I just ordered my anbernic "Steve" based on this video. The moment you mentioned having your keys in your pocket I finally settled on a clamshell. I also have a MiYoo A30 in the mail so I'm curious which will reign supreme on my next trip. I'll be probably playing some flavour of Bomberman along with some Newer Super Mario Bros DS (if it runs well on the SP). Great video!

I take my rg28xx everywhere I go.

for a few days of vacation or short trips even by motorbike, I would choose RG Cube (code name Meatball) or Retroid 4 Pro, otherwise the RG556 and I have all 3 and I love them :)

I've got one in the mail. Can't wait to play with it. Currently using a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and love it but wanted to try a smaller form factor.

I personally want to see more SEGA inspired handhelds. The only ones we have are some really janky models on AliExpress and I am talking about that dumb one from Ozone which looks like they took a Miyoo and stuffed it into a Game Gear style case with their logo on the screen. No, I am talking about more like the Steam Deck (Let's be real it's a SEGA inspired design) and this Handheld the ARC S. We need more high quality SEGA inspired handhelds. Too many Nintendo and Sony themed handhelds out there. AS a SEGA fan I have had enough of that. So, I emailed Anbernic asking for new SEGA handheld designs and better performance at competitive pricing and they said they passed that on to the relevant departments. Which might be the garbage bin but, I tend to think positively so, Yeah I hope more cool SEGA styled devices come soon.

I love SEGA more than most in my opinion. I am a true SEGA hardware Nerd. I love the hell out of SEGA. So much so, that when SEGA left in 2001 and broke my heart. I tried Xbox and after that when 360 and others came out but SEGA didn't come back. I didn't either. It took me from 2006 to 2016 to come back to games. I left for 10 Years.

I have not seen any custom firmware videos that deep dive into all the recent ones. I tried early Custom Firmware from Techtoytinker and it didn't work well for me as my system reacted poorly to it and nearly bricked. Now, my system takes a full minute to boot.

Wifi isn't an issue on the dev build Cool Beans (bc324f66) - connects pretty quick

I've had this since they shipped and it has replaced every handheld other than my Steam Deck. In fact when I take my Steam Deck with me this goes in the bag with it but often I take just the RG35XXSP alone. I still play my Steam Deck more though as all my PC gaming is done through it plugged into my monitor. I usually do use a custom OS on small retro handhelds but the stock on this is great. I don't use portmaster as all the games that play on that play on my Steam Deck anyway. I got Stardew Valley running on MuOS but eh, still better on my Steam Deck. I run Linux on all my PCs minus my Mac Mini so the Knulli storage format, EXT4, is what I use anyway so I might give that a shot at some point.

It's the GOAT for 2024. Really just dumb luck on Anbernic's part time given the number of handhelds they bloody release every month. I'm more a muOS fanboy but I don't mind the latest stock from Anbernic which is somewhat unnerving given their firmware is usually a trainwreck.
