CAMPER READY | 1975 Boler Restoration Final Touches
Welcome back to the Idaho Panhandlers! The goal of the initial restoration of our 1975 Boler fiberglass rv was to get it into a ready state so we can use it while we continue to renovate it. Well.. we did just that and our camper looks fantastic in comparison to when we first got it. In this video, we'll knock out some final touches that really make the build come together. Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoy this video, consider subscribing!

What Did you do with the old fan?
I still have it. Likely going to mount it in my shop that I want to build this summer.
If this was a real electrical contractor he would not be using an aluminum ladder for one also that loop of Romex hanging out of the beam is another sign of a rookie job just an observation of a 40-year electrician
You should have used scaffolding
I'll agree with you on the romex situation - I'm not a fan of how the builder installed it either. As far as the ladder goes, it was all I had and I felt comfortable. Do you have a suggestion on how to mitigate the wire coming out of the box? Should it be in conduit?
wow night and day difference
I think so too! Thanks for watching.
You figured out a ceiling fan. Too bad you don't know architecture.
They make heat powered fans that sit on your wood stove.
Sterling engine fan. Need some extra blowing power
You know- you just have to go for it. If not successful, then hire someone. Only caviote if it's a real detailed thing, then you may do it, but not be happy.
You just barely dodged a latter fail youtube video
I mean, you're not wrong. If it slipped I was aiming for the couch.
ok for winter to move hot air down. Totally suck in summer why blowing the hottest air down on you. use a floor fan coolest air at floor level.. i use a thermo to test. not guess
basically i rarely use mine. never in summer. its hot in san jose. winter if heat is not running it blows cooler air down not comfortable..
This fan actually spins both ways. There’s a button on the remote that I can push to make it go in reverse which in theory will suck that hot air up instead of pushing it down on you. Hopefully it will help keep it cooler in the summer months.
Try it both ways,
You reverse the fan. Then it draws air from the floor up
@@theidahopanhandlersyou want the fan to push the hot air down during the summer (counterclockwise) and pull cold air up during the winter (clockwise)

Suggestion: I know a REALLY REALLY great gardener, credentials, connections, reps plants for Southern Living Plant Collection, and Proven Winners. But, mainly, he was a nurseryman-grower for decades, now has the most gorgeous .9 acre home garden, Raleigh NC. Jim & Stephany Putnam, their outstanding main YT channel is "Hort Toube with Jim Putnam". His philosophy is to BUILD nourishing soil. So, while you're waiting to carve out some Time to set up a garden, you could maximize your time easily, by dumping seasoned compost, wood chips, shredded hardwood mulch, and the like, onto the sunniest, most convenient spot to grow veg, flowers, herbs. You'll benefit greatly by getting his expert advice.

Will this work for Japanese Maple? Or gourds?
I'm not sure about for gourds, but for the Japanese Maple it should work great. Maybe research the gourds to see if they like the nutrients added from the ash.

Realistically speaking after everything, you're not far off. Thanks for watching.
I watch stuff like this, and somewhere in my mind I think about the feminists saying they don't need no man, they can do everything a man can. I don't think you could find a dozen women across the nation who would be out there relieving the snow load on their roof.
Thank you for the tutorial! I’m definitely going to try to build this
Awesome, hope you do! Good luck!
Looks like an awful lot of hard work to me
That day made for a shoulder workout that's for sure. It took about three hours to complete!
So you could DIY with a couple branches and a woven material made out of foliage. All free.
I don't think that would work very well. The flex and strength needed in the pole is something you probably couldn't get with tree branches.
Got up to 65 here in the texas panhandle. It's been a mild November and December. Our lows have been between 30 and 40 degrees for the most part. A few nights have been a little colder. Hopefully our yearly artic blast that happens in end of January and into February won't be too bad
Awesome. This shot was from a couple of years ago. We too, have had a very mild winter with hardly any snow. We can see the bare earth still and had a high of 38 today. Waiting on our arctic blast as well. It will happen - it always seems to happen.
Ahh, we were wondering when the next Boler video would drop! Whooo hooo!!! Oh, so glad to hear you are taking it on a camping trip!!! Can’t wait to hear how that went!!! Hehehehehehehe, we both CRACKED up when Lolly got on top of you!!! OMG, that was hysterical!!! She looked like she was planning to take a nap right on top of you!!! I bet she jumps into bed with you too! All that space to lay down and she picks on top of you!!! That is so funny!!! I hate plumbing, mostly because I suck at it. 😊 Nice job getting everything plumbed in, especially with that 60-pound fur bag on you!!! 😊 BTW: The cabinets look really nice!!! You guys did a great job picking out the sink and the fixtures. I like the rechargeable unit. Pretty snazzy for sure! The main faucet looks nice and functional with the sprayer. Nice counter layout. Very efficient!!! Question on the soap dispenser, can you refill from the top? Just curious. Do you have a dedicated spot in the camper for that awesome power bank you have? That is a very nice stove. The entire counter looks super slick and modern!!!! Love the solution for the water outlet valve!!! Hehehehehehe, I feel your pain regarding trips to the hardware store! Been there! We thought you did a great job with replacing the propane line. I thought it would have been much more difficult to replace that, especially when you showed the underneath of the camper. Wow, you made short work of that, must have been all that encouragement from Lolly!!! Nicely done!!! That backsplash seemed to be a subtle addition when you first mentioned it, but it makes a huge impact now that it is finished!!! Super Gucci countertop!!! Excellent job!!! 😊 Man, that turned out so nice!!! I am sure it will feel like you are staying in a suite at the Ritz Carlton after camping in a tent for so long!!! Can’t wait to see the video with you guys camping in it!!! Stay safe and be well my friend!!!
Yes! Trying to crank these videos out. I have an insane amount of footage to weed through - hopefully one or two more videos and I'll be all caught up to what the Boler currently looks like! Haha ohhhh... Lolly. That is a Dalmatian for you! She is the neediest doggo I have ever seen and will snuggle us anytime, any day if given the chance. We're pretty strict with her, and she's not allowed in the bed (nor into the room for that matter) or on the couch unless it's by invitation which is rare. We learned fast that to tame her we had to create A LOT of boundaries and rules so she wouldn't rule the roost 😂 So.. when she sees an opportunity with her dad lying on the ground she will take it to get some snuggles in. Haha I hate plumbing too! Mostly due to the awkward positions one must get in to accomplish any task. That was a strange plumbing contraption I had to come up with.. but it works! Glad you like the cabinets! I love the look of how they came out. If I ever do it again, remind me not to use plywood. I'm not sure why I did that! And yes! Tessa and the color gold for the fixtures 😊 Unfortunately no, the soap dispenser cannot be refilled from the top. I have to take the bottom out. I ended up just filling it with that biodegradable camp soap. Right now, the power bank is living in the closet. I thiiiink the next video should show that setup! I love the stove too! It was especially pleasing when I got to make coffee for the first time on it! Oh man the hardware store... I was there so often that the employees knew me by the time I'd leave and come back again. Haha The propane line replacement was much easier than I thought it was going to be.. Thankfully! Lolly was my support team! I love how the backsplash turned out as well! It fit perfect! I just hope I never have to take it off 😬😬 Glad you enjoyed it! I really thought it started to take shape in this video and you can really get a feel for how it should look someday down the road. More video(s) on the Boler coming soon! The holidays are approaching and if I don't hear from you guys I just wanted to say Merry Christmas! I hope you and your mom get to spend some quality time with friends and loved ones. Cheers! -Danny
@@theidahopanhandlers Oh wow, cannot wait to see those videos and see all the hard work you put into it. Also cannot wait to see the camping trip. Looking for to see the might Boler in action!!! You can tell Lolly is well LOVED and well taken care of by you and Tessa!!! That is the reason Lolly is the way she is!!! She has an energy streak in her for sure, but you guys do a great job managing her!!! Thank you so much my friend!!! We wish you, Tessa, and Lolly a VERY Merry Christmas and a Safe, Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!!! BTW: When you get a chance, check your email. 😃
Love the pole wrap inlay on the cabinet fronts, great idea! On my Paris Pacer, I took a similar approach for the under bed storage and also ran into nothing being 90 so the fronts were fun. 😂 super clever on the secret storage hatch.
Thanks a lot! The pole wrap fronts give a cool, vintage look and I really like how they came out! What did you do for your under the bed storage?
@@theidahopanhandlers Basically, had two old wooden drawers that fit perfectly under the bed. Painted, added handles and slides with some led motion lights for when the drawers are pulled out, you can see the contents. Down and dirty. Your IKEA bins were clever and a nice way to maximize that space even better.
I like the rounded corners with the 2” overhang, nicely done sir! Using the scrap butcher block for the backsplash was a great idea.
I appreciate it! I was really fortunate that the butcher block I ordered came in the size it did. It fit perfectly in the space and needed minimal work to make it fit right.
Nicely done! I picked up an 86’ Paris Pacer this summer and am close to completion. Love watching the series, motivated me during my journey. Also in ID. 😊
Thanks a ton! Would love to see what your Paris Pacer looks like. I appreciate your support and for following along on our build!
I ran my water similar in concept but used one line on the faucet for the “city” pressurized connection and the other for off grid on a water pump so I could keep it to down to one faucet. Your cabinets look amazing, nicely done!!
@@hsidder Smart! Do you have a hot water setup in your camper or are you running strictly cold? It would definitely be nice to not have a dual faucet setup, though the rechargeable faucet and tank can be removed and placed outside or anywhere for that matter if we need running water in a different setting. Perks to both!
@@theidahopanhandlers Ah, I like the portable idea as well.
I guess the real question i have is why? It takes up more space than the buckets by themselves it makes the top harder to reach costs money and most importantly cost time
A couple of reasons: 1.) Aesthetics. It looks organized, neat, and it displays your garden well vs. buckets on the ground. 2.) I disagree that it makes the top harder to reach.. The back row is elevated which makes it easier to reach vs. reaching over two rows of buckets on the ground with 2-3' high plants in all of them. I can easily water the back row.
That flex drain is fire bro
You should definitely upgrade to a proper P trap, it is not very hard and will be much more robust against clogs.
Thanks for the input! I'm looking into it now.
Good work! As a plumber, the only thing I would change is that accordion style drain you have installed. They are the worst and are notorious for collecting gunk and debris. I know they seem nice and convenient because all you need to do is bend it to fit your set-up, but it’s definitely not the best option long term. Good job overall!
I’m not a plumber but I have the same thoughts.
I appreciate the input, thanks! I can definitely see how it could accumulate a bunch of gunk in that flexible style p trap. I went with that because the standard p trap that I had on there didn't line up with the drain I installed. Do you have a suggestion on what I should use? Thanks again!
I have to take apart the drain for the kitchen sink today. Got a clog that I'm hoping is just contained in the P trap. I don't feel like snaking out lines today. Boiling soapy water unfortunately didn't cut it.
Darn, sorry to hear! This was the second drain I’ve had to redo in the last couple of weeks so I feel your pain. The p trap in my other bathroom was pretty gunked up so I’m hoping it’s just that for your sake. Good luck!
@@theidahopanhandlers luckily, it was a quick fix. There was a grease plug in the line above the p trap. Texted my wife about it and she replied back 'I fucked up draining the hamburger meat'

I appreciate it! Let me know if you have any questions about the blower. Cheers.
Based on the home prices in your area, you just added about 35K to your resale value. :) Hehehehehe... that would be hysterical, if it was not so true... hehehehehe
Haha you know you're not too far from the truth there!
You give a mouse a door, she'll want some shelves. You give a mouse shelves, she's going to want a shoe rack. You give a mouse a shoe rack, she's going to want a bigger closet. The things we do to keep our wives happy

I grew up always looking at these three maple trees in the distance, I always loved there unique shape. And I wasn’t allowed to go where they were because I was too young to go that far, now I’m older so now I can go to them………but unfortunately we got new neighbors and they cut down the trees. I’ve been very sad lately because I loved those trees so much because I grew up with them 🌳 😢
I hear you on this. The trees I mentioned in the video growing up are now gone. It's funny the attachment we can grow to them. Time to just plant our own and grow new ones I suppose. Thanks so much for watching!
@@theidahopanhandlers your welcome. Yeah I plan to plant a few maple trees in my yard in the future to replace them
I think battery powered chainsaws are definitely worth it, if used in the right situations. The battery technology has improved so much that tools like a battery powered chainsaw are now possible. I still plan on getting a gas powered chainsaw, but I will definitely be getting a battery powered one as well.
Couldn't put it better if I tried! I love having my two saws as they both serve very different purposes.
Whoo Hooo! Another Boler video! Okay, you get a carpenter of the year award for being sealed into the closet!!! Wow, I would not have done that in 1 million years, plus I am way too fat!!! Bro, it would have taken the jaws of life to extricate me from that, assuming I could have found a way to stuff myself into that box. Holy cow, thank God Tessa’s drill did not die! Great to see Tessa and Lolly in a video again! Love the panel frame you created with the hatching fabric, not sure what to call it, but WOW, that was creative for sure. My Mom and I were so IMPRESSED. Very creative!!! What a great idea!!! OMG, that pull wrap material looked SO AWESOME!!! This is the first time I have ever seen that. Wow, what a creative and professional look!!! BTW: Love the cameo of the MIGHTY Kubota!!! Oh man, great way to overcome a miscalculation. In my opinion, your solution turned out way better!!! Hats off to you my friend, most people may not realize what it takes to combine the production pieces with your custom work AND get everything to line up properly. Great job taking the proper measurements and great job working on the problem and coming up with a solution!!! Very creative AND practical!!! Love how you calculated the face frame. As a puke woodworker, I am VERY impressed and will add your technique to my tool bag!!! Hehehehehe… we loved seeing Lolly being the site boss and green lighting the cir saw!!! I have to ask, as a hack wood worker, where did you come up with the design? Your design seemed so well thought out and deliberate! You nailed it buddy!!! We loved the look of the finished cabinets. So creative!!! You CRUSHED that under bed storage!!! Brilliant, just brilliant!!! Killer battle plan!!! Well thought out. It is clear you spent a lot of time doing prep!!!! You made that look easy and I am sure it was not!!! OMG, I loved the secret storage space!!! Danny, like always, you CRUSHED that build. That was way more complicated than it looked. Well done my friend!!! I learned a lot!!! We cannot wait to see more Boler videos!!! Stay safe and be well my friend!!!
New fear unlocked: Tessa's drill dying 😬 I never even thought about that. Being stuck in that closes for as long as I was was really uncomfortable. But it worked!! Lol Glad you liked the way the cabinets came out with the Pole Wrap and the Cane Webbing! Those were Tessa's idea and they came out pretty nice! It's even better when the idea turns out and works! Definitely gotta love the Kubota sitting there looking pretty! Thanks for the comment on the miscalculation of those Ikea totes. I agree that what I ended up coming up with likely came out better than what I initially had in mind. It was a crazy idea and i'm pretty stoked that it worked out. Plus, we took the Boler on a couple of camping trips in the summertime and nothing fell apart - score! The template idea was something I learned from a Facebook group that is all about Bolers and Scamps. It's something I had never tried prior to this project, but it sure works well! Just a lot of trial and error! Haha that's my dog! She will lay on anything that is not the ground and she practically claimed that 1/8" plywood sheet. Are you referring to the design of the under the bed storage and how I came up with it? Honestly, it was mostly original! Those Ikea Trofast units can be bought in tons of configurations. Most of the time, people will buy a unit that is tall and can fit one to four totes high.. and then they'll construct it in the closet of the Bolers/Scamps. We liked that idea, but overall felt it would make it hard to hang coats/clothing in the closet.. So, I came up with the under the bed idea! I had never seen anyone do that before, and I love how it turned out! Can't tell you how much I appreciate the words regarding how it came out!! I really like that secret hatch as well! Any ideas as to what should go in there? Thank you thank you thank you to you and your mom for watching this video!! I appreciate it more than you know! I have more that I'll be posting soon.. Ahh how I love wintertime as it's finally slowed down enough so that I can edit! Take care, and talk to you guys next time!
Great build out. Love the adaptation of the IKEA system
I really appreciate it, thanks!!
I have a Milwaukee M18 saw. And a Husqvarna 440 and a steel MS 271. It is my go-to saw unless I have to cut up a whole bunch of stuff it will easily cut through a 16-in tree at least 20 times or more
Yeah I have a Husqvarna 572XP, and I still go for my little Greenworks Saw more times than not. If anything it keeps the wear off of my big saw, and I get quite a bit of cuts off it as you mentioned.
No
If your just cutting one log I guess😮
I think lye bath is easier and more consistent
I don't see myself owning one, but it seems that electric chainsaws would be best suited for trimming trees than cutting them down. But, to each their own
Looks just as useful!
Having it tiered rather than one level seems like a waste of space despite the fact that the space is vertical.
Have you tried this on an icy snow plow berm at the end of a driveway? Shoveling it is so hard!
Sorry for the late reply! I wouldn't recommend this for anything other than fresh snow.. I think an icy berm would be a match for this blower. I agree with you with the shoveling part!
The butcher block looks awesome!
Hey thanks! I’ve used your fiberglass resin as well for a lot of this project and swear by your products. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment!
Whooo hooo! Another Boler video! We were wondering how that project was going! Ah, you are wearing a jacket. Looks like this project has been on hold for a while. 😊 Oh damn, that must have smarted. Total knuckle buster!!! At first, I wondered why you were using the multitool to remove the back wall of the camper, but after watching, it makes total sense to remove as much material from the back wall as possible to get a tight fit and maximize counter space. I gave no consideration to how you would securely attach the plywood strip to the back of the camper. Nails are not an option, duh! I am not sure I would have thought of that. Good thinking, I would have totally missed that. Hehehehehehe, my Mom and I both laughed when we saw the cottage cheese container. We just saw a 3lb container at Costco recently and said, wow, that is big. Who eats that much cottage cheese and 1 day later, we see you are using the same container to apply the fiberglass resin. Hehehehehehehe. Total LOL moment for us, but probably not nearly as funny to you. 😉 Question, will you be putting mesh or a screen over the two vents on the camper wall? The mighty pocket hole!!! A wood workers best friend! We thought the rounded corners looked great! Wow, that was a lot of snow on the ground!!!! I saw some snow on the Schweitzer Mountain cams, but I did not think there was any at the lower elevations. Pretty cool! Love the cameo shot of the MIGHTY Kubota in the background!!! 😊 Great idea with using the off cut for a backsplash. Wow, that looked so nice!!! PERFECT!!! Sweet sink!!! Looks super slick!!! OMG!!! I cracked up when I saw the instructions!!! Use spell check, no doubt!!! Oh man, total bummer on needing to do the recut, but trust me, you are NOT the first one to have to redo a cut because of making a boo boo! 😊 Nice stove for sure!!! How did you attach the under mount sink? Did you epoxy it? Super nice faucet and soap dispenser!! That looks awesome Danny!!! Great job!!! Can’t wait to see the rest!!! Be well and stay safe my friend!!!
So sorry for the late reply! I am so ready for winter to be here so I can sit down and focus more on UA-cam and responding to comments. Life has been running at a mile a minute lately here it seems. But yes.. another Boler video! Aha.. I was absolutely wearing a jacket. It's not that the project has been on hold, but more so that my video editing has been on MEGA hold. I filmed this last spring 😂 and that's why there was snow on the ground! Man.. I'll tell you what.. Revamping a vintage fiberglass RV will take everything one may know about attaching things and basic carpentry skills and essentially say "not today friend." Everything is pretty much secured using fiberglass cloth, resin, and rivets.. though I haven't taught myself how to use one of those yet. A mesh screen is actually a great idea. I hadn't thought of that, but for keeping out the bugs and critters I think I'll be adding that to the to-do list. Thanks!! Haha I know it.. those cottage cheese containers are huge! We go through it pretty quickly in this household. That's awesome. Love the pocket hole jig! This project has taught me many good things.. and using a pocket hole jig has been one of them - so useful! The counter absolutely came out better than I thought and I really like how the backsplash looked with it as well. Totally random that it all worked out. I believe I attached the backsplash and mounted the undermount sink for good in a later video! It definitely stunk to have to buy a whole new countertop, but overall it worked out so no complaints here! I basically got the Boler to a usable state for the year, and I even filmed taking it on its maiden voyage on a trip in Canada that I'm excited to share with you guys. There's so much work to be done on it, and I'm hoping to keeping going on this project this winter! The next video will hopefully be coming soon! Take care!
You must really like that tipout. I've never had them so I wouldn't have missed it
For how tiny of a camper it is we need all the space we can get. Unfortunately I planned for the tipouts so I felt it was needed to replace the counter so we could use them. Thanks for watching!
ego vs greenworks?
I haven't had much lick with onions either. Hope the comments have more suggestions. I have tried sand but maybe not enough. I also think they take a long time to grow
They take a really long time to grow it seems! The other two didn't turn out all that much bigger. Super tasty though!
