple months ago. Keep up the good work :3
Don’t know if you’ll see this. But 46:26 is explained in the spinoff rail shooter Dead Space Extraction. A Wii game that was later ported to PS3. Basically, the story follows a small group of colonists and crew aboard the ishimura attempting to escape amidst the start/middle of the outbreak. To do so, one of the characters ventures out to disable the ADS cannons so the defense system doesn’t target their escape shuttle. Hence why Isaac had to come in and recalibrate them after the fact. Dead Space Extraction also features a closer look at the Aegis VII Colony (like the concurring prequel comics) and both the vent systems on the Ishimura, as well as a waste disposal sub-level (plumbing sewers etc.). So make with that info what you will.
Wanted to say great video. Looking at the logistics of engineering in Dead Space is such a brilliant idea. As for the safety aspect, I always assumed it was intentional. To help add to the atmosphere of the series’ grim world.
I may have missed his brother, but one thing that you probably missed is the fact that on Europa because the atmosphere is extremely thin, it is impossible for the moon to have clouds
Yesssss, Mechanical engineers UNITE!!!
Oh, no! Space OSHA! lol 1:04:42 Also, I'm in the Navy and stuff like this isn't unheard of, though I'd wager this instance in the game is just some level building oversight. There's a lot of overheard piping that will run through a berthing, and you can be unlucky and have something like a CHT line (read: poop) pass right over your bunk. Gotta cross your fingers that you don't get unlucky and get a top bunk and one right under a boo-boo line. I can't remember if I saw hot water lines pass through berthing, but that would probably be unnerving.
51:54 as a civil, I immediately got pressed when you said that mechanicals the best a second before you said don’t tell civils with that cheeky fnet != 0 popping up😭
Love your stuff buddy, keep going <3
I always thought that the reason for why Dead Space kept the suspense and dread throughout the whole game without losing it because of the constant plot driven tension. The game does a very good job at making every objective feel more stressful than the last. You sense through the plot, atmosphere, and gameplay that the ship is falling apart and that your demise is approaching. Nearly everything that you do is preventing the inevitable loss of all life support and chances getting home. Every-time Hammond, Daniels, or the woman from Hydroponics called I feared the worst, and they end up surprising me about how bad the situation could get. The attention to detail is great. I swear when I say this that the starting game atmospheres felt quiet and decrepit, while by the end, it seems like blackouts, alarms, and explosions could be felt throughout the whole ship.
I just came across this channel today and binged the Dead Space and Alien Isolation videos only to get this monster to show up in my recommendations. Truly thought provoking and insightful content, thanks.
Love the video, at least the first 58 minutes I've seen so far 🙂 I remember playing the game shortly after release and it was fun, I definitively think the campaign was underrated by critics.
I agree; I think if it hadn’t been labeled as a call of duty game, the reaction would have been way different. COD fans were expecting COD, understandably, and what they got was COD in space.
There’s absolutely no way OSHA is still a thing.
Long awaited!!
I love your analysis Videos from a technical realism standpoint. So much of both the visual Sci Fi media and also it's fans miss this aspect, which is much more prominent in literary Sci Fi. Technically/Scientifically Sci Fi with none or few exceptions is good Sci Fi, and we need more of it. I would like to see similar videos on these games, which i'd also consider to be on the more hard Sci Fi side with some depiction of realistic space engineering in gameplay and/or story backdrop: Citizen Sleeper Hardspace: Shipbreaker System Shock Remake System Shock 2 The Invincible Prey (2017)
lowkey hate videos like this cuz mfs always trying to apply logic to mechanics that are meant to slow down player progression, it’s not supposed to make sense.
I never thought it was this complicated but you do gotta remember some things ain't working as they should be because in lore the necromorphs did mess with devices so the survivors could be unalived quicker like the doors and the lasers and fires
Dear Rocket Science Gallary, I would love to see you do an engineers perspective of doom eternal. Lots of structural engineering to talk About. Lightning, computers, platforms, portals etc.
Also Re: cutting torch - the screen isn't adjusted very well / should be larger - it should be protecting the eyes from the whole flame when using it
Great video! In the future (no pun intended) could you refrain from whipping the camera around so much? Kinda giving me motion sickness, I'm going to push through it but whoooo I had to look away during the cockpit/passenger part.
That's a great point, I will keep that in mind for future reviews (or at least after the next one since I've already recorded it). A lot of times something relevant happens during an action scene that goes by quickly, or I won't catch it until editing, but where possible I'll try to pay more attention to that. Thank you for the feedback!
The games that I hope are going to be done at some point are Prey, the other 2 dead space games, & maybe the COD Infinite warfare. There is likely a few more in the Alien franchise as well.
This video really makes you appreciate this part of ghosts. Like usually you play it & think nothing of it but I guess whoever they put on designing the stations decided they would do a bunch of research onto space weapons, oddities of zero gravity & the ISS.
38:25 iirc, there is a very short direct path from the console to the door, but it was destroyed and blocked off by the corruption. The big fans would normally be safer than that. I think stasis is supposed to be a near 100% freeze for an extended period of time, as you can see when Mercer uses his own stasis module. But of course, it had to be nerfed for gameplay purposes. 1:16:50 Temple's force gun isn't as powerful as it should be because Mercer confiscated components he deemed unnecessary for Temple's work, to prevent him from killing Mercer with it.
The food area venting to the exterior might make sense if we assume its to allow the restocking of food easier. Like when the ship is at a port instead of taking the food through the Hanger & over to the Food area they can just bring it directly into the storage area for easier transport.
Lmaooo yeah it would suck if somebody got stuck in the suit kiosk. Good thing that never happened.
1:31:46 lol It really hurt my brain reading that.
I always figured the attack on Europa sounded very similar to the Japanese’s sick city-wide experiments on China (and the MK Ultra experiments by the US government) The experiments on the prisoners also reminded me of the Holmsburg patch experiments
Will you try the Mass Effect universe anytime soon?😅
Is there a way I can download this model? this is such a good showpiece for learning!

"Regulations are written in blood" They said "good, we're gonna need a LOT of blood"
If stasis doesn’t make sense think of it this way: if your working on a huge ship like the miners or engineers with a bunch of fast moving dangerous equipment your going to want to slow that down a bit and get around. plus by this time period it’s possible that they could have made a temporary time slowing invention
Gleise Beach could also be another star trek reference of Risa, the beachside vacation planet they go to a few times in Star Trek TNG. just a thought. The 'Air screens' in the landing bays actually makes sense to me. In the same vein as Kenesis tech, it could be a narrow field specifically designed to only affect particles or molecules of a specific density or less?
31:33 did not expect a zombies reference
This is a personal note, please ignore. 12:30, 29:32 Star shouldn't be visible 15:17 Wind speed too fast 18:26 Torren should be silent 32:53 Relocate schematic 38:55 Stop condensation 43:48 Code it as so the npc reacts as if an alien is present 55:23 Turn off 1:17:08 Flip heat sinks 1:40:16 Turn side to side off
Can someone pls send me a vid turorial on how to make stasis?
question: for an engine like this how would you get it to operational speeds. I'm assuming a separate source like compressed gasses, but I would like to here about other ways to get things going.
Correct: usually you would use compressed gases to start flowing the propellants into the engine, but this doesn't have to be from a separate gas tank. You can also bleed off some of the supply of each propellant into another line that is heated by the nozzle and/or combustion chamber, and feed it back into the supply tank at higher pressure; but for this you also need to get the engine running first. In some cases you can use the initial pressure from the tank to start the pumps, and in some (newer?) cases I believe you can also run the turbopumps electrically to get them started. It's also technically possible to use something like a piston or syringe to pressurize the gas, but if anything this is only really for special cases of small engines.
Can you please put the model online so I can 3d print it?
Do 1,000,000,000-druple pendulums
Just stumbling upon this today after seeing your dead space video earlier… Man, I LOVE IT!! I look forward to watching this entire video later at work, the quality of your content is amazing and I hope your channel continues to grow!!!!!❤
Just a pointer about the biological prosthetics thing. That medical practice is actually illegal in the dead space universe, but the company operating the Ishimura were already doing illegal things, so this shouldn't be surprising lol
I was thinking... Could be that lack restraints on chairs (at least like those for piloting) is due to having a magnetic (?) attachment systems, like in shops
Loving these reviews. If you ever feel like a quick one to do (in terms of it not havig a long difficult campaign to explore) have you considered Space Engineers? The title alone makes the reason evident. As a primarily sandbox game you can just stick on creative mode to quickly experiment and explore the options and basic functions of the setting. And it has published scenarios (some free, some dlc) and npc ships/stations if you want to focus more on exploring how they present the universe lore.
Thank you! Space Engineers sounds amazing and I would love to play it, but I have the feeling that if I ever did I'd never want to do anything else. I'm grateful that I get to do space engineering for a job, so I think for now I'll stick with that. Maybe someday though if I somehow get much more time on my hands!
The real horrors are the OSHA violations.
I think Isaac should be an electrical engineer like me lol
Btw, one of the service announcement languages is also in Polish. Idk if its based on your system, but I remember hearing the Polish announcement pretty often.
4:23 you'd be amused to know that your way is much closer to the actual pronounciation of Sevastopol
the Ishimura was notorious for not following safety standards, even the operation they were doing was highly illegal.
