CafeSing Orca Hand Grinder Review
CafeSing's Orca grinder ships with two burr sets that can be changed by hand without the use of tools. A ghost burr set for brewed coffee, and flat burr set for espresso. Is this the future of hand grinders?

Home Barista vs Pro - Dialing in Espresso With Cat & Cloud
Coming from an Eureka Specialita, the df grinds my 19g in a quarter of time as the Specialita did, so the noise doesn't bother me too much with the trade off.
Lance hedricks 1 to 1 brew method has been my go to with light roasts coffees like sey or ilse. Using a ZP6 it is fantastic
I think the main issue is the brewer, ceramic brewers won’t heat up as fast as the plastic or metallic ones. Also it’s much harder to swirl with them. Try using a plastic brewer you will notice that swirling is much much easier
I changed the fuse in kettle but still won't heat up my water. :( it's got same issue. Base turn on, read temperature, I can set temperature. When I put it in it clicks. But won't heat the water. It stays at cold water temperature
Me too! His technique led to a cup that tasted like an Americano. The World Cup recipe worked great
if you spend nearly $200 on an electric kettle, you're a certified asshat.
I have this exact same problem with my Timemore Fish, ( I even hear the same switch when turning it on, but it doesn't heat at all ) So I hope this fix works,
I don't think the JHoffman method calls for multiple swirlings. He only said to swirl at the end of the bloom phase and that was it. Maybe that was why you encountered such difficulty?
Will this work with a Lelit Mara X?
which burrs emphasize body and sweetness? 1:18
we all love coffee i know lmao
i'm not surprised my kid is good at carpentry cause of him 😅
Simple math: $165 kettle, 2 year warranty, $82.5 per year to have a kettle that works. After that, the company tells you to buy a new one if anything goes wrong. Utterly absurd.
*too

Never buying a Fellow product. They're just form and advertising over function.
Just a thought - you certainly do NOT want to leave your aeropress sitting with the edge of the rubber cap compressed inside the chamber, as it will lose it's ability to seal firmly when making coffee. Either push it all the way through, or pull it all the way out.
I also settled on an adaptation of Tetsu's V60, with a couple tweaks. Generally, I find that putting the little divot in the dry bed before the bloom (as Hoffman suggests) is not only unnecessary, that by doing so it requires more water during the bloom than it it were just left flat. I usually do 25 grams coffee to 375 water, striving for as little water as necessary during the bloom to wet the grounds and keep them relatively loose enough to swirl. I find 60 grams of water usually is enough for 25 grams of coffee. Then, for the second pour, I pour up to 150 grams, then 75 grams each for the remaining 3 out of five total pours. Anecdotally, I find the shorter pour during the bloom (60 grams) in comparison to the second pour (90 grams) increases sweetness, as Tetsu clams. Aside from that, it's just a matter of turbulent vs. laminar flow in pouring adjusted on the fly for the rate at which the water draws down. FWIW, I'm usually brewing single origin light roast coffees from Wendelboe.
Is that a certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers back there?
Is the "Standard Industry Practice" being scumbags to people that paid a premium for your disposable products? I hate regulation with a passion but if companies keep this trend up I hope they get regulated into bankruptcy and we get a reset on the whole consumer electronics industry. I have a ~30 year old grinder made in Romania, by a "state owned" factory, it still works and only the cable was replaced on it. It makes a hell of a noise, but still works. These hipster brands are just following on the toxic practices of giant corporations.
What I am keeping from this video, is the fact that the initial pour would add more water than the remaining four. Made me a better cup of coffee indeed. The rest I kept it more simple (I think) with 4 equal pours instead of the second one with less water to balance the first. 16.5 grams of coffee, 75 ml water for blooming, then 4x40ml water. Ratio is 1 to 14.3, 235ml cup, medium to dark roasted coffee beans. Boiling water for the bloom, 90 degrees later. Use of the Hario drip assist, 67 clicks on the X-Ultra.
Hey, not sure if you are still active here but how did you remove the fuse that was previously attached?
He looks a bit like Ralph Fiennes
Has this been uploaded as a guide to ifixit yet?
66 million to farming is 66 million to socialism. Your agriculture SUCKS in terms of gdp/capita and gdp/acre of arable land. Socialism is evil; even when you really want the money for something.
I love that pot you pressed in. Where you get it?
Super useful vid.
Funny, I just recently doing V60 and never had this issue because I use lower ratios, so the 50 ml initial pour was perfect. Hit 3:30 to 4:00 final times too.
I think you forgot to reduce the background music on this
You might also want to begin the video by summarizing Hoffman's technique. It was really hard for me to get into this because you jump right into what you did without explanation of how you tweaked Hoffman
Thats why i love the moccamaster. Bought A broken one for like 60€ and reached out to technivorm for replacement parts, instead of sending them to me they checked the serial number and told me that the machine still has warranty(5 years) even though I had no receipt or other proof of purchase. I sent it to the netherlands for free and got it back 2 days later working again. Been using this 60€ machine for 3 years now and will absolutely buy one again if it ever breaks and isn‘t repairable
Thank you for mentioning the right to repair.
This is the same exact issue that my baby brezza hot water dispenser had. I was able to fix it after some other kind soul posted steps on how to fix it too.
Doesn't speak well of the company that they can't be bothered to enable a simple repair. Thanks for the info!
You paid 165$ to heat up water?
I appreciate your level-headedness. I'd be absolutely livid if a $100+ kettle broke after two years and the company told me there was no way to fix it. There's no way that should be an excuse when they still make it.
Not sure where you are, but here in the US, the company CANNOT void your warranty for 3rd party repairs, assuming they did not actually break the item. Not an issue in your case, but in case anyone wants to do this rather than exchange for them to throw the broken one away....
This is a life saver but too bad that I only see it now, after I gave away my Fellow kettle. I did get the screwdrivers and remove the bottom but I did not know how to find that fuse. I saw it as chance to try the Harjo V60 electric kettle and I am loving my new kettle.
Thanks for a great repair video, David. The Right to Repair! Now, if Baratza made an electric kettle we'd be set!
Imagine if the just had a little slot for a glass fuse, then consider how easy that would be to do.
I figured it was something like this thank you. You saved my kettle. Something like this should be external and user serviceable . Who makes a “fuse” so hard to replace.
Using triangle screws should be forbidden. Absolutely no reason other than being burdensome to repair.
This was a great argument for why i will never purchase a 100$ kettle from this company. A complete joke.
A $165 kettle should just not exist, them not fixing it is NOT okay. Why is that okay?
I don’t understand the 45s bloom time. The coffee bed is cold by then and all the water has dropped already I don’t see a difference in coffee bed with 35 vs 45 sec in terms of dryness and temp of the bed It’s all dry and cold by then Though slow pouring up to 75 swirl and 20-30 sec bloom has been good for me Better than James’ original 1 cup recipe Thx for that
I like the video. U just earned a new subscriber
In the US voiding your warranty for DIY repairs that didn't damage the function of the device is a violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
A half hour warmup, even a 20 minute one like a Gaggia is a very tight sell to a regular guy who just wants a great at home experience. Gaggia just came out with new machines and those take 25 seconds I think to heat up, even Gaggia understands that 20 minutes is not acceptable in 2024 at this point.
Hi, I have a Gaggia Classic too from 2009 but I wait till the brew light is on again before press the brew button. I am AuDHD and hate the Gaggia as the sequence of the light system makes no sense. I am after a machine where everything is easy and simplistic.
I threw away mine last year :(
