    I have fixed quite a few of the older version. I always dismantle the burner and clean it in carburetor cleaner. I have had two with bad regulators on the tank. One would not light at all, the other would run a couple of hours and then quit. I fixed that one using the regulator from an old gas grill. I have another that will only light with a lighter. What is the purpose of this baffle and is it necessary.

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 13 днів тому

      If I understand it right the mower blades have a little bend at the end of the blades. That helps the blades lift the grass, cut the grass and get it out of the mower deck. The vortex baffle helps keep the shape of the mower deck correct to help with that (cut and remove the grass).

    For that spline alignment issue here’s what you do… If the spline is broken off the door is closed, or in recirculating mode. So, connect the motor, and select recirculating mode on the dash. This will move the motor to the recirculating position. Once movement is complete turn power off. Line the motor with splines, and screw holes. It may be necessary to “wiggle” the motor to get screw mounting holes to line up. Good luck.

    Ran great for a year, did not work year 2. I did pretty much all you did in the video, still n/g. I had called Mosquito Magnet peeps and they said I had to take it to an authorized dealer ($100) for servicing which the only one in my area is 65 miles away. Dropped it off and when I was headed back home the tech called me back and said "It's Fixed". Really , that fast? Well, it worked for 1 tank of gas and stopped working again- Going to try what you did cleaning the thermmistor again.. or throw it out a window. When it did work, it worked great.

    I was taught, 50 years ago, to wipe or brush on stain, then wipe off the excess. How is this different? I see that you do not, on this project, wipe the stain after application?

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 28 днів тому

      I am not a true professional but this what I do. If I was building something that would be out of the weather and I was going to maybe polyurethan it, I would do just what you said. Put on stain and then wipe it off. That is because the majority of the purpose of the stain would be to color the wood and a secondary byproduct would be to provide the project with some king of protection. If I am doing a project that I know is going to be outside, the first thing is to protect it from the weather and rain. So outdoor stains/sealers are weather coating and meant to seal and protect the wood. I always use a brush to work the stain/sealer into the wood. I also really work it into the grain of the wood and leave it that way. The more stain/sealer left on the surface the longer it will repel water and hopefully last before I have to do it again. Sorry for such a long answer but there it is, that is what I do and why I do it.

    A Word of caution regarding the burner/filter apparature! In the film, the hole thing easily slips out when the screw is removed. In my unit, it would not come loose so I twisted it with a spanner. It kinda snapped and I kept twisting back and forth. Big mistake! For my model, you have to take the manifold apart in order to service the filter. Now I have an aluminium sleeve stuck halfway so that it covers the filter hex nut. I might have busted the hole thing😢. When you look close on the film you see that it's smooth on the sides where the screw is. On mine, there are some casting dots on both sides that makes pressure on the mentioned aluminium sleeve.

    One thing to remember is that this isn't ONLY for egg smell. It's main function is to act as a super anode to prevent corrosion. That way your water heater last 20+ years instead of 8, with no maintenance.

      Yea, but if you have ever had a bad case of sulfur water you would rather replace the water heater every ten years if it meant getting rid of that smell.

    I’m currently INVESTIGATED in fixing mine. Still won’t work.. new tank, cycled many times. I hired glows cherry red, tested thermistor Ohms..works, disassembled the combustion chamber and cleaned, Solenoid has been disassembled and cleaned. Clicks on when it’s supposed to. Changed o-ring on the nozzle… EVERYTHING! My “eraser head”(filter) is still gold. But my last thing to try is to clean that by soaking it over night in some carburetor cleaner. After that….i guess it’s trash!

      So.. I did get it working. But not for long. :( took a week off for a brain break from the thing. Gonna try and look into maybe the seals in the regulator. One might be faulty. Or the whole regulator itself. *sigh* Can you believe they are still selling these dang things in store!? They are so faulty after one season!

      @@vanessaadney6125 I am also surprised that there are very limited parts available for these too. I do not like mosquitoes, but these m-magnets are not cheap, they should work better and last longer. Keep up the good fight and let us know if you get it working and what was your fix. I am on my third propane tank since i got mine going.

    What model is your craftsman? I cannot find what size belt my 42” YTS4000 from 2011 needs

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 Місяць тому

      My deck belt is 101.5 inches, but if you ever need a part do this. There should be a decal by the battery under the seat on the body of your mower that has the exact model number (mine is 917.28922). Get on your computer and go to the ereplacementparts.com web site and enter your model number in the search window. It should bring up your mower's parts breakdown. From there you can find the part you're looking for on the mower diagrams with a description and part number. It makes it really easy to order from them or amazon.com. I have ordered mower decks from them along with all the other parts I use. Hope this helps.

    Can you strip aluminum patio furniture - sanding and big chips falling off - will look uneven

    • @diyhomefront1695
      @diyhomefront1695 Місяць тому

      Yes you can, but I never used paint stripper (the chemical stuff that dissolves paint). I have always used a pressure washer. The tips on the end of the sprayer can be changed out for a very narrow stream that will destroy wood, but it blasts almost all the paint of off metal. If not just sand it the best you can. Where I live if the furniture is outside, it gets pollen. rain on, dirt from cutting the grass, and just dirty from being outside. So, I have to do this about every five years. So, unlike a chair in your house you don't really notice imperfections the same way. Just get as much of the old paint off as you can and sand it the best you can is what I recommend.
