Alan Howard was a Street character that I never ever liked, even as a child when this episode aired. As his character unfolded my initial gut feelings about him were confirmed as he eventually turned nasty and took it out on Elsie, his future wife.

What a depressing show! I'm American and I'm old enough to remember our soap operas then--but I don't remember anything like this. Lazy, crooked man wanting to defraud workers' comp, all filmed in that strange British TV lighting back then where everything was lit from the ceiling, giving an odd brownish color.

Ray and Ken never really got on they just about tolerate each other here. Such a startling transformation in Ray from being very young here in ‘69 to old before his time( and sick with it) during the comeback episodes of 2005, may be that’s what living in Vegas does to you over time lol

This was so touching, and with music. Coronation Street today, in a word, is Dark, just like Emmerdale. Take both off and screen these again. Ena from Corrie and Annie from Emmerdale Farm, plus Amos, would be applaud!!!!
