Stephen asks about the Equality and Human Rights Commission's investigation of the DWP
Today in Parliament, 23 May, Stephen questioned the Government about its treatment of disabled benefit claimants, after the Equality and Human Rights Commission launched an investigation into the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) yesterday.
The EHRC is the UK’s independent human right’s regulator. Yesterday, it launched an investigation into the DWP over suspicions that the Government had broken equality law by failing to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people with learning disabilities and long-term mental health conditions during health assessments.
The EHRC first began investigating the DWP in 2021. It initially tried to sign a legally binding agreement with the DWP to address its concerns. However, negotiations to bring about an agreement failed, leading to yesterday’s announcement.
Stephen questioned the Government about the investigation and the negotiations. He pointed out that, now the negotiations had ended, the Government is free to share information about the negotiations.
“Confidence of disabled people in the department is at a terribly, terribly low ebb,” Stephen said. “At the very least, we need some explanation of the department’s view of why it has not been possible to reach an agreement [with the EHRC].”

    1. % taken is way too high 2. Incentivises resident parent to reduce nights with non resident parent by financial incentive if nights are reduced. 3. Suicides rates of 90%+ males within cms remit stats are horrendous and appears the cms are trying to hush these stats. 4. Fictitious arrears (fraud and financial abuse tactics used by cms) 5. 300 million pound profit for organisation destroying children & families is abhorrent. 6. Resident parents situation isn’t even considered (in my case owns a 1.5 million pound house, has a trust fund ect) so completely inequitable and unfair Cms does need to exist, all parents should pay there way, but the current system is completely broken…

All banks will roll over and comply. If you receive benefits (which includes State pension which has been reclassifed as a benefit and not an entitlement), i would recommend you open another bank account and move all your other transactions to that...but DO NOT make any transactions between the old and new account as they will also have the power to track down 'linked accounts' and doing so will link them.... how Orwellian....

The government have so many scandals to deal with, that they don't need this magalith in the public domain. Post Office and Grenfell are still bot settled. There's hundreds of lives lost or ruined with those tragedies. With CMS we are literally talking tens of thousands of lives with thousands of suicides.

Cms is a scam. I have no problem with the percentage. It's the way they work it out. Massive problem they use last years incorrect figures and overcharge me every year (been getting back pain so working less and less). The judges are biased and tell you the liability order is not to question the calculation. How can they use fraudulent, false, or misleading evidence against in a court and get away with it. I have paid the right amount, and if they could use the figures from my live wages that they have access to, I would be happy with them.

Wake up! It is more than likely NOT just going to be used for benefit fraud. Inherritance Tax liabilities are also very likely to be scrutinised. Banks are already sharing your data with the NCA, the government national crime agency. Not paying the full amount of IHT will be seen as a crime and thus gives them open access to your bank details. When you die, it will be simply a case of scrutinising your bank account to determine, for example, if you have gifted too much money in the past 12 months to a relative. Last year, 22/23 saw the highest IHT tax grab at over £12B. This is the mafia. Stop feeding these bloody grabbing socialists and plan your IHT liability early. This lot thinks we are bloody stupid. B'stards.

Problem with the CMS: - the percentage that is calculated is too high and taken before tax. - false arrears - incentive of keeping receiving parent getting more money if the paying parent doesn't have child overnight - trying to get hold of CMS takes very long - challenging with appeals is extremely long and slow process. Overall it is not fit for purpose and doesn't represent to make childrens lives better. Should be decomissioned.

I, for one, am thankful for receiving free school meals as a child. I am now a pensioner but can say that none of my six siblings or myself would have survived without them, or without the 1/3rd of a pint of orange juice or milk at morning break. The school holidays were awful. We have to go out foraging for mushrooms, berries, apples - anything that we could find in the hedgerows - and we grew potatoes and carrots to make a stew with. It seems like nothing much has changed since I left school over 53 years ago. In this day and age, no child should go hungry, especially when the current government wastes money right, left and centre. £12 billion is going to the Ukraine to fund their war, £500 million to France (over 3 years) to combat the dinghy divers; £1 million wasted on a monument to Muslims who served in WWII; £7 million a day spent on housing illegal immigrants; millions wasted on the Nightingale Pop-Up Hospitals that were never used; countless millions wasted on Track & Trace and Pop-Up Vaccination Centres, money wasted on testing kits and PPE; money wasted on cycle lanes that barely get used, and what about all the money that Wales spent on changing all the speed limit signs to 20 m.p.h. which they are going to have to change back? There's a £9.9 billion budget for Foreign Aid, 54% of which is spent in Britain for housing refugees and migrants. In 2021/22, the UK spent £286 million funding an aid programme in Afghanistan! The government should be held accountable for all this senseless waste and money should go where it's needed most, in our own country, housing the homeless, feeding school children, repairing schools, repairing the roads and pavements, looking after the elderly, properly funding the NHS and providing more dentists, doctors and nurses, and care facilities for senior citizens. I'm amazed that there hasn't been a revolution in this country yet, but I'm sure one will come when people grow a backbone and say "enough is enough".
