Ghostbuster Spengler Link and Sound board for Hasbro Wand for use in Proton Pack
The Spengler Link and Spengler Sound board set enable the Hasbro 1984 or Spengler wand to control your pack lights and sounds and also add additionals sound that you can control.
Version 2.1 of the Spengler Link and V4.4 of the Spengler Sound board add several new features.
1) KeepAlive function no works with the rumble motor running.
2) After a long fire that resulsts in the wand shutting down, the wand will automatically power back up after the vent sequence.
3) Support for a Pack startup switch so the pack behaves more like the HasLab pack.
4) A "HUM" setting adds continuous HUM from the pack,
The Sound board does need either the GhostLab42 pack lights or the GBFans Powercell and cyclotron lights to be able to have the cyclotron lights follow the mode of the wand.
The boards can be purchased in the For Sale section of GBFans.com and also through eBay:
www.ebay.com/str/ghostlab42
The pack switch shown was purchased on Etsy from seller "PunkRocketProps".

need it
That's great, are you still selling it?
Yes, both on GBFans ("FOR SALE" section of forums) and on eBay: www.ebay.com/str/ghostlab42 www.ebay.com/itm/195201697673
Does the activation switch need to be off to manually vent?
Yes. The wand must not be activated (ACTIVATE toggle switch in DOWN position) and the upper front face toggle switch also needs to be in the UP position to perform a manual vent. When the wand is activated, the pressing of the ear button changes modes so I did not want to override that function.
How to adjust the Irrigation timer for yeardwork?
Thanks for making these very helpful products and instructions! I’m very interested in trying this for my own pack, but was curious, is it possible to swap out the sound effects to something other than what comes stock with the Spengler wand? I’ve heard some very nice movie actuate SFX in some kits and noticed that some use SD cards to upload as well. How much flexibility is there for SFX in this particular sound kit? Separately, I was curious if a modified wand that had the Spengler link could still work with a Haslab pack? For example, if I had a haslab pack and a spirit pack, but wanted to use the modified Haslab wand back and forth between them, could I?
Most of the sounds come from the Hasbro wand and are just amplified. The startup, shutdown, HUM and vent sounds are from the sound module in the center of the sound board. They are not easy to change since they reside in a flash device that is programmed on a proprietary programmer. A Modified Hasbro wand with the Spengler link will work fine with the HasLab pack, but will not keep the HasLab pack alive. It should work fine with most Pack Keep Alive products - just not tested so cannot guarantee that.
This is so amazing! I want to get into this but haven't bought my pack yet, are you going to release more kits soon? Also can you add a rumble motor to the pack that syncs with the hum?
Not all rumble motors are made to run long term, so take care finding one rated for that. The Sound board does have a controlled battery output (the sound board usually has a 12V battery attached) that is on whenever the pack is running, so if you have a 12V rumble motor or used a voltage regulator to drop the 12V battery controlled output to the desired rumble motor battery voltage it could be used to have the rumble motor powered whenever the pack is up and running.
This is awesome! Can’t wait for this kit, love the led ring! The wand will still time out though right? Will the pack stay on?
In stock and ready to ship (at least when the eBay store opens up again next week). With just the Pack KeepAlive, the pack stays on and ignores the wand (and the wand time's out pretty quickly). With just the Wand KeepAlive the wand stays on and the pack stays on - if you turn off the wand for more than 5 minutes, the wand cannot come back on because the pack removes power. With both (Pack and Wand KeepAlive) no more timeouts and you could add a vent relay to control some e-cig smoke kit.
@ that’s awesome! Will definitely same wear and tear on the wands switches. Can’t wait!
Can you buy this alone and will it work or do you need anything else?
The wand lights kit really needs the pack lights and/or the sound board since it gets power from either of those two other kits with the included cabling.
@ghostlab42 is there a bundle?

Existe este pack para la neutrona full size?
For a Spirit Halloween Life-Size Pack I do make a set of Pack Lights, but for a generic full size pack I recommend the GBFans products.
Doug...Spengler?
I got your board off of Ebay. This is the first mod I ever did on my own that actually works. It was very confusing at first but, I got it eventually. Impressive work, most impressive.
Currently installing Spengler link with an 84 want and your light kit into a full-size Spirit pack and during initial install troubleshooting somehow I got it to play the GB theme song. Is this a normal function? or just something on the card for use with on other applications?
Yes, that is a normal function. With the wand powered up but no rumble motor running (not "activated"), the ear button can perform either a manual vent operation or a start/stop function for the theme song. The selection between the two is done with the front face top toggle switch.
Mine comes in tomorrow!!!! Cant wait to get started on this babd boy!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Just ordered a full kit from you! Very excited!
Thanks for all of your hard work on this. Do you have any speaker recommendations?
Not really... The recommendation is for an 8 ohm "full range" speaker rated at 10W or more (200W is fine). Speaker sound is very dependent on how/where it is mounted. I use car speakers, home ceiling outdoor rated speakers (with paintable grills), etc. As large as you can securely mount and as heavy as you are willing to carry! GBFans offers this speaker, though I have not listened to one in person: www.gbfans.com/shop/pack-parts/40w-shielded-speaker/ I also purchase speakers from Parts-Express as they carry a good selection of speaker components: www.parts-express.com/speaker-components/hi-fi-woofers-subwoofers-midranges-tweeters/midrange-midbass-drivers-full-range-speakers
This was a fantastic reply and I really appreciate your time!
Will the Spengler Link work with the GBfans Pack Blaster sound board? Also where can I get the multi color pack light kit?
Unfortunately, no. The GBFans sound board does not have a way to decode the Link's signal. This Spengler sound board and the GBFans sound board both work with either my Spirit Pack Lights (seen in this video) or the GBFans Powercell and Vent lights and both of those pack lights sets can provide the color changing cyclotron lights.
@@ghostlab42do you have an audio amp recommendation for the new Spengler Link and Sound setup? I’m running stereo speakers in off the GBfans board currently.
@@ericparker243 The Spengler sound board is mono, so no stereo source like the GBFans board's sound module. The 10W mono amplifier is rated at the same power as a single channel on the GBFans sound board. If you want another speaker and audio amplifier for more volume (just not stereo!), the auido input jack on the Spengler Sound board can be configured as a line level output. This is a design feature, but I do not test each board for the output, so it _probably_ works, but is untested. See the Spengler sound board documentation for configuration, but it does require a couple of simple solder changes on the Spengler Sound board. The audio output works with most audio amplifiers, so no recommendations, but look for a 12V audio mono amplifier rated at 10W or something similar since that would be similar to one channel of the GBFans sound board.
@@ghostlab42 thank you for all the help. Putting everything together this weekend. Can’t wait to fire it up!
Can you power on with the cycolotron lid off ? The reason I asked because mine for some reason not working with or without the lid ? I can't figure it out
There is a lid sensor that goes to the original board. Wires and contacts on the lid should be carefully checked. My packs are in storage at the moment so can't check, but the wand should still be able to power on, though the pack is still controlled by the original circuit board that wants the lid on before the pack will power up. Even without the lid attached, you should be able to toggle the control switches inside the cyclotron and the original sound board should make short sounds. This can check that the boards are getting power and the speaker is attached.
Do you know where I can find a OEM replacement main board for the haslab proton pack mine not working?
I contacted Hasbro and was told they are not offering replacement boards to customers or repair shops. I have not used these, but GPSTAR makes replacement boards, and there are probably a few others. I do not know if these are only for damage replacements, or if they are replacing working boards - which would imply there could be some working boards available from those upgrades. I just have not seen any.
Awesome thanks ill definitely look into that 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much for this link kit. I just finished the installation with your light kit as well, and it is beyond amazing. 100% satisfied!
So I was bored and reversed engineered the Walmart Rubies version's gear box they used. 3d print the case and actuator, along with some gears and the 5v motor and limit switches and re use the existing bomb bay door mechanism in the Spirit Trap and voila. Assembly slide into the spirt trap like it belongs there. Add a pedal and you have a remote opening trap.
Hey question! First, awesome work as always! Second, I’ve done this project with your products, hooking the Spengler wand to the 80% size spirit pack. Would I be able to use the same instructions, hooking the ‘84 wand to the full size pack?
The parts in this video are the Hasbro 1984 wand and the pack lights are the ones for the Spirit Halloween Life-Size Pack. The instructions for the 1984 or the same as for the Spengler wand, just a different mounting bracket (use the Orange bracket for the 1984 wand and the black bracket for the Spengler wand).

Would you ever make a ring LED kit for Afterlife and Frozn Empire styled cyclotrons?

@@ghostlab42 Does it also fit in life-size 3D printed packs, or only in spirit packs?
Hello, I ordered the light and sound kit. When I closed everything together, I turned on the switch on the Neutrona wand and the light on the wand and the Powercell and Cyclotron lamps lit up. When I turned it off again and wanted to turn it on again, the light on the wand and the Powercell went on The cyclotron light doesn't turn on, but the Powercell always lights up and there's electricity on it too. My question now is why is it?
Each board does have a self test mode. It may be possibly that the potentiometer ("CONFIG") is turned to the self test mode. Take care when adjusting since it is a plastic potentiometer! In the PackLights test modes the lights on the powercell are lit, but not changing. The other issue could be that the cabling between the powercell and the cyclotron lights became disconnected, best to check that when you open it up to adjust the "CONFIG" potentiometer on the powercell board. If you want to send videos, etc, you can always use email: doug at ghostlab42 . com
Okay, thanks for the answer, the lights are working now but I have no sound. Can you maybe help with that and give me a tip on how the sound works?
@@kathrinrichter8348 Best to test the sound board on its own. Turn off the battery. Only have the battery and the speaker attached. All other cables removed. Place the jumpers on the sound board for TEST mode. When battery is turned back on the boards should immediately start talking. Three main cause of no sound is Low battery voltage - make sure the 12V is fully charged. The Lights can work to lower voltages, but sound needs at least 7V You can also check the audio amplifier portion of the board by plugging an mp3 into the Audio Input. This lets you know if it is an issue with the internal audio generation or the audio amplifier.
@@ghostlab42 okay thank you 😊
@@ghostlab42 Can I just buy a soundboard from you for my Protonpack without any cables and stuff?
hello I have the Spengler neutro and a set of lights for my proton pack in 3d but I would like to make a direct connection to have the sound on my proton pack thank you if you can help me
For just sound, it is possible to open up the wand and connect a second set of wires to the internal speaker. Then run the wires through to your pack and connect to some audio amplifier that has differential inputs. Single ended input audio amplifiers can also work if they are powered by a battery that is completely electrically separate from the wand which needs to be running on its own battery.
ok thank you do you have a plan to show the connection thank you
@@cedricmoreau7537 No plans - You would just need to find the wires that are attached to the speaker in the wand. The speaker is removable, so the wires are easily accessible.
Thanks

First - thank you so much for everything. You're an absolute legend. So, I picked up a wand and pack set from a friend who never imstalled his, and I dont have any instructions. The documentation link on your ebay store doesn't seem to work and I haven't found a good video tutorial. What's the best way to figure out how to install in the wand? The pack was self explanitory and AWESOME. Can't wait to install it, but need some help!
The documentation links work fine for me, but if that is not working for you just send an email to doug at ghostlab42 dot com asking for the product you have and I can reply with the documentation pdf file attached.
Is this board still in production? Or is it just not available anymore?
Working on the next run of boards. Should be available in a month or so...
I like how he had given his Motorola MT-500 radio dialogue from the Ghostbusters video game. (2:41) I would've done the same myself. My Motorola MT-5000 radio would look exactly like how it was seen in the video game with the long antenna, and it would mostly have just some dialogue from the video game.
There is also the HT1000 radio with long antenna used in Ghostbusters TVG. I made replacement labels for the HT1000 from artwork supplied to me by the model designer that worked on the video game, www.gbfans.com/equipment/uniform/mt-500/ www.ebay.com/itm/194719255582
Will this ever be sold again?
Working on restocking those now. Should be available again next month...
So how come you don't have the 4 wires hooked up with the proton back circuit board?
Just wanted less wires between the wand and the sound board for this demo. No change in what is shown other than the 4-wire cable replaces the need for batteries in the wand.
Is this available without having to solder?
Unfortunately no. The board that has to go inside the wand (Spengler Link) requires some soldering. The sound board and lights do not.
where do you get all of these electronics?
I offer them through the GBFans FOR SALE section: www.gbfans.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=31 and also on eBay: www.ebay.com/str/ghostlab42
Is the music on the wand board or the pack board?
The pack's sound board. The Sound board also has an audio input so you can supply your own music if desired.
Will this work with the 80% size spirit halloween pp. Thanks
Does this fit the life size Spirit proton pack ?
The Spengler link and sound board will fit fine. The Spirit Pack lights shown are for the smaller Spirit Deluxe pack, but I do offer a nearly identical Pack lights kit for the Spirit Life-Size pack.

Thank you 😊👍
is there any issues with the wand powering up and firing? I have the issue with another keep alive kit where once i hit the third toggle the wand shuts down like there not enough charge? Im using a talent cell battery pack for a power source
Fixed in my latest version but that was a problem with the first version of my Pack KeepAlive board. If you are using the 5V output of the TalentCell to replace the D-Cell batteries, that can contribute to the problem. There are variations in pack and wand power supplies so this shows up differently for different packs and wands. The issue is that the Pack normally uses the 6V (initial) voltage to generate about 4.2V out to the wand. As the battery voltage lowers below about 5V the wand voltage lowers due to the packs power supply design. Starting out at 5V (USB voltage) is marginal and the pack may not be able to provide the full 4.2V out to the wand. When you activate the wand, the rumble motor should also start up. This is a large current draw and the voltage can dip down as that surge takes place. The wand appears to be more sensitive than the pack to dropping voltage. The TalentCell also limits the current for the USB more than for the 12V output, so my board does not use the USB output. My new Pack KeepAlive board has separate power supplies for the wand and the pack. Their job is to take in the battery voltages (either from the D-Cell batteries that start at 6V and/or the 12V from the 5.5x2.1mm power jack) and provide 6V to the pack and 4.5V to the wand. This works with battery voltages much lower than the pack would normally operate at. As the batteries drain, there is no voltage change seen by the pack and it thinks it is working with a fresh set of batteries until the batteries are completely drained.
@@ghostlab42 so I would still be good with talent cell with your new version and if so where can I order it?
@DavesDimension It works great with the 12V output and connection cables that come with the TalentCell batteries. 5.5x2.1mm jack on the battery, not the USB connector. The KeepAlive kits are available here: www.ebay.com/itm/195745928732 And also more directly here: www.gbfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50623

Question, I got the ghostbusters full upgrade kit, but when I activate slime blower the cyclotron lights turn orange instead of green, is there a reason why?
I would need to know which powercell board and cyclotron lights you have. The boards do have self test modes to more directly check the LEDs. It would be easier to send pictures of the parts and continue this in some other forum... I am user spongeface on GBFans.
@@ghostlab42 so do I have to look you up on gbfans? Or I could do gmail
ok so I need help. I have done the self-test and it worked just liked the instructions told me, but the problem is I'm not getting any sound from the wand I'm only getting the sound fonts from the soundboard and somehow I'm getting the afterlife start up sound as well. I'm fairly confident I've soldered everything correctly. I haven't ordered the light kit yet, does not having the lights affect everything? it's just I'm struggling, and I really want this to work because it so freakin cool. please help.
The light kit (or lack of light kit) should not affect anything. Are you able to initiate the vent sound or song from the wand controls? This would indicate two of the 3 wires are working correctly. Is the wand itself still making the sounds? See the video starting at 05:30. You should be able to hear the clicking and also any sounds from the wand. If you do not hear the sounds from the wand coming through the speaker, it could be: 1) a bad connection between the spengler link and the sound board (solding at the stereo jack in the wand handle, a bad audio cable or a bad connector on the sound board) 2) the yellow wires that are attached to the back of the wand's main circuit board are not making a good connection. May be easier to continue any debugging via email: doug@ghostlab42.com
I like the fact you make these but I was just wondering if you can do less tests and more how to I de we install your kits I'm ameuter when it comes to this lol.
You don't like the pdf instructions? Lots of pictures in there. I will add that request to my to-do list!
out of curiosity do you konw how the proton pack communicates? is it possible to reverse engineer the signal?
The Hasbro Wands don't normally communicate with anything. The Hasbro/HasLab proton pack just looks to see what current is being drawn from the battery by the wand to determine if the wand is on or not. Does that count as communicating? This Spengler Link kit looks at various signals in the wand to determine what the wand is doing and then sends that down to the Spengler sound board. The signal it sends is encoded so it only needs 1 wire to convey all of the information from the wand to the sound board. (OK, 2 wires if you count the ground reference)
Oh interesting! for some reason I've been under the impression that the cyclotron lights changed colors with the different modes this whole time! Definitely don't count that as communicating! And def count the ground reference :P. Thanks for the info! currently looking into doing a Qpack instead of the spirit pack, but keep going back and forth (I'm an EE in the automation field but I don't have a lot of time to hobby anymore) Either way thank you again for the speedy response! @@ghostlab42
The HasLab pack only has Red illumination for the cyclotron - so it matters which "proton pack" is being discussed! For this video, only the wand is made by Hasbro and the Hasbro/HasLab pack is not involved. I was just thinking you were asking about the Hasbro/HasLab pack... This video is for a generic pack and the Spengler Link tells the Spengler sound board about the wand's mode change and then the Spengler Sound board tells the Pack Lights board to change cyclotron colors, so the cyclotron ends up matching what the Hasbro wand is doing.@@XxskoolxX
I was we are on the same page! thank you for the info about the haslabs pack again!@@ghostlab42
Does the radio need to be a working one? Don’t know that mine works.
The sound module takes over all functionality, so it no longer would work as a radio/walkie talkie even if it was working before. It needs a working power (on/off) switch, talk switch and speaker. It also would like to use the volume potentiometer and frequency selector switch, but those are not required. The switches' and knobs' connections are removed from the original electronics and only used by the sound board directly with new wires.
When will these modules be available for purchase!! 😩TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!
Added links in the description to where I currently offer these for sale.
Thank you!!
Wish I could make one of these for my sister. She can't walk or talk due to cerebral palsy and just loves Ghostbusters. Are those original radios still purchasable today?
I found one on Mercari for almost $100.
Yes, I do offer modded MT500 radios and also Modded Spirit Halloween Walkie Talkies. See the description for links. The Spirit Walkie Talkies are lower cost, but do not have external volume control or external quote selection. The talk button also slides instead of presses. The sound module will also play a selection every 1 minute to 8 minutes (user settable) if you leave it on...
Quick question just order the sound and Spengler board kit about to purchase the light kit but I was just wondering what 12v battery you have and where I can get one or if any 12v rechargeable battery pack will work?
Most any 12V rechargeable should work. Many use TalentCell batteries. I use those and random "Blue brick" style batteries. Make sure it comes with a charger, so you don't have to track down a compatible charger. I suggest 4800mAH capacity or more and have used many 9800mAh capacity batteries. Get as large a capacity as can fit, you can afford and don't mind carrying around in the pack. And recharging can take a long time...
Sweet! Thank you!
