Here is a short thing I wrote on guitar to reflect how I've been feeling lately. Heavily inspired by the guitar techniques of Yvette Young and her band "Covet."

The Colour Out of Space by H.P. Lovecraft || Review
SPOLIER ALERT Felt like the end of the book was anti climactic. The whole books builds to this crescendo that ultimately gets skipped over once Summer gets knocked unconscious. I wanted one more chapter from Clover's perspective watching him implode completely as we were getting gradual pieces of that throughout the story. I wanted his reaction to his arrest and ultimately his failure. It felt like even though we found out he was committed to a mental institution that he got off easy because of the lack of his perspective shown at the end. I wanted panic from him, the realization that everything he was worked towards was collapsing around him and there was nothing more he could do to prevent it, we as the readers deserved that.
Wow!
The end got progressively disappointing like I’m here with a handful of pages left and I’m like “huh that’s weird wonder when ivy will finally take her down” then fast forward a bit only a few pages left and I’m like “what’s going on here” then I’m like bruh all that build up just for ivy not to get her justice like I was reading so excited for ivy to take iris down, it’s definetely AN ending but in my opinion it would’ve been a lot more enjoyable if the ending wasn’t abrupt and continued a bit longer.
Just wanted to let you know that your review was much appreciated by Scott. Scott passed away on April 8, 2024 from complications of lymphedema.
Joel, I'm so very sorry to hear this. While I didn't know him personally, he always had kind words for me when leaving comments. He was a great writer and I enjoyed his work very much. He also introduced me to your book Where There's Smoke, which I purchased a copy of, and will be doing a review of. If you could pass on my condolences to his family, that would be much appreciated. ❤
I completely agree! The book took way too long to get going with the plot, and the ending was so predictable from the start.
Not going to lie I sorta felt weird as a meme can cause Murder to be honest
Hmm... sounds interesting. I liked House Of Leaves ...
It'll be worth your time!
I think the sewing the lips shut is a code of silence, that they will not speak up or spill the beans about what they're about, and the fact that they only really take breaks by writing stuff down, means to me that the Ship of Theseus is the S. and the different sailors are different authors who are part of the S. but keep the ship sailing to fight the good fight against Vervoda, like how the real S. were fighting against Bouchard.
for me both Ship of Theseus, V. M Straka, and Jen and Eric's relationship is about the relations between labourers and capitalism. S is shanghaied into the S. with there being 19 sailors, and 19 is the number of S in the alphabet and how he gets caught up in these battles of labour unions against Vervoda the capitalist arms dealer. He even could be a story of V. M. Straka surviving his suicide attempt, and his name becoming used by the group of S. to help write their agendas of labourers against the capitalist arms dealer Bouchard. Jen and Eric are labourers whose work is being used by capitalists like Moody and Ilsa to try and make their own fame. The relationship between S and Sola, F.X Caldiera and V.M Straka and Eric and Jen are echoes of labourers finding love within their battle of labour versus capitalists, and how whether such relationships can be maintained with these battles of left wing versus right wing. Basically these stories are echoes of each other, the three layers being "character" with Ship of Theseus, "author" with V.M Straka, and "reader" with Eric and Jen, talking about layers of reality and repeating conflict between workers and employers, or labourers versus capitalists.
I have a question about the ending. So for new readers, beware. Only those who have read the book can reply, because again, the future conversation will have spoilers.
What's your question?
@@jeffreyscottreadsalot8854 Page 373-374 in my book, it's revealed that Sophie (not Iris) was hiding and scaring Ivy in the locker room, and apparently she and Ellie were manipulated to help Iris. I found the explanation vague on said pages. Why would Sophie do that? What did Ellie herself do? I didn't understand it. Maybe you will, if you have the book with you? Also, on the last page of the novel, Iris threatens to make Ivy look like the kiIIer, with dirt tracks. I didn't understand how she would do so. Maybe you can clarify?
What is the difference about Time patrols and Guardians of time? I got confused because they start the same in spanish, translated different but same introduction. I saw the original tittle in english but it was different.
In the first chapter, Summer goes through the playing field by the club, and Clover pulls her through the field to his car. Was it in the same direction from which Summer came? Because if Clover took her the same way she'd come, maybe the club would've been visible after they "walked" through the field? Also, do you guys think Clover would've hesitated to take Summer if, hypothetically, Kerri or Harold Dane (her elderly acquaintance) suddenly arrived at the park? That's like a boss preparing to yell at you until a customer shows up on time.
Does this guys hand get tired after holding the book up for 25minutes straight
I just received it from Amazon and excited to read it. This is the my 4th Natasha Preston. I read The Lake, The Fear, You are Mine, and less than half of The Twin. I'm not really counting The Twin as I have not finish reading it. From the titles I've read so far I don't have a favorite. Reading the prologue, The Cabin seems like Agatha Christie, And Then There Were One. Her newest book, The Dare is coming out in a few weeks I don't know if I'll read it. It doesn't seem too interesting. Unfortunately, as I was scrolling on another review I found out who the killer was in You Are Mine. I was really upset how people are just posting plots and revealing the ending. I really wish that your review did not reveal how the story ends. It's spoils it for people are reading the book. Thank goodness they did tell what the killer motives were. I was able to predict and was right.
My favorite might be the fear
I found out the Riley was the killer from another reviewer. They had posted who the killer was and it was upsetting to find out before I got to the part of the book that reveal who it was. I thought it was selfish for the character to kill almost all of her friends because Lylah wanted to be with her friends. The detectives were incompetent in how they could protect the kids. Riley was able to do what he wanted right under their noses.
I just finished the book and I KNEW IT ALL ALONG. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS OFF ABOUT THEM. (no spoilers 🥰)
Honestly, I hated Lylah the whole time reading it. She was literally goo goo eying Chacey-wacey for like more than half of the book when her literal friends were dead
I loved it just kinda wished it was more plot driven than her and Blake. It reminded me of horror movies 😂
I recently finished the twin and the fear and in the middle of the cellar, gotta love Natasha Preston
I recently read The Haunting, which basically follows the same narrative as The Island, The Fear, etc... find out who the killer is. i loved this book. Not a huge fan of The Island, though.
The Haunting is the next one of hers I'm going to read! Why didn't you like The Island?
Loved your intro! So creative!!
Thanks so much! :]
Thnx dude
Just finished The Fear. The ending was so unexpected but it was good. I'm in shocked. Izzy, Syd, and Amiyah have this super hero persona as if nothing can happened to them in the face of danger. I don't know if it's bravery or just plain stupidity.
I loved it as well! One of my favorites if I recall correctly
Her upcoming book The Dare is being released in May. I wonder if it will be as good as this one.
Sounds cool! I still have The Haunting on my list so I'll have to finish that before The Dare!
The Dare comes out late May so you have time. 😊
I was reading The Twin but it just drag on and on. I stopped bit when will return to it. I pick up The Fear and based on your review I'm excited to read it. I like your reviews as you do not include any spoiler alerts. Thanks for that.
You're welcome! Update me on what you thought of The Fear!
Just as The Lake there isn't much of character development.
Great video. Would love to see a top ten favourite books video, or a library tour in future. Have a good weekend.
The book “Fictions” by Jorge Luis Borges mined my reality for some long time. Specially with the tales “Circular ruins”, “The secret miracle”, “The library of Babel” and “Tlön, Uqbar Orbis tertius”… oh wth… the whole book is pure gold. But the curious thing is the ammount of layers in it. A second lecture blow your mind again in a whole different way. Third relecture and you have a problem. Read carefully, my advise.
Awesome thanks so much for the suggestions! Thanks for watching my videos!
Good review!
Great review
The Haunting is so good I’m still reading it I highly recommend it
I haven't started it yet but I did buy it!
I love it!
It's very compelling but the ending really got me.
Hi, I'm new to the channel. I just discovered it and I love it. Me personally, I don't read much but I'd like to start my journey. So please continue what you're doing, it's great content. <3
Thanks so much for watching! Thank you for the kind words! 😀
I take some issue with this book, and it has to do with how much the author changed about actual Scottish history (I've read a fair bit of it) for the sake of her narrative. It is a powerful, and immersive read, no doubt, but don't take the story as anywhere close to historically accurate. I DNFed the second book.
I'll admit that I'm not familiar with the history at all, but thank you for the heads up! I don't read historical fiction that much, but I would assume that the author would probably change some things around. Thanks for watching! ☺
this is the only ivy and iris.
oh you're good.
yes! I was so disappointed with the final book I ended up only giving 2.5/5 to it. I agree with what you said about the confusing times and random characters. Neal Shusterman is so good at setting up tension, when I read the rules Goddard had put into place I was genuinely so nervous for the world but then for some reason the stakes never seemed high and there was never really a point where we saw how that affected everything (mostly we were just told that it wasn't good). Citra and Rowan got put in the background and both their characters just fell flat in this book. ALSO one of my biggest gripes with the book is that Goddard is made out to be basically a psychopath when the Thunderhead SPECIFICALLY said that he rid psychopathic tendencies from people???? IG you could argue that the thunderhead can't do anything about it since it's scythe business, but Goddard showed signs from when he was a little kid???? IDK I'm just glad someone else experienced similar things, great video!
Thanks so much! Scythe still remains in my top 10 books, and sadly I just pretend that the other two don't really exist, even though I gave them decent scores. There was so much potential with the council and how they govern the Scythes. I could read an entire "boring" book where they discuss policies in a government-style setting if that book was ever written; it truly fascinated me. I picked up Gleanings, which is his next book in the series but is more of a collection of short stories, which I forgot about until just now haha. Have you read Gleanings? I haven't read it yet.
@@jeffreyscottreadsalot8854 I agree! no i haven't read gleanings and probably never will as i was so disappointed with the last book.
@@curry_is_so_goof I would read gleanings if I were you, I read it and I think it's a good book with most of the stories in it being fun to read, and for the couple that aren't you can just skip those ones. So I would say it's definitley worth a read.
@@Dungeon_Dunce2011 I'll look into it! I'm not as mad as I was when I first finished the series haha it'd be fun to jump back into the world
Is there anything inappropriate for a middle schooler?
Possibly. I would probably compare it to like a PG-13 movie.
thanks ! Helped me in my school project
That's wonderful! Keep up the great work!
Book was amazing. So good. Movie was extremely disappointing compared to the book.
Yeah. There's so much in the book that would be difficult to translate into a movie though. I do understand why they made the changes they did in the movie, even though the book was much better!
I am currently reading this book, I also think that I will read the rest of the books. Thank you for the review 😊😊
Let me know how they are! Thanks for watching my video!
The main character is reflection of ppl who like take out their internal anger on weaker person (women & children) and went around thinking their action is noble whilist they are actuall disgusting human being..
amazing review. this is my first chapter book and i also cried. it was so emotional.
Thanks for watching! Natasha Preston also has some other great books, including You Will Be Mine and The Island!
Good review
Thank you!
Any time
The cast how I imagined it: Fill = Young Tom Cruise. Ankit = Jessica Henwick. Kaev = Conor McGregor. Soq = Elliot Page. Martin Podlove = John Hurt. Massaraq = Tyra Banks. Ora = Tilda Swinton. I often use celebrities to imagine the characters in a novel.
I'm like half way throw and soo exited
How does this one compare to other Preston books you've read?
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home sick Canadian living abroad thanks. Come back.
I had a wonderful time! Thanks for watching my video. Last time I was there was probably 20 years ago. I had a great weekend there!
I’m halfway through the book, it’s only 200 pages so I thought I’d get through it fine but by god, the humor just ain’t hitting. By chapter 12 I feel like nothing of substance has happened other than the enciting incident. The descriptions of the vogons go on a bit too much and are too exaggerated, it’s like what a child would find hilarious. Many adults have told me I’d like it but I think as a 17 year old I might not understand the humor. Maybe you guys can give me some hope that it will get better but honestly, I’m let down.
It is SO GOOD!!! Kaladin is one of my favourite characters of all time. Enjoy the ride! I love his world building and the spren just get better. I started reading Sanderson with They Way of Kings and don’t regret it. One tip, don’t worry about the intro lines with the dates. I tried to understand what that was about and you will learn later. Tress is a really cute standalone book so feel free to pick it up.
I am really enjoying it so far! Has Sanderson said how many books will be in the Stormlight Archive?
@@jeffreyscottreadsalot8854 5 in the front half and then another 5.
