Winters in Chattanooga sound wonderful compared to winters in North East South Dakota. Our winters last about 7 months and most of that time is 20 or below with lots of negative temperature days with high winds. It’s a frigid frozen tundra

Chattanooga native. Left home 40 years ago, BUT my family still lives there. Lookout Mountain is old money, Signal Mountain is new money. At this point, there may not be the distinction. As far as Gunbarrel road; I lived in LA for 15 years. I would rather drive any LA freeway, on a Friday night, in the rain than drive on Gunbarrel road. My son worked at VW for a while and lived in an apartment close to Gunbarrel road. EVERY trip was predicated on how to avoid that road or spend as short a time on it as possible. I've successfully avoided for years so, who knows, it may be better.

Full of druggies ! In the actual city of Cleveland. The outskirts ok but I'm telling y'all the city is a POS. So is Chattanooga and collegedale, McDonald. unless you are wealthy or portray as such I would avoid these city limits at all costs. I see you're at Red Clay. Which once upon a time was considered Georgia. Beautiful park. That's where to live is the outskirts do not move to these cities. Crime , drugs and human trafficking are abundant as it's a hub along the interstate 75 the main access across the eastern sea board. Also Lee college is one of the main centers for drug dealers and users! If you're into homelessness, transients, crime, drugs then these cities are for you. Geesh this guy is trying to make a sale and has no real concern other than his pocket size.

My family moved here to Chatt from Tampa back in 2018. We were born and raised, native Floridians. The traffic is bad in the construction areas, and on Gunbarrel during certain times. The Hamilton place mall is busy during the holidays, like every other mall. That area is the main “shopping district”. If you live in areas like Hixson, you don’t need to go to outside of there because everything you need is there. We bought a house in Ooltewah, and our family loves our city of Chattanooga, and our new home state of Tennessee. My wife is also a realtor here in TN and N. GA, and like almost all of the country, real estate is expensive. I work in the healthcare industry and the pay is comparable to the Tampa area. It was a win for us. We would never willingly leave Chatt!

High crime with many ghettos. Bars on doors and windows and now reported Venezuelan gangs. Also, the homeless population has increase exponentially. You commonly see people strung out on drugs having manic episodes in broad daylight. Regarding Hamilton Place Mall, there have already been several shootings at the mall, one taking place in the parking lot the struck multiple vehicles, nearly striking a baby car seat, thankfully it was unoccupied.

Born in Chattanooga. Lived in Georgia for around 16 years and moved back to Chattanooga again 3 years ago. Chattanooga will always be my home. I love it.

Worked in the area for 3 years. Many old scrap and industrial yards have been converted to new condos and homes. So things are still being upgraded downtown. Has a good water recreation following with the Tennessee river, I paddleboarder on it. A highway bypass loop was proposed for the I-75 traffic east of Ooltewah to Ringgold, not sure what stage that proposal is in. St. Elmo is very old style, but was considered one the most dangerous neighborhood outside of Memphis. Signal Mountain also is quieter but it seems isolated residential on the hill top. Lookout Mountain is the old money area. f you are bound and determined to move into this area consider Dayton TN, Cleveland TN, Hixon, TN, or Red Bank TN.

I lived in Chattanooga for 20 years from 2000-2022. I moved to Nashville five years ago. I miss the cute downtown area, trendy restaurants, and the amazing biking trails!! What don't I miss?? Everyone always asking me where I went to high school!! People are very snobby in Chattanooga and if you didn't go to the "right" high school ( expensive prep schools) people would not socialize with you... Also, the cute downtown area was overtaken by people from Atlanta and the prices on townhouses and condos are insane!! As a single person, I don't want to live 40 minutes from downtown in Soddy Daisy or Ooltewah. So many people move to Chattanooga for the outdoor sports who are very wealthy and will not socialize with you if you are not equally as committed to outdoor sports... A typical question I would receive on a first date would be how many miles can I cycle?? If less than 50 miles, there would be no second date.... The traffic is impossible!! Interstates, winding roads, torrential downpours, and the tremendous number of semi-trucks create bottlenecks where you can be stuck sitting for close to an hour on the interstate. Nashville's traffic is child's play in comparison. You practically never see the sun in Chattanooga!! There is a reason they call it the smoky mountains, there is constant cloud cover. I look 20 years younger because I never saw the sun for 20 years... Every time I would load up my kayak to drive to the lake, it would start to rain.... You cannot kayak on the TN River downtown safely; it has a very swift current.
