I grew up in the outdoors - wandering around in the Australian bush was just what I did throughout my childhood and adolescence. One of my earliest memories is boiling a child made billy over an open fire I lit myself - I was probably not older than ten. The best fish I have ever eaten was cooked my Aboriginal aunty from Groote Eylandt. Does this make me an expert - absolutely not! It does make me an enthusiast and it is that enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits and the kit we use that makes this channel tick. It is a collection of ideas and opinions but it is also an appeal to you to get out and do it for yourself.
I welcome comments from all who take the time to watch my videos - I have found that the flow of ideas and inspiration is two way and I am grateful for the friends I have made here.
Wishing you every blessing,
Steve

Fitting FuelX Lite to 2022 Himalayan - Where to Locate the Controller? Solved!!
After fitting a new exhaust system an update to the fuelling system seemed to be in order but this not just upjetting the carburettor. It's not complicated but finding a suitable home for the little black box proved a conundrum - for a while. Then came the inspiration - dead space no longer.

Thanks for the post-trip review. Really impressed you were able to fly with wll your kit to the US. Completely agree with you about the saute pan in hard anodised finish - that would be really worthwhile. I appreciate the content, and subscribed. Thank you, Paul
I have used buck knives all my life and never a problem with a good grip on the handle . It always seemed the wetter it got , the better the grip .
I agree. It was something your hear about and to that end I thought it was worth a video. Which Bucks do you have?
@@fadingmargins , ua-cam.com/users/shorts3K9GkHixKaU?si=PL3ZU-3pxzwql5eW
Are these available to buy in uk?
@@liztaylor3219 I think you would need to get in touch with Don at Four Dog Stoves and see if he would be willing to ship over here. Do you have a chum state side?
@@fadingmargins sadly I don’t have any American friends. I rather guessed it might be US only. Not to worry I do have a Trangia set so it would be a want not a need! Thank you for your reply - love watching your videos. I might contact Don but the postage would probably be more than the stove!
Powered hum to that bike Steve
She is a bit of a pussy cat really. A noisy purr but no claws
Nice work, buddy!
Thank David, I am still asking myself why I did it but I guess boys will be boys.
Very badass and beautiful patina ( on the Dexter Russell Hunter), sir
I appreciate it - thank you! It is semi-permanent, last long enough for the natural patina to take hold.
Bore
No, actually I had been trimming the wiring sheath in preparation for recovering but you are right an SAK has a fine awl for drilling.
Classy little blade. A blade like this or an Victorinox tool are perfect for some trout or game work.
I like it, though I still have to source the trout and game - thanks for stopping by.
Glad you enjoy Yellowstone. I used to live near the north entrance of the park in the early 2000's. Theres so many other places to go see around the park boundary in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming.
I miss the whole region everyday!
You are in my neck of the woods about 45min east near lookout pass.
Trangia 25 is an nice piece of kit.
They certainly do what it says on the tin. Not always the most romantic but like the SAK of cookware.
I have to say it again... I really enjoy your content. Please keep going. Great stuff. I like your pacing ...relaxing and stuff we like 👍👊💥
I am touched and grateful for you feedback. It is very timely - thank you!
Cool product suite. Agree on the fuel in the burner. After use and cooled down I fill and seal mine to be ready to go for the next use. No mucking about.
Don makes some first class gear! One step ahead is the way to go!
Enjoyed the unvarnished and straight talk. Had to go watch your 4DS Bushcooker 2 one to find out what you used the Trangia burner in.
I am grateful for the feedback and hope you'll hang about for more
The wings on the adapter are so the isobutane can sits in the correction position if its on its side. Those cans are deigned only to work in one orientation if on their side and are often marked with an orientation arrow. Its so they feed only gas not liquid or worse still a coughing mixture of the two. The wrong orientation with give stutters and flair-ups. Having a preheater tube, as your Trangia gas burner does, also helps if the isobutane can is putting out an incorrect mix. BTW I use a similar Trangia 25 set-up but with the Chinese clone burner and isobutane.
I have another stove that has wings for cold weather - doesn't work on this trangia model...
The douk douk takes the most wicked edge out of any knife I own. Insanely slicy.
You said it my friend - when you know the history wicked edge is pretty apt.
I like it. Classic looks.
Thanks mate! it's okay, not my favourite but an honourable mention. You doing okay down in the SW?
@@fadingmargins doing great amigo and we are keeping the light on for you when you come back

Friction tape works well also.
It's funny because having made this video I use mine naked but I would think friction tape would be very effective.
Any chance you want to sell the Mora. I collect them and don't have that one. Thanks.
Send me an email and we can talk about it.
Love a simple folder. And spear points are timeless.
They are tough to beat. If you're packing an SAK then a single blade classic is plenty along with your third knife
Getting old is no fun Steve , lovely little knife thanks for sharing All the best Mick
Speak for yourself my friend, I will have you know I am in my prime! I know this because my sons bought me a tee-shirt that says so...😆 Did you find any takers for your hexi? Don't answer that

That is perhaps the ideal adjective! Thanks Vinnie!
That's a really handsome knife👍Rustic and classy at the same time! Cheers, buddy!
It's a sweet thing indeed. Hope you're doing well over there David!
A wonderful carry choice in any location. Simplicity has a beauty all its own.
How are things Mo. I see you're getting plenty of woods time...never enough eh?
I believe your evaluation would be helpful and appreciated.
I appreciate your kind feedback - cheers!
I broke my phone. Hopefully will be back in action on Monday
Welcome back my friend.
Love/hate with the BK9. I think it really was a stupid idea to skeletonize the handle stock. Makes zero sense to make a hard use tool weaker by removing structural material (even in the handle). I have seen the BK9 break at that weak point, that's why. I e-mailed Kabar to see if they would consider a non-skeletonized version. They said no plans. You would think that it would actually be cheaper to produce by skipping that step of removing metal. It's a good knife. Would I trust my life on it, no.
I have to be honest I cannot imagine what you would have to do to break a BK9. Do you think there was perhaps a fault in the particular knife?
@fadingmargins I think the guy was batoning it which, again, is abuse of a knife in my opinion. I never do that. Use an axe for that intended purpose. So I think he hit the handle and it broke. There is fire wood all over the forest floor to burn so batoning is absolutely pointless to me.
He must have really hit it, but even so it sounds like a warranty claim to me. I am 100% with you on batoning. Small kindling production aside
Back in the early 1070s I bought a folded steel knife like that on a fishing trip up in the Adirondak's of NYS. iirc it was called an Uncle Wiggly. Handy little knife but I considered it a cheap tackle box knife compared to all the nicer folders out there. I've no idea what ever happened to it and now wish I still had it.
Ahh well we have all been there - sounds like you need a DD...
We could never forget you mate!
You big softy!
Nice little literature lesson 👍🏻
Like yourself I am always tickled by the connections with the past.
That knife looks awesome!👍Have a great weekend, my friend!
Thank David, all the very best mate!
Very nice video. I for one really loved your BK16 modification. The BK16 is one of my favorite knives. You have me ready to read Beowulf. Get well. zane
Wow thanks! Beowulf is good stuff!
Hey Steve, there is nothing like a solid piece of well ground carbon steel. Looks like a real work horse. Best wishes from the east coast USA.
Thanks Joseph, you are spot on about that. BTW did that stuff arrive finally?
Nice knife indeed Steve
For what they go for today - it ought to be - it is very fine if a little on the hefty side.
Thanks for the reminders of these basic tools
You're very welcome. The everyday stuff is often more interesting I think
I think that looks pretty cool you did a good job
Cheers Sixgun - high praise - thank you!
Do a review on that east German what I think is 1⁄2 shelter
Now there's an idea - I would never use them as a shelter myself - I'll give that some thought.
@@fadingmargins Cool !!
Scissors are definitely the right tool for cutting threads and other fine work. I prefer the little scissors on the 58mm keychain SAKs. And then I add something else as my "actual knife".
I love the distinction. Me, I just live with the duplication as I am not always with my keys. Your logic is of course unassailable.
Those handle scales look awesome, buddy! Nicely done!
They are not as slick as the video makes them but they are functional and I think that is in the spirit of KABAR.
Beautiful knife!
Thanks very much mate - I appreciate the kind feedback.
You certainly made it your own Steve
I am no artisan but I try and it works now - so I am not unhappy with the results.
Tidy job. Always good to make something more user friendly.
To good a tool not to make it fit! Delighted to see you're still about mate. The hills must be greening up up there by now eh?
Very nice modifications. I am tempted to do likewise. zane
It's a great knife, IMHO let down be the handle - KABAR ought to have used the same handle as the BK9 et al. Would love to see the result if you do
The climber is one that I don't have in my collection yet, but I'd like to get one. I do carry the super tinker quite often. Cheers, buddy!
Funny think David is that I bought the Super Tinker but never carry it - you would love the Climber!
Climber for me😊
I would expect nothing less.
There is a SAK for every occasion
and every pocket, pack or pouch - you got to love em!
I carry the huntsman out and about without realising for the same reasons you carry the climber the 2 blades and the scissors But also the saw , love the saw All the best Mick
From time to time I change the Ranger out for the Huntsman - almost never feel under tooled.
My edc is my faithful huntsman, for the reasons you’ve pointed out 2 blades , scissors but also the saw , l love the saw All the best Mick
Huntsman is a fine tool and just small enough for the pocket too - beats the Ranger on pocket portability
