Share the journey of an almost 50 man going from Fat to Fit. We have checked off the first Ironman in Cairns 2024, now we are setting the sights higher, aiming for 10% body fat and a high course finish in The Celtman 2025 (in Scotland). It's a big goal and you can watch every step along the way, the highs and lows with a guarantee that I share it all. So enjoy and don't forget to ask me anything along the way.

Fat to Ironman Triathlon Episode 54 (5 Weeks to Go) - New Ice bath, watch and Shoes
Awesome job! This reminds me of the Jones Beach 70.3 we did back in 2023. It had a similar course, choppy water, and a flat but windy bike.
It's funny how similar some of these courses can be! Glad I did it though
I know this is an old vid, I’m working my way through from the start - and I happen to be doing the same for Fergus’s channel too! I had to comment because the video I watched before this one was where he first announced Omnia - what are the odds of that! Loving watching your progress.
That is funny, the good old UA-cam algorithm at work hope you enjoy it all
Fantastic ! Congratulations.
Many thanks!
Amazing well done 🎉
Thank you! 😊
Excellent work, watched you on the tracker for the whole event. You inspire me so much that i signed up for the Cairns full ironman again in 2025. That will be my third Cairns ironman in a row, keep up the good work and keep inspiring others.
That is amazing, Cairns is a tough one! Thanks for the support. We will have to catch up there next year
I have been waiting for this update!! I did as much dot-watching as I could during the race (from the central US) and I could see that you had finished and that your pacing seemed OK, but without knowing the conditions on the day and how you were actually doing, it was impossible to get a read on how the race was really shaking-out. First congratulations. In some ways, while the conditions dictated that you did not have the super-fast time I am sure you were hoping for, the ultimate result was probably better. You took challenging conditions and were able to turn them into a strong day! Having watched you from the start, I am in some ways as impressed or even more impressed with you at this point than when you completed your full IM. Completing the full IM given your starting point and your journey was amazing, however, seeing how you have kept on with your training and progress and have continued to make consistent strides forward is a testament to your true character. After such as huge accomplishment as the full IM, I am sure it would have been far too easy to just begin to coast and stagnate. You haven not done that, you have continued to double-down and chase gains aggressively. That is significantly impressive! Finally, your video production and editing are continuing to improve. You are getting much better at creating and building suspense in your teasers about upcoming announcements....you always leave me anticipating the next video!
Thanks so much for the support, it means a lot to hear you were watching! You will appreciate it the announcement next week for sure, not slacking off for me 🤣 thanks for sticking with me so far through the whole thing.
I appreciate your videos and candor. The difference in your attitude, progression, and body comp are noticeable episode to episode. 🙌 My dream is to do IM NY 70.3 this year. It’s 9 months out. Struggling a bit with confidence and some of the things you share.
I appreciate that! You can do it, confidence is just the evidence you will see in your training as you get into it. Once you start making some progress the confidence will come
Great work mate. I did my 14th IM in Busso and that swim was horrendous. Also, agree that anything but the full feels anti-climatic, which keeps drawing me back to do the full!
Totally agree, 14 seems like a big number well done. Thanks for the support
Well played Shayne … another milestone on your journey
Thanks for the support
Thanks 🙏 for uploading, that Swim & Ride was full on 🤢
Yeah it was a bit gnarly out there!
Well done mate, great to meet you there the day before the race too and have a chat outside transition. Been going to Busso for 10 plus years and that was near on the worst swim we have ever had. First full IM for me this year, you are right that second bike lap was horrendous with rain storm and wind but we got through it and made it to the end 😊. Congratulations on a great race mate.
Thanks, yeah that swim was rough! Great to meet you too, good to hear you survived the full IM!
I did my second full at Busso last Sunday, I just assumed the weather would be good, but man was I wrong. I reckon I hit my head on virtually every buoy out there trying to maintain my line of sight. The bike was an hour longer thanks to the wind and rain, plus my husband thought I had a pretty good shot at actually dying out there and looked genuinely worried when he finally saw me with 3kms left to run 😂 These things are hard enough to do with good weather, but adverse weather makes it next level hard. Glad you had a good race, your time is really good considering the conditions. Now you know you can race in anything if you can survive that! Good work👏🏻👏🏻
Great job you earned that medal for sure, thanks for the support
Well Done , another great achievement . 6 plus hours of running cycling swimming is pretty awesome 💪👍
Thanks 👍
Well done
Thank you
Well done on the middle (half) distance IM. I have done a couple and honestly they are really fun, compared to the full. But yeah, not a big enough challenge to seriously motivate a lot of training.
Yeah definitely fun, but I am already looking at the next thing.
@TakeTheNextRight doing a half in Asia is a real challenge with that heat. I did Cebu before Cairns and lost all confidence 😆
6.20 is a great result, regardless of conditions. Well done.
Yeah, pretty happy with that.
Well done getting it done in tough conditions
Thanks always rewarding to get things done when they don't go to plan.
congrats mate! lovely to meet you and have a chat
Thanks so much it was great to meet you too!
Interesting info on cold plunge.. you tube channel Physionic 😢
I will check it out thanks
Well done
Hey Shayne, I tracked you through the race and was stoked to see the finish time. Well done mate; Celtman here you come!
Thanks for the support looks
Congratulations Shayne, fantastic time. Your really smashing it 👏💪🥇
Thanks so much!!
Congratulations on your finish! I’ve never seen a bike racked with rubber bands instead of directly by the bars or saddle. What is the purpose of doing it that way?
Thanks! 👍 not rubber bands but zip ties, it’s because the handle bars don’t reach without them
Congratulations Shawn, the swim was very tough conditions but you did it & your bike was awesome. Overall be pleased, there's more to come .
Thanks 👍
Great video again. Saw you finished - Congratulations! Swim conditions looked tough.💪
Thanks 👍
Which bike bag were you using?
Scicon it worked great except had to take bars off
I did enjoy this video! Good luck, all your hard work makes you a winner already. 🎉
Thanks so much!! Appreciate that, was tough conditions today at busso
Best of luck mate.
Thanks mate
Go Shayne!!!!!
Thank you
Can't wait to hear the chat between you and Brody as I follow him as well.
It went well should have it ready soon
Good luck on Sunday, you've got this, will be watching the race and tracking you all the way from Spain.
Wow thank you
just found this and it is just the inspiration I need, cheers mate
Thanks mate sign up today and get on it
Awesome update & your sounding really positive. Good luck for the 70.3
Thank you! Feeling pretty good
Good luck in the competition! Will you do the run in carbon plate shoes?
No carbon shoes, saving that for marathon
@TakeTheNextRight just out of curiosity, why? you have a super bike and other gadgets but you don't have super shoes... you can easily gain a lot of speed.
Loving that drone. The shots are epic. Il have to look at getting one. Keep up the good work 👌
You should! Very handy
Cant wait to see your drone follow you up Castle Hill when you are doing hill repeats on the bike!
Can't wait! 😛
Great work! The drone looks fun 🤩
Thanks! 😀it is
@ I kinda want one but have no need for it 😂
I don't your RPM is correct in Zwift
Yeah it was out sometimes I’m not sure why
14:08- another warning. Wait until the week after the week after to start having a crack at all your PB benchmarks. A HIM will take it out of you, especially at our age. But 10 days after one you should be ready. Maybe have a crack at one a week until xmas before ramping up the volume again.
Yeah I have a 3000km drive to do a few days after Busso so it will be 10 days at least I would think. haha
12:19- warning! From experience, you should also pack some back up nutrition - I’d suggest 2 x PF90 gels in the back pocket or bento box (maybe with a couple of caffeine 30s for that bit extra boost as needed. Otherwise I am loving the BTA biddon cage/bike computer mount option. One further ‘hot tip’ - add rubber bands to your cages to prevent your BTA and rear bottles dropping out over bumps / speed humps during the race. Also something I’ve learnt from via bitter experience. All the pros are doing this now so that they can carry their whole nutrition and hydration (thus avoiding having to slow for aid stations and missing their bottles) AND also the rubber bands - so they don’t lose any nutrition or hydration OR get pinged for an ‘unintentional littering’ penalty. Ive been running with rubber bands since I lost all of my flow gel 2km into the 120km ride at Townsville WC this year. Haven’t had any problems since (and I’ve tested this extensively in training and race conditions).
There are a few rough roads around here so the security of the bottles is pretty good. I do Have alternate plan for the fuel in the form of 30g gels.
@ rubber bands are just so easy to use. It’s a no-brainer redundancy. I wish i thought of it before Townsville. I’ve found that best and cheapest hack is to use rubber bands in the form of hair ties
It is indeed a Silverback!
Yeah turned out good in the end
A great video, another great week and some awesome Strava art! An Ironman beast and a modern artist, who would have thought?
I will have to add that to my profile, haha
Great update. Looking strong in your sessions. Enjoy taper week
Thank you! Will do!
Great job with the strava art Shayne. Loving the T shirts, 😂 more cowbell always required.
More to come!
very inspiring stuff
Thankyou
Good job racing. I find it's a nice mental change from a structured workout. Helps to really push you.
Yeah it’s nice to not know exactly what will happen
Well done on your first effort. That climb is no joke. I've been on zwift a while but not tried a race. Will give it a go now. (Without the climb!)
Yeah it was fun in a terribly way but I will be back
Congrats 👍🤙Ven Top is really a Hard Mission. What is the size of your ( Zwift) Monitor ?
Very! It a 50inch tv nice
Yikes, ven top as your first race! I’ve done almost 840 and have yet to do that one! Inspiring !
I love jumping in the deep end…
That's awesome!
Thanks! Feels like I’m getting there
