    I had a guy at a repair shop service my drives. I have an outback and a compass. Both have 180 kickup drives. I used my drive in my outback 3, maybe 4 times since he serviced it. Shredded the teeth of my rear sprocket. Can't help but think his servicing contributed to that failure. Maybe chain was too loose? Same experience you described. Felt a little off first time out. I was thinking maybe it was in my head. Took it out twice thise weekend. Felt like it was slipping. By midway through my trip yesterday the back sprocket was shredded. Limped it along for the remainder of the day but I need to replace the spine. I don't think I have the fortitude (or skill, lol) to do what you did. I has a similar thought on how to fix it, but didn't realize all those little parts were involved. Seems like a lot of work. New spine is going to cost me about $500 after parts, labor, and shipping. Getting it done at a dofferent shop than the one that did the original work. Don't need any more favors from him.

    Steering while not moving in relationship with water is not possible with rudder. (But you know that.) Not having a skag or keel without a rudder and moving in relation to water that surfboard will want to turn sideways to line of travel. I would suggest making a replacement rudder out of thin plywood the same size paint it and cut 1” off depth till it give you enough rudder control and can be left down as skag. As far as keeping boat deck clean good quality floor wax or car wax should make it easier to clean but slipperyer when wet your choice. Thanks for video review very well done.👍🏻👍🏻

    Hi there! I am not sure I should attempt the same repairs as you. I go a barrel will 3 broken teeth, but it's the external ones (1 on a side 2 on the other). Do you think it worse a repair ? If not, should I tight the chain as you did ? Is it worsing unassemble everything to repair 3 teeths or I could just remove the chain ? And finally, what is the paste you have used ? Thanks :) Your repair looks dope.

    The drive you show at the end of the video isn't the same as the one at the beginning. The first drive with the broken teeth didn't have kick up fins, had a bent mast, tons of scratches on the fins and the whole drive was worn. The drive you demo at the end is a brand new 180 drive with kick up fins. I'm guessing your fix didn't even work but you still wanted to make a video out of it since you'd put in so much time.

    • @fishhunter1566
      @fishhunter1566 9 місяців тому

      ha. i think its fair to call it the same drive. On the day i recorded this I also recorded content for two other videos. In one i replaced the wire cable for the rudder system with dynema and in the other i replaced the fixed fins on the 180 drive spine with kickup fins (which i had to buy separately and which were new). Anyway, editing videos is a drag so i never finished those two videos. The repaired portion of the original 180 drive (the teeth) was/were maintained through all the upgrades and is working well to this day. Thanks for watching. LMK if ya have any other questions.

    I’m really interested in the Hobie’s. I currently own an Outback. I live on an island and my one hesitations is oyster beds. As a river fisherman, you also have challenges of puncture. Obviously your yak survived a crash by a vegan ned fisherman. Nothing could be much worse. Just how careful would a non ned, meat eating fisherman need to be to guard against holes in the bottom?

    Nice board/kayak. I looked at these for a while. Hobie's comments that the glue seams holding it together are good for about 5 years, even just stored and not used, gave me pause. But, the Bote SUP company says it is easy to re-glue any seams that separate and they have a video on doing it. I got the Lynx instead which is pretty much just a hard board version of the iTrek9. I'm starting to think the iTrek9 would be the way to go after carrying the Lynx 10 times in the last three days. Can't beat the inflatable's 20-30lbs weight.

    • @fishhunter1566

      this board will not last forwever for sure. I patch it periodically. I do feel like most issues I have had with the board don't interfere with me using it and are easy to remedy. It is light and manageable. I Can fly with it easily. I can carry it to waters i couldnt take other boats. If they made a 9 foot (but wide) lynx, Id buy one and use them both in different settings. Thanks for your comments!

Tight lines!
