Grocery prices are climbing here in Australia, so I'm keen to check out good budget friendly grocery options when I can. I recently headed to the chain 'Cheaper Buy Miles' and found a few decent bargains, but this week I went to Not Quite Right (NQR) and did some compares and a small budget grocery haul. *Download my free meal planning template here: mailchi.mp/886d42d51d42/simple-meal-plan-pre...

It was time to restock my fridge, freezer and pantry and I thought I'd do a price comparison of Coles vs. ALDI prices in Australia at the same time. Tag along for my stock up grocery haul and see the pretty major price difference between these supermarkets in Australia as of October 2024. *Download my free meal planning template here: simple-essentials.com.au/meal-planning-resources/ Want more ...

My prediction with the ham was creamy ham carbonara pasta and a ham potato bake, both with cheese. Great shop and plan, hope we get to see the meals 😊 my first thought was a ham fried rice but no rice there so knew it wouldn't be that

Good to compare prices of what we spend for our family of 4 adults for half the week & 5 adults for the other half. We've only just upped our budget very recently. We're close to you price per person. I'm looking out for a great price on ham, so I'll have to check our local IGA too. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Food prices in Aussie are crazy, I can’t shop at just one supermarket… as you know if you know your prices you end up going to Coles, Woolies and Aldi. The shopping centre I shop at has all 3 stores so it makes it a little easier
There are IGAs everywhere in Canada also.
Food is crazy expensive in Australia at moment. Only just realised my 250g block of cheese actually used to be 450g. I wondered why it wasn’t fitting perfectly on my crackers. Really have to price check everything now between all the supermarkets. I’m thankful I have the 4 major supermarkets at my door step to go between. Dandenong market is good for meat, fruit and veg.
I know ALDIs cheapest bread is currently $ 2.69 .
@@catherinephillips8925 thank you!
I highly recommend Mindy Pelz too. I have watched a lot of her UA-cam videos and lost 16 kilos and kept it off for nearly 12 months. If I had known how easy it was . Love your cooking and shopping ... Chanel and wish you all the success you can have. Cheers Daniela
@@2ndchancecatrescue398 thank you, glad you enjoyed her book too!
I'll have to check it out!
Here just East of Melbourne City, we find ALDI to be 20-25% cheaper than the big 2. Meat and fish can sometimes be cheaper from good specialist outlets though. We normally do an ALDI shop and then buy things they don't have from the big guys. Places like NQR can provide great bargains for a few items too. Cheers!
We have that same Easiyo yoghurt maker which we bought many many years ago. Unfortunately, a few years ago we discovered that 4 out of 5 of our family need to be lactose free! I've made yoghurt in it using coconut cream & probiotics capsules which worked fairly well. However, coconut cream isn't great for my cholesterol, so might have to try some other way. Hubby can have A2 milk so might try A2 milk powder to make yoghurt, but that's very expensive. Any other ideas are welcome!!! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Was that the Cranbourne store ? I used to go there to buy their chicken and leek pies that were very delicious , I think you have to know your prices because I have bought a few things and they were cheaper at Aldi .
Make a price book and mark down the price and the date. Sales are on cycles. You can buy 2 for the price of one sometimes, and you can buy enough to last until the next sales cycle if you can afford it.
I agree with a few others . It was once very cheap but no longer . You really have to look .
I live in Tasmania and it’s either Coles, Woolies or IGA. It’s interesting to watch the options you have in Melbourne.
@@Lisajen-h5u I didn't realise ALDI was not in Tassie! My local IGA sometimes has some good deals, but definitely more expensive than ALDI.
So interesting to compare. Never heard of this NQR though. Will you go back again?
@@mandymaney6856 if I was passing by, I would stop in, but I would not make a special trip for it!
Not all NQR are equal. One store out of three that I have shopped at is worth a return trip. You do need to know prices as some items cost more than other supermarkets
@@elainetaylor233 For sure, I will check out a few other NQR not too far from me over coming months 🙂
Nqr is no longer super saving:-( we do buy yoghurts there and chocolate as it’s the cheapest by far. But you need to find out their yoghurt stock up day cos that’s the best day to go.
@@amanthilynch1785 the dip and snacks were quite cheap, but most things were certainly not...

Hi just discovered you, great job...i also love the music youre playing .can i ask what its called? Thanks in advance !
@@estelleyates1036 audio clip is linked in bottom of the description box :)
I didn’t find much at the NQR I went to recently- salami was a little cheaper, I bought an individual drumstick ice cream for $1. But they had great prices of $1 a small pack on their herbs and spices- I bought Cardamon pods and cloves so cheap $1. Soak a clove in a glass of water overnight to use as a mouth rinse the next day- it doesn’t hurt to try it, and good to poke into oranges and Christmas hams, and mulled wine too. And I bought 3 cooling wettable neck towels for about $3 each to prepare for those hot summer nights with a fan blowing for that evaporative cooling effect 🥵🥶😴
I found some good dips and snacks mainly, other things were not that much cheaper. Just uploaded my video on NQR :-)
😳😳😡🤬Disgusting collusion of price rises at exact same time with Coles and Woolworths both raising the prices of their home brand frozen puff pastry 1kg sheets by 25% - from $3 to $4 - That is an inflation of 25 % when prices of flour and water have not gone up!!! Aldi’s are still $3 for their homebrand 1kg pack but I’m sure they are itching to copy too. Time to go op shopping for an as new bread machine for $20 to automatically set and forget- make my own dough, pizza bases, donuts, bread so it’ll be their loss not mine anymore💪🏼.
My daughter bought me a yoghurt maker for Christmas. Mine is electric. Took me a while to get the recipe sorted to my liking but it is so satisfying not having to buy it when you run out.
@@mandymaney6856 it's great once you work it out. I got my recipe from my mother in law, and always used the Aldi full cream milk powder and then all of a sudden they must have changed something because it did not turn out as good with the same blend. Always calibrating 😂
The seeweed and wasabi crackers are lovely Emmy . I buy them at nqr which is a similar store to cheaper by miles . Knowing your prices is a very good idea and prices by unit too.
Nice simple but tasty recipes. Choc cake looked yummy. Going to give this one a try.
ALDI is 25% cheaper than coles and Woolworths. you're not really providing a proper comparison.
@@bunnie.004 interesting, is that a stat from a survey somewhere or your own research?
Not everywhere in Australia. Our Aldi is around the same price or dearer than woollies
you need to learn how to edit videos. you take a screen shot of the price and item and display it next to the other as a comparison, swaying your phone around is not the way to do it.
Where are your videos? You should learn to be more respectful. Hate unwarranted negativity for no reason especially on a small channel. Go get a life.
@@bunnie.004 thanks for the feedback!

Aldi hommus is the best! Could you not get noodles in Aldi? Plus tin soup, baked beans, coconut milk etc?
Aldi tinned beetroot is from China. Coles home brand beetroot is from Australia. If we don't support Aussie farmers & growers, then we will end up with overseas produce only & then supermarkets can put prices up to whatever they like. Cheapest isn't always best!
I never mentioned beetroot...
Also never mentioned cheap... said the best as in taste
I like Aldi hummus too. Some of their dupe items (biscuits etc) are made by the Aussie companies who made Dick Smiths' stuff back in the day. Aldi cheddar etc is Bega cheese. Aldi generally pays more per kg to the Aussie fruit & veg farmers than Coles & Woolies (I was told that by a farmer)
@Sonja... It was an example about their tinned food!
Great video 😊
Great hauls. What is the price on the Vitoria coffee?
You really do need to shop around don’t you. Great video xx
Thank you NQR is great in Adelaide
Thanks for showing what you bought at Aldi & Coles. I'm especially thankful you showed the GF options as that's what my family needs. I'd never seen the lebanese GF bread & have that in my cart for next time for pizza bases. Hubby usually makes our own bases using chickpeas which is yum & very cheap but that would be a great fast alternative. I'll see if it goes on special! I checked & we don't have the packet of GF noodles, only individual cups, so maybe that's just in SA. I'll keep an eye out for it! Unfortunately, as I'm homebound due to illnesses I need to order online & have it delivered so that cuts out Aldi for us. However, I usually buy foods half price at Coles & stock up then as we have a food storage area at our house. Hubby sometimes goes & gets super cheap priced meat elsewhere, but I try not to give him more jobs to do for me than he already has. Have a great week. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Would love to know your hubby's chickpea pizza base recipe/method 😊
@@Sonja... Chickpea pizza bases for 2 pizzas to feed our family of 4. Blitz together: 2 cans drained chickpeas; 2 eggs, some water if needed to blitz. Then add: 1 3/4 cups all purpose GF flour; 1/4 cup almond meal (or almond flour); salt & garlic powder to taste; added water or flour if needed. Cook at 210C for 10 mins then add toppings & cooked for another 8-10 mins. Enjoy!
Just started watching this, but i did a shop at coles a few weeks ago and some of their prices were higher than my local Foodland
So many great ideas! Please do another one!

Potato and sweet potato great in airfryer
Hi, how do you spend $20 a week?
@@AmaliSaid-xz1dr with the tips outlined in this video! :)
My nearest discount grocer is NQR. I have 2 stores about an hour away. I find they have better options for our family with allergies of gluten, dairy and peanut.
I want to thank you for this video…..and your others of course but this one in particular is the one that has switched my meal planning light bulb back on for me! I used to meal plan all the time. Then my sons moved out and it was just me and my husband. So I still cooked for four and froze or stored leftovers. The problem came when we moved and downsized from about 150m2 to 85m2. My kitchen has better storage options but the physical size is a lot less and I have very little bench space. Throw menopause and some mental health struggles into the mix and for the last three years I have kind of lost my way in the food department. I have been wasting more food than I like and also freezing it and then forgetting about it (menopause memory haha) - the main freezer is in the garage due to space restrictions and it’s a bit out of sight/out of mind. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos over the last week and this one in particular was a lightbulb moment. Yesterday I made a roast chicken/roast veg/ greens and gravy. Today we both had chicken and salad filled rolls for lunch. I have frozen the leftover roast veg and some chicken and gravy for another meal. I made stock with the carcass (something I used to do all the time) and I have used the leftover green beans and peas along with a part tin of tomatoes, some added veg and a bit of the chicken to make chicken enchiladas for dinner tonight. I plan to start using what’s in the freezer and shop there first! Thank you so much, I appreciate all the work you put into these videos and your channel and I will be hanging out for future episodes 😊
@@Originallyadressmaker thanks for being here and glad you found the video helpful! Roast chicken and veg is one of our favourites 🙂
I use the same items as you except for cling wrap. I have a set of round silicone bowl covers that are so handy for all sorts of things, especially for rising bread. It creates a seal and works really well. Unfortunately I purchased them at a home show and they don’t have a brand on them.
Similar silicon ziploc bags turn up at Aldi whenever they have an eco-storage week. Some of Aldi's food comes in pretty jars that look more than they are when reused - eg sliced beetroot, fruit jam ridged jar - and can even be used for food gifts
With the opened tomato paste and pasta sauce in the fridge. If you store the bottles upside down the paste etc is less likely to go moldy quickly. The paste reseals the lid so air doesn't get into the paste. (A trick from a long gone cooking show on channel 10).
