    Ray tracing is great but the benefits don't seem to be there yet, like making games faster to develop, games are taking longer than ever to make now. There is still a while to go, by that time it should run better and every hardware should support ray tracing. I like to have RT on , but usually on the low or medium setting if the game lets you choose. The games with Software RT are also good enough for me, like UE5 games. I don't find myself looking at reflections or puddles or shadows so I don't need the highest quality of RT, just having it on low or medium is fine. As you said the frame rate is more important, especially with high refresh rate screens. I have been playing Warhammer Darktide recently and that game has some nice looking RT, but because it's a multiplayer FPS game, you don't get to stop and appreciate the puddles or reflections, and you need higher FPS, so it's just better to have it off in that case or put it on Low.

      Contrary to what I show in the videos, I like High FPS and I usually adjust settings to have around 80 FPS average. If I can get that with RT enabled then all good, if not then that is the first thing I disable

    Im 100% sure next Gen GPU will be underwhelming . Max 40% improvement in AlanWake2 to maybe 4k50 PT . @3:37 Ghostwire looks diff bc Rainy Street and later in the day. In CP2k7 its to bright bc they had to program also non RT Lighting. So if they ONLY PROGRAM RT lighting they could make street Lights darker. CDPR Dev explained that.

      I totally agree with your performance prediction. I do hope that there will be better performance at lower prices, as I feel that if low priced GPUs are able to handle RT or PT then most games will start to implement it

    I prefer max visuals, but I want to get above 60 FPS at 1440p. I think that people that are looking for high FPS are the ones that play shooters and competitive games as opposed to people who focus only on single player games. Just look at consoles. You have 60 FPS at best and lower visuals, nobody is complaining.

    In Cyberpunk 2077, where it says Native No RT, actually it's with DLSS, 3:55. I just saw after I released the video. Ray tracing and Path tracing is killing performance, with some better lighting effects. Let me know in the comments below what type of gamer are you: High FPS or Max Visuals?

    Not sure if anyone caught on, but when you turn on raytracing at 4k especially, the cards perform SIGNIFICANTLY better than at native (no RT) 4k in some games, particularly Dragons Dogma 2. So either you're using some super hefty upscaling beyond what is listed in the settings, or something is amiss.

    • @casuallygamin9
      @casuallygamin9 4 дні тому

      But you can see in the settings that I'm using upscaling and it's also added in the chart, on the chart title. The reason that I did this for RT is without upscaling some games will have really low FPS, especially on the 7900 XTX. Also, as it can be seen using upscaling in some newer games you can enable RT and have better performance than on Native and RT OFF. The biggest issue is that modern games are built with upscaling in mind, which is a pity as I believe that Native still produces the best image quality if the TAA implementation is done right

  • @lithari1480
    @lithari1480 4 дні тому

    Well, people now-a-days would be using Frame Generation....also, AMD cards tend to fare better without upscaling compared to Nvidia Cards.

    • @casuallygamin9
      @casuallygamin9 4 дні тому

      Unfortunately for frame generation to deliver a good experience you need the game to run above 60fps, and don't have multiple dips below that. I think that framegen is not a solution to increase performance when it's low :(

    Thank you for reviewing, both are useless for majority common pc gamers. An over priced 4070 or 7900xt are great, a 7800xt or 7900GRE are the best this gen for price to performance but keep in mind the reality is more than 90% of diy pc gamers still 960/ 1060/1660 supers and currently 5700xt and 6700xt GPUs so this means nothing in reality. My entire guild just switched to 7800xt GPUs this last year and yet we still hear how the 3060 and 4060 are the most used when in reality steam bases their GPU stats in individual users not owners meaning wifi cafes using 3060 and 4060 gpus using 1080p still clock the most "owned" even though renters are not owners. At first I thought all 27 of us (my guild) must have been an phenom until we cross checked reality to find out no can compete with wifi cafes in China as there are 1.2 million internet cafes meaning there is that many 3060/4060 in use and no tech fluencer gives the reality of cards in actual use. I do appreciate you using these cards even though they are not used with the actual 550/5600x build most would use them with if they could afford it and they cant.

    There must be something wrong with your setup when running AMD. That mangohud frametime graph for the 7900XTX is atrocious. I've had some weird issues before while on fedora and nobara with my 7900XTX, which is why I left, but this is beyond what I remember. On my current config on Nixos, my frame time graph is for the most part flat (with exception of asset streaming stutter and shader compilation ofcourse, cant solve that with hardware), when compared to the same games displayed here (cyberpunk, BL3 and Dying Light 2). The 7000 series has some issues with the kernel driver, where its not completely drawing the amount of power it should be (in my case it fails to draw 350w). As far as I know this hasnt been fixed. Its advised to set the power limit manually either through the terminal or with a utility like corectrl. Regardless of the end result, if the frametime graph is to be believed, AMD is basically nonviable in this comparison, which is simply not the case as I can attest to. Average FPS is meaningless, when your average frame time graph has scoliosis. What DE did you install? What protocol are you using, wayland or X11? Which Proton verison are you running? How are you recording? Is the GPU receiving enough wattage? Did you perform a clean install? There are many variables unaccounted for this comparison. I have essentially the same rig (7800X3D, 32GB CL 30 6000MHZ RAM, 7900XTX, 1300w Seasonic PSU), I can reliably say that I've never experienced such a juddery frametime graph. And while my compositor of choice is neither gnome or KDE, but Hyprland, these compositors dont really have large discrepancies when it comes to performance. Even back then before this video released and I was still running nobara 39 with gnome, I my frame timegraph were basically flat bessides some weird fedora specific spikes here an there (caused by SELinux I think). I recommend giving Opensuse a try. Nixos is great, but its for enthusiast users and developers like myself.

      @@casuallygamin9 Great to hear that. While nobara is great, I've experienced a fair number of issues, especially with frame time consistency with my 7900XTX (6900XT ran fine), though as I said, not to the same extend as portrait in this video. Must be some kind of weirdness inherited from fedora. I recommend maybe giving opensuse tumbleweed a try, since it uses app armor instead of SELinux, if you havent already, also its a great rolling release. Either way, keep up the good work. If you're not doing so already (first video I've seen), I suggest adding 1% lows and 0.1% lows into your graphs, since they show how how much the frametime graph varies. I recommend taking a look at gamers nexus on the subject.

    Good work bro, can you check if the power consumption stats are correct on Nobara? Because they just seem too good to be true. At 10:07 for example, the 7900 XTX is only using 225 watts on Linux while it matched the windows performance where it was consuming 358 watts. If that is not a bug, Mesa Driver team did the unthinkable but, I am just gonna assume its a bug for now and wait for verification. Other than that, I was not expecting the Star Wars Outlaws and Ratchet and Clank RT result of it matching the windows drivers. Just insane to think just two years ago RT was experimental on these drivers. Hopefully, this is just the start. Also, another suggestion I have for Ratchet and Clank testing is to test it in the Jungle planet. I forgot what it is called but, that planet seems to hate RTAO because it kills the performance of GPUs there. Perfect for testing in my opinion.

    • @casuallygamin9
      @casuallygamin9 9 днів тому

      When it comes to power consumption it seems that the GPU was consuming less on Linux than on Windows, but this was patched with the latest kernal update. It's a bit strange though as I have a power meter socket and I never checked it property, but I saw a 15w difference in power consumption between Windows and Linux. I never investigated property though as I don't have a tool to measure the power consumption directly on the GPU. I know that there is an area where performance drops to around 40 FPS when using RT on the 7900 XTX, it was in a forest with a lot of frogs, but I don't know how to go back to that area :). I think it doesn't matter the area, as I believe that the GPU will behave the same.

    I think that the GPU market is heading in the wrong direction. Contrary to what most people think, more VRAM is better. Just try to play with high texture settings and compare the performance to when you set it to low. You'll see that the performance drop is minimal, but the texture quality is huge. Imagine if entry level GPUs would start with 12 gb of VRAM. We would see better looking games. Another issue is that game developers are stupid and support the old GPU generation, like the 1000 series from Nvidia. To have better graphics we need to move the latest Directx version and stop supporting the previous versions GPUs that are not DrectX 12 Ultimate. I'm curious how many owners of the GTX 1000 series buy triple AAA games that were released. We need GPUs with more memory so we have high quality texture. I would love to see better optimization as I hate those stutters with good hardware. What's the point of getting good hardware, the best GPU if all games stutter like crazy.

    • @casuallygamin9
      @casuallygamin9 15 днів тому

      I totally agree that more VRAM is better. The issue is that Nvidia is releasing GPUs with low VRAM capacity, as the 5070 is rumored to have 12gb. I think that the gaming industry is moving forward with upscaling and this helps a bit with relaxing the memory needs. But high quality texture require more VRAM, so only GPU vendors can help with this. Hopefully Intel and Amd will release competitive products soon.

    • @ThePhenoix504FI3D1
      @ThePhenoix504FI3D1 15 днів тому

      The issue is when people can fix vram hog by adjusting to optimal settings without losing quality. People complain about vram capacity since they tend to set the settings' bar high all the time. nonetheless, NVIDIA are providing the utmost minimum for their product which is why I'm switching to AMD.

      @ionutzamfir4969 15 днів тому

      @@ThePhenoix504FI3D1I agree. What I meant to say is that high texture costs less performance than VRAM. We need more VRAM so that new games don't look the same as 5 years ago. I moded Cyberpunk 2077 with higher quality texters, and the visuals have improved
