An adventurous Family in the Back country! When doing long Back Country trips with kids you need to go as light as you can. Our channel can help you with gear ideas and trip ideas to lower your base weight and help you be successful and safe and to have fun as a family. Chris and I have many decades of combined experience Skiing, climbing, and mountaineering in the back country. We had our kids late and had to slow down to have a be with the kids. Hopefully we can help other families get out there and show that slowing down can actually be fun too. #adventure #ultralightbackpacking #backpackingwithkids #hiking #backpackingwithdogs #joring #siberianhuskies

another great review, the packs I love : LiteAF curve 46. Zpacks super Nero w/vest & padded hip belt , Outdoor Vitals Skyline 30
@@j3hikes444 tell me about that Super Nero. I have been eyeing that one. How much weight have you had in it to comfort.
lol I also have a nemo switchback sitting in its box in my office.. I thought I may use it but chances are it is going back to Altitude for the same reasons you had. Just too big and bulky for what I need.
@@Hike-n-wine yes i would send it back :) unless you do winter camping. Then its useful. We like the 1/8 inch pad from gossamer gear
I gifted myself the zenbivy light for Christmas.. I am so excited to try it. I slept in it on my living room floor and loved it! You won’t get drafts as the quilt tucks all around you. It is so comfy!!
@@Hike-n-wine AWESOME, i gifted myself the ultralight mat! can’t wait to try it.
I am glad I found your channel! I am a Calgary girl so great to see gear being tested and used on hikes that I also frequent! You are very adventurous! I wish I could get my kids to comee with me too!
@@Hike-n-wine hello Calgary :) how old are your kiddos?
@ kids are 12 and 15 and will come if forced. I just found this last two years I have enjoyed going solo.. learning how to be ok being by myself.. it has been an adventure and I am still getting comfortable with it!
@Hike-n-wine oh goodness. I haven’t done that yet! I am ok with day trips solo but i haven’t done an overnight. Ive been meaning to try. Maybe when my kids are old enough to fend for themselves. Sounds like you need to meet more of the community that likes to get out there! There are a few of us around :)
@ yes very happy to start to meet people. Happy for you to point me in the right direction. Thanks!
love what youre doing! more bikejoring!
@@Lifted-Elephant thank you! There will be more :)
Cool video, so many different harnesses for different dog powered activities. You didn’t show the Manmat harnesses??
It’s awesome too. I had to pick one because it’s a ‘favourites’ video. I picked the non stop joring harness because it just fits the dogs body better because its fully adjustable and has more padding. The Manmat is prettier though!
Just picked up the low. I was worried about the width since I have a fairly wide foot. However so far so good. Super light and they seem to be molding to my foot over last few days.
Yes they take a couple walks to break in but loosen up nicely. Now if i could just figure out how to keep the shoe laces done up!
Nicely done. Great to see how your load out is a mixture of ultralight, big brand, cottage brand and discount gear.
It is all about what works, right? Can’t always buy the expensive cottage gear for everything when buying for 4 people and two spoiled huskies :) thanks for your comment!
Saker makes dog harnesses with removable packs. They are sold out often but you might check those out!
Can you share a link?
I found them. Unfortunately they are way too small and also a zip pack. I need the dogs to carry their food and tent and pads and leashes and bowls so smaller than the ruffwear won’t work. Maybe someday they will make larger ones. Nice packs though! Especially for day hikes. Appreciate the pointer!
This is definitely my 2025 purchase as I’m capped with my 2024 spend. 😅 My setup on the Aero 28 (fully packed with food, water, and fuel) with a bear canister is hovering around 17.5 lbs. Hard to sacrifice some comfort items like a titanium cup for some weight savings but I’m almost happy for my 3 day/2 night setup.
Which bear canister are you using inside?
@ I’m using the Lighter1 Lil Sami. Dimensions are 7” diameter and 9” tall. Weighs less than 29oz.
Can we hang the water bladder somewhere?
@@unlockedborders there is a pocket
@ but not something to hang it to? A bladder needs to be suspended
@unlockedborders i did not see a hanger buy ill look again
What are those rediculous ballon tyres
@@Jack-lo1uc those are fat bikes for snow riding
Did you try putting the 2.6”w tire bike on last? Even though the frame is a medium, it looks like the smaller wheels drop it lower into the brake lever.
@@trentflood903 the small bike is the only one with 26 inch wheels. It was put on last on the right. The instructions say to put the smallest bike on last with left to right loading but might be worth trying the small one in between the two mediums. Who knows.
I also went back to the chair zero after trying the moonlite elite. I had a group of 5 try the moonlite elite out on a backpacking trip, compared to the rei flexlite, original moonlite, chair zero, and a klymit chair and everyone unanimously found the moonlite elite to be the least comfortable. The moonlite elite is creaky, unstable, tight around the upper thighs, and not light enough to justify its uncomfortabilty. I found myself never using the side adjusters because the upright position was way too uncomfortable - why did they keep the them on a chair targeted at the ultralight community? The original moonlite, on the other hand, is far and away the most comfortable chair that I've tried (I even tested the big agnes skyline ul chair), and I would prefer to carry it over the moonlite elite even with the weight penalty.
I am not surprised by the opinions. It is very uncomfortable. It’s too bad folks trying it and talking about it on youtube are saying it’s amazing so folks buy it. Maybe it works for really skinny people?
Very thorough, love the detail
another great vid...keep em coming
@@j3hikes444 awe thanks. After I watched it i realized I had a couple spelling mistakes!
I came late . Already bought the mids and I have the same problem as yours, my right little toe is rubbing on the side. It’s pretty annoying. Any suggestion what to do ?
Sorry to hear. Maybe try to return them? Seriously, that is what I did. They were too stiff and painful for me. Other than that I really dont know.
@@alpineearth I have wide feet and at first it was painful but eventually they were broken in and now fits comfortably. But took alot of walking, maybe 15km in.
Thats a lot of unnecessary break in time. I think they should have just made them less stiff in the first place. I had way too much pain to wear then for 15 km
I'm interested in the pack but not sure if it will hold all of my hiking gear? My base weight is about 9 lbs and fully loaded with food and water I'm usually between 17 lbs - 18 lbs. I have a quilt, Zpacks Altaplex tent, typical clothes, food bag, cook system. Would love to hear your opinion on whether or not the Aero 28 can hold a typical ultralight system. Thanks!
I’m on the same boat as you too! Waiting to pick up the Aero 28 this year. Currently, I’m estimating about 17.5 lbs fully loaded with a bear canister. My list has a 15 degree sleeping bag, HMG Mid 1, Thermarest XLite, clothes, cook system, etc. so the dimensions theoretically should fit in the Aero 28. 🤞
@@L4mTr4n Let me know how it goes. Looks like your system is very similar to mine (less the bear can), so I'd be interested to know how it works out for you.
That seemed like torture in your new boots. I have a narrow foot and Scarpa's fit my feet really well in both back country and hiking boots. I've never had a blister in either pair thank goodness. I hope your new boots fit much better so you can enjoy the touring!!!
Thanks! Appreciate the concern. I got new boots again I need to try. I did try Scarpa and my previous boots were scarpa and unfortunately my heel just would not stay down in them. I do wear scarpa scrambling boots though. The Mescalies. They fit well.
So beautiful!

I've owned the Dagger for 2 years now, and it's by far the most sturdy tent I've ever owned. You complain about the tent in 100km winds, yet you have no additional guy lines attached.....You say the wind blew the pole to face the other direction, did you even have the fly velcro straps attached to the poles ? I've had my dagger in higher than 100km winds with zero issues, but I had it properly setup with ALL guy out points secured. Solid as a rock for 2 straight days.
@@jasondiggs3760 glad yours has been so good. everything was set up correctly. The dagger did much better than the other one. All guy outs were secure that came with the tent. First night out with it so we did not have extra for it. If I recall correctly there were a couple extra spots we could have put more line if we had more.
It's supposed to be a fast packing ultralight backpack... And please look for your scale, I really want to know how heavy this whole fully packed sack weighs.

Fun video! To help with your knees, regardless of shoes, try to foam roll your quads regularly. It'll make a huge difference. How to videos on my channel.
@@KevinRStrauss thanks, I do foam roll.
@alpineearth, that's great to hear! Of course, I do not know your specific issue. Are you rolling 1-2x/day, every day? Also, I've found most people roll incorrectly or ineffectively. Wishing you all the best.
Is the nonstop bags waterproof? 😮 and who loves the clips under the stomach after a less gravel and put and about walk? It's almost impossible to unclipped the nonstop. Like you say there are many good ideas for the harness. Gl ❤
@@walle226 the covers on top are waterproof. The annoying covers I want to remove!!
Use gorilla glue.
How do you keep the adjustability?
@roberttrinies7698 you don't The kid doesn't want the thing you set it for your hands and glue it in place.
Great video. I love to learn from other peoples mistakes. I bought the chair too. First time out with it, i left it unsupervised by the fire and got a big burn hole in the seat, i could have cried. Tip when you are putting the cover on and off, rotate the connections on and off, dont force or pull them straight on. Way easier.
I will try that!! Thank you!
totally agree on the chair...tested at local REI and found it uncomfortable.
@@j3hikes444 I so wish we had an REI here so I could have tested it before I ordered it! Oh well.
I used the Light Bed on my AT thru hike, and slept like a baby. Its all the features of a mummy bag in where you can really get cozy but have the freedom of a quilt in terms of movement. Came in handy in New Hampshire where I would roll around all night but never got drafts because of the sheet. In the summer in Virginia, it was way too warm, so I just opened it up all the way and slept on top of it. I just go the UL version. 33% off Black Friday sale right now. Same system as the light bed, just the materials are much lighter. Used it for 2 nights, no issues.
@@ac346673 thank you! Maybe I should pick it up.
blisters on toe tops,...silicone tubes in first aid kit are great. I just used a whistle when I encountered a bear there. There has never been a bear attack on the WCT to date. but if I had my kids with me,.... I would always error on the side of caution. Impressive load out
@@somehappenings246 thanks! We always have bear spray.
I am assuming that this pack is too small for a tent, sleeping mat and sleeping bag etc for multi day trips? I love the running vest style shoulder straps. Do you recommend an alternative pack such as the arc'teryx aerios 45 (or a better pack) for multi day treks?
@@bilaltahir9978 this pack the way I am wearing it in the photo and in my fairy meadows trip, I had it loaded with an overnight. The tent would need to be on the outside. My hubby had the tent. This will easily do 1-2 day treks but likely not more. It’s too small. I have a mountaismith Zerk with vest straps for longer and also zpacks just came out with vest straps on their Nero.
Does the pack make a sqeaking sound for you and does the sternum and hip belts loosen during a trek?
@@bilaltahir9978 yes, the squeak, you need to cut off the tags above in the crease of the shoulder straps to get rid of part of that squeak. No the belt did not come loose. The only other time I got a squeak is when my pack was really wet. Yes the sternum straps did loosen and I had to tighten them every now and then.

You are an athlete! Good job!! It ain’t easy with two crazy Siberians! Lol
Geez that sounds terrible!! Have you used it now? Do you like it? You’re gonna need a truck and trailer soon!!

Thank you so much for this video! This is EXACTLY what i was looking for 😊
Thank you
Can you fit 500ml soft flasks on each shoulder strap or only on one of the straps?
I didn’t try two soft flasks but I tried a bear spray and it kept falling out. A soft flask may be better cause it’s squishy. I can go try a bit later on and see. I have my pack for sale now.
@alpineearth I was asking because on the pictures it seems that it can only fit one soft flask

I wanted to do a review as well but in my opinion it doesn't bring anything to review a product that is off the market.
I realized after my review that I couldn’t find the website. I already did the review and edited it before I realized it. I didn’t want it to go to waste so I threw it up. Maybe they will pop up again? Never know I guess. There have been a few really good companies just disappear. Like Waymark gear. It’s really sad.
I bought a set of bamboo rayon hoodies that make excellent base layers. They are delicate so I hand wash in woolite to prevent stretching.. No holes, but standard enzyme detergents will cause natural wool, alpaca fiber, bamboo and silk holes. . dissolves protein. I learned the hard way and eventually found out with mystery holes. That may not be your issue though. I would try the bamboo. My merino base layer is way too delicate and formed holes while gently hand washing. Chinese made and labeled trendy brand, forget right now. There's nothing softer than alpaca or bamboo. Throw on a wool mid layer and you are set. I also have an alpaca hat that a silver fish liked in storage. That is/ was the best hat! Hope you find a good substitute for the hoodies. Those are pricey garmets.
