The WORST Final Fantasy Ever Made
The fifth episode in my video essay series on Final Fantasy. Today I cover the sequel to Final Fantasy 4, The After Years, via the PSP version of the game and give my full thoughts and feelings. I discuss how it is completely terrible, why you should never play it, and how much I hope I never play a game this bad again.

This will probably be the last Trials video I upload for a long time. This is effectively the finish line for Fusion outside of the RedLynx ninjas. There was a lot of garbage for all plats here: FMX, Unicorn, and random bitchass mediums/hards that were impossible for no reason. Glad to be done with it. Trials Evolution - The Mightiest Rider (All Tournament Platinums)

Finally, I bring the conclusion to Evo. Tournaments are without a doubt my least favorite thing in the entire franchise to do. The game was simply not built for pure consistency between tracks. Test Your Might is all of the extreme tracks in Crash County with 5 or less faults which is easily the har...
Trials Fusion - Tricky Titan (Hardest Challenges)

Awww yeah baby, Trials Fusion! This game has a lot of in-game challenges, 3 per track. But most of these are not very hard or the challenge presented is so dumb I got bored. These few, however, I would consider not only difficult, but frustratingly so. Take this minor vid as a small gift to hold you over before the next Fusion vid. You all laughed. "Oh, Plandiss, how hard could a Halo mongoose race track really be? That sounds like child's play haha." Who's laughing now? This shit is genuinely hard as fuck. My first playthrough of the track took 11 hours before the server RESET on the final CP. To beat this is about as difficult as beating Jump King's NB or GotB. It's that hard.

This video isn't about Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, thus it's wrong. A game that was INTENTIONALLY made stupid and easy because "Americans don't play RPGs because they're too hard for them" should be an absolute no brainer. The story was garbage, the combat was garbage, and pretty much everything about it was trash (the main protag being named "Benjamin"... like they were trying to come up with the whitest most English sounding name they could muster...). Music was the only decent thing in it. The same reused story of "the crystals were stolen and we must reclaim them to save the world" nonsense. Sounds to me that you need to play more Final Fantasy games, because TAY isn't even bottom 3.
Man's going to turn around and tell us 13 and 15 weren't worse. Joke of a take.
Yeah, I bought this game when I was a kid, or had my dad buy it for me. Never finished it until years later. It sucked, but I wanted to get my money's worth.
Final Fantasy 4 is not the worst, not even close that is reserved for Final Fantasy 12, which has the worst combat system of any game ever made. I unferstanding they were trying to break free of random battle encounters, but they went about it in the worst possible way and created a battle system that feels like an idle game.
He's talking about The After Years, NOT base FFIV.
Absolutely worst take I have ever seen. That deserves a stool in the corner.
"I guess Kain was in love with Rosa or something?" Brother, the entire point of him getting manipulated in FF4 was that he WAS in love with Rosa which Golbez used to brainwash him into servitude. If you even played the post game content of the PSP version of FF4, you get to see in the extra dungeon's section for Kain that he still feels strongly about Rosa and has some lingering envy towards Cecil. The trial wven offers him the chance to KILL Cecil, even if it's all in his head. You point out so many reused plot points but then don't point out how Kain was in love with Rosa in the original? If you claim they didnt state it outright so it didn't count to you, you're just not paying attention and were too busy nitpicking to notice it.
I agree with your frustration, but I don't think his omission / forgetfulness is really that relevant. Essentially, his points about outright copy/paste and "original" writing being awful still stand.
I quite like The After Years. I would rank it above 2, Mystic Quest, 11... Personally I would almost put it above 7 because I prefer characters that play unique from each other
C'mon, Mystic Quest lower than After Years? Mystic Quest had a straight plotline, sure, but it made sense and characters didn't turn on a dime and change motivations on a whim just to suit the story. FF4: AY either copies FF4 outright, or it tries to connect disparate plotpoints making characters either look stupid or incompetent, or both! TLDR; Mystic Quest > FF4: AY as proven. :D
@@fortissears5388 Mystic Quest is bottom the the barrel trash... what? It had nearly zero redeeming qualities and was made as such because "Lol, Americans don't like difficulty." Hell, even the story had already been done before and this was released long before TAY. TAY isn't great, but in no way is it the worst.
the goat is back (louder)
You only played 50 hours? I played for over 100. I don't consider this game finished until I do every single shrine. I think Tears of the Kingdom is better. I'm not too sensitive to performance but I did notice the performance issues in this game. I like how you can spin in a circle on a motorcycle. 16:19 No explor. 17:28 Ganonderp smile :D. I actually did the Gerudo region first in BOTW. I'm surprised I was able to get through that with just 5 hearts and I hate hard games like Dark Souls. I think in Tears it was one of the last areas I went to. The Fire Temple was a huge pain. This was the true Water Temple of TOTK. You can cheese the Water Temple boss with a sprinkler. My sister loves using Urbosa's Fury. Yunobo's cannonball technique isn't useless. He can break rocks which can save you on weapon durability for mining. I like the Zonai machines. I expected crazy stuff from players and they did not disappoint. A sprinkler is also something you can make. Zonai charges can make the machines work longer and was very useful for flying long distances. Wait TOTK had music? There is no DLC. I think there were Amiibos released later but data miners/hackers probably found way to use them before they were released and were already usable at launch.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Please at 8:10 in vid finish the penis...
quit cussing dude my grandmother reads the comments
You lie. Tears of the Kingdom is the best Zelda game.
Well I totally disagree with all of this, the abilities in BOTW fuckin sucked. Why do I want to make ice blocks? Anyone who thinks that is better is smoking crack.
That is possible??
The depths sucked. They should have just made the sky better and cut the depths for the most part and made the cave system work for the depths system.
The memories not being as open ended in TOTK really bugged me. With BOTW’s memories, you’re not really gaining any new crucial information. You know that you and your team failed to stop Ganon, so in the memories, you’re just seeing how exactly everything led up to you failing to save the day. With TOTK, the story in the memories is told in a much more linear way and does contain crucial information, so the story doesn’t work as well if you view the memories out of order, like I accidentally did during my first playthrough. I know I need to shoulder some of the blame because the game strongly encourages you to go to Rito Village and the first memory is on the way there. But given how open ended BOTW’s memories were, can you really blame a returning player for making that mistake I mentioned earlier?
I’m 10 minutes in and I do not think that spending so much time on the prologue sections was a good idea. Especially as your conclusion is so mild.
14:44 On the surface..? WOW HAHA WE GOT A REAL JOKER HERE A REAL JOKER *turns into joker from batman*
Cringeeeeeeee ugh this makes me upset
Only Minecraft kids like tears of the kingdom
I agree with most of this video but “You never upgrade the battery” is so funny to me. I think most people upgraded that battery
It surpasses BOTW in most every way. What you're disappointed about is that it released 6 years later on the same console, and so, the graphical fidelity being *roughly* the same lessened the overall impact on you.
Well your simply wrong. Totk fixes pretty much all the problems botw had.
I like the botw weapons better. Having to create weapons mid battle was annoying.
Okay this is so oddly fitting
Tears of the Kingdom was definitely better. The issue of durability was improved considerably, quality-of-life fixes were introduced, the powers/abilities were better, and the shrines were more interesting.
Bro 3:18 you got soooooo lucky
I’ll take elemental arrows over fusion any day
recently i replayed botw after totk. botw is one of my favourite games of all time and i think totk is a league better. totk feels alot smoother and is alot more fun, but i do prefer botws story and sheikah involvement, but i will never take anyone seriously who says botw is better. story and experience wise? yes. as a game in its entirety? no. everyone is sick of totk because its just botw 2 and i get that entirely
I still like Tears of the Kingdom more
30:23 YES YOU DO IDIOT!
Why do you say you want to keep the conversation healthy, then proceed to Shit on totk
Ah yes, because we live in a world where critiquing something is the same as calling it dogshit trash that shouldn't exist. My bad, I forgot.
You din't just criticizing, you said you hope Nintendo Forgets about totk and just talks about botw. Totk doesnt require having played botw, and honestly, after this video, i don't want to, and i still got really invested in both the lore, and the gameplay itself. You also said about Several things you can't argue that it's beter than in botw, And Those Were THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE ENTIRE GAME. And you straight up lied by saying you can't upgrade the battery. Also, totk is Not linear, i did mineru first and had 0 problems.
EDGE?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!
BOTW focused on the moment, and TOTK focused on the story. I finished both main stories, but I’m still playing BOTW.
i agree with a lot of your points. my second playthrough i avoided unlocking towers, and only unlocked shrines on ground plane, and immensely a better experience. then later unlocked sky. i know that self imposed restriction doesn't work for many gamers, but made totk better than botw for me. i need to feel connected to the world
With TOTK, I genuinely got sick of having to build shit to get from A to B, especially of you have to back track and rebuild the same damn thing. Its an interesting mechanic, but ultimately it wrecks the game. BOTWs rune abilities are far more sontrained and fit better with the world. BOTWs gameplay has no urgency, you can check every rock, blade of grass, pond, do every side quest, you know Zeldas going to be just fine in that castle, no rush to get there. This can also lead to a feeling of boredom, or a lack of direction, there is so much to do, who cares about the plot, which really is just "Destroy Ganon" I'd take Sheika towers over the sky launch towers, yes, you can map the games shrines from the sky, but you can't glide nearly as far, which helps some to keep the paragliders ability in-check. Both games could benefit from having more NPCs about. This was a kingdom, and yes, the calamity happened, but the sizes of villages seem to be for 10-12 families at best, and lots of those have no destruction around them. Who built up this massive world, the bridges, towers etc.. it sure wanst a group of 100 or so people.
Tears of the Kingdom may feel like a reboot of Breath of the Wild in some ways, but I think that it improves on the points that would be the most important. It incorporates aspects that intrigue the Zelda veterans with aspects of fan-service, while also making those same exacts elements engaging to the new player. For example, the way that the TotK story ties into the overall timeline lore is something very interesting for longtime fans that would merely go over new players’ heads, but TotK presents its storyline in such a way that keeps even the newest fans gravitated. Those are what I perceive to be some of the strong suits of TotK, and it seemingly does very well in those areas. However, no game is perfect, and I think that TotK tends to be a bit too predictable at times for me. Granted, I have beaten BotW, along with at least 9 other Zelda games, but I sometimes feel as though I know the answer to a puzzle before the riddle is even finished being told in TotK. That’s certainly not to say that all puzzles are that way by any means, but I have found a lot of them to be that to me personally. Also, as was said in the video, the exploration does feel a bit too familiar having played BotW. Despite there being altered, mixed up, and new locations all over the map, the exploration can feel a bit repetitive. Actually, I don’t feel this way because of the new locations, but because they all fit a specific style. For example, a “new” location is usually a cave, chasm, sky island, or the altering of a place from BotW. After a while, the amount of exploration simultaneously begins to feel repetitive, overly abundant, or predictable by nature. Overall, I love TotK as a game, and believe that Nintendo did an excellent job with it. However, if there was one primary thing that I would change about it, is its predictably of certain elements such as puzzles and exploration.
I liked TOTK while playing it, but looking back on it, I personally feel so much animosity towards it now. Especially because I feel like it could’ve been so good but they fucked up so many other things that breath the wild did good and even did some stuff that BTW did bad even worse. The exploration is way worse, you got too much ability to just bypass anything, you got 2 fans and a stearing stick and the for thought to build a hover machine and you’ve won, it just isn’t as satisfying. The ability to have a fast hover vehicle and bypassing everything just ruins it for me, there’s no good reason to use a ground vehicle and climbing is pointless The in my opinion being able to fly should only be available through hot air balloons and rockets, and the only way to stear it should be be building an actual stearing system (ie. a fan that could rotate) and a steering stick and auto build shouldn’t exist. This would make it much harder to just bypass everything by making it so you have to build your vehicles every time and more expensive to create a flying vehicle. The depths is almost entirely shit. The great sky island is the only good sky area. I don’t want to keep going but my other gripes are: shit story, shitty characters, shitty presentation of the story (I know it’s the same as btw but somehow comes off way worse), link and Zelda are idiots, sage abilities system is awful, etc
Why does it sometimes say !blind in the corner?
@@BeatBassBros My whole playthrough was streamed on Twitch. I wanted to play through the whole game as absolutely blind as possible with no hand-holding, so, a prominent market permanently on-screen.
@@Plandiss oh nice

Yes~
Yes it is
I kind of want to slap you for having enough time to make a video like this while I have to actually have a life. And the fucking way you pronounce plateau.
TOTK peaks at tutorial then goes downhill all other islands suck ass
Breath of the Wild basically had the same boss 5 times, worse combat, and a much worse story. This game was a MASSIVE improvement over BotW. The real issue is open world's been a stale formula since 2019. Perhaps a 3rd in this world, then can we go back to how the Ocarina of Time to Skyward Sword formula was with certain aspects of Switch Zelda carried over.
Yet another Zelda fanboy idiot spouting idiotic nonsense.
True
the TotK towers just exaggerate BotW's problem I think the ability to climb almost any wall and glide from the start was a fundamentally bad decision for BotW and I hope these are either gated by progression or removed entirely in the next game
It's a masterpiece, but its not Breath of The Wild Also, totk's music was a beautiful, but botw's music is cool too.
Yeah... yes, yes, yes... you are right. BOTW is much better, MUCH BETTER than TOTK. BOTW has better art, temples, bosses, order, story and lore. The worst of TOTK is its lore and lack of continuity
while playing totk i intentionally handicapped myself. foot and horse traversal ONLY. makes exploring a little more rewarding but... at the same time... the in game rewards are usually trash. oh here's an item from botw. here's some armor from an amiibo. here's a weapon that's weaker than everything in your inventory...
