The 3D printing community comprises primarily people who are in the hobby for the printers themselves. Bambu Lab is targeting a much larger market: the consumer market! These (and I am one of them) people use printers as a means to an end. We like to print useful shit and usually don't care about how it does it. I have four Bambu Lab printers, but They are not my hobby. What Bambu Lab is doing to tweak its business model is not alarming to me as long as its product works and makes great prints. This sector has enough competition to ensure that Bambu Lab will not kill its success. The sky is definitely not falling; we are living in an exciting time regarding 3D printing.

As for aesthetics... It does look nice, but would definitely be lovely if they had USB at the front - at least it's kind of accessible, and near the front... Definitely agree about the lift up lid being a downside, since most of the other 10" sized screen printers have moved on to flip up, which works a lot better for those who have their printers on a shelf, or in a grow tent. Love the fact the vat can hold a full liter of resin! It's a large scale printer, people are going to want to be able to print larger things! I regularly run into issues where I can see the film in my vat when a print is done, and that's just a Mars 2, where I can fit maybe 250g of resin in there... Definitely agree the screen protector should be factory installed! How was the Elegoo ABS-like 3.0? You mentioned it, but didn't really comment about it after.

You are not printing in 15 or 30 nanometer layer heights, you are printing in 15 or 30 micrometer layer heights.

lascaux is here actually quite cheap because you get way more ml (85ml) compared to golden flow (30ml) or other brands.

BTW, print some handles for the lid and attach them with double sided tape. Same with the build plate head. You can put small handles on each side, and they won't interfere with mounting or latching the head. Don't have to worry about the lid or plate slipping out of your hands when removing. For exposure testing, you can do 8 Ameralabs, 6 cones of calibration, but only 2 photonsters.

But buy it withyour eyes open. The discord has new owners, many who are experienced users having bedplate adhesion issues due to the plate not being level with the screen. Many are blaming the plate, but I think the screen mounting and movement mechanisms need to be checked too as the manual leveling doesn't work. This not a majority of new owners having this issue, but it is occurring too often.

There is just no way - no matter how great this printer is - that it justifies buying into a closed system, especially when it comes to the consumables like Resin. It’s not just the cost of Resin - it’s about types of resin they don’t offer, especially the rs.

Companies could very well use a unique QR code with an app where you can't use anything unless they approve of it.

There are rumors about bigtree tech is working on a replacement main board. I guess it would burn if you earning in the after sale of a product, filament, user information for sale. Of course spare parts can still make an income.

Great video, and yes voting with my wallet is definitely what I will be doing by not buying from them until I know how this will turn out in their next generation of printers. That said I do see the advantage in the Heygears system. SLA just sucks in so many areas I don’t mind simplification of the results come out better. To a point of course. the funny thing is, that other companies who started with "you can only use our resin" are going to "you can also use third party resin now and here are the settings to do so" (Formlabs) but their Printers are more expensive then Bambu labs and also resin not FDM

Well considered. As a 3D printing user, I'm not worried about the printer companies' closed or open status, but rather the quality of the resulting prints. So, the easier the process to get to a great print a company makes it, the more attractive that company's products become. I've been using Anycubic resin printers for years and have my workflow very well dialed in. However, I'm very, very weary of the variations on a theme that require me to spend hours, if not days, dialing in settings in my slicer software. When I move into "Tim's Resin 3.0" mode, I'll be replacing the Anycubic printers with the Reflex RS units - no questions asked.

I was out of the hobby for 6 years, Bambu lured me back because their printers and their ecosystem really were fantastic. THIS, however, is a total turn off. I have 2 A1's and an A1 Mini...I was even looking to get one of their core xy machines but that decision seems to be permanently on hold. I even opened a ticket with their support prior to their initial response to the backlash (which Louis Rossman did a good job disecting) Here's a snippet...I'm only including it because their response that was published afterward made this seem almost prophetic... "If you DO intend to course correct (which I hope you do because, honestly, I love these printers) don't try and gaslight us by pretending we just misunderstood what was going on...just come clean...admit your mistake and then take steps to restore the trust your customers placed in you when they purchased your products." Clearly they didn't listen. (not that 1 customer is going to make a difference) And also...it's kind of sad that the response was SO PREDICTABLE that I called it before it even happened. And Hey...am I the only one wondering where the hell are the videos from the big 3d printing content creators on this topic? Their silence is really calling their integrity into question for me.

I am glad you brought up resin printers. Let me express one of my major concern regarding resin printers combined with a similar bambu-like business model and the way how they have access to models. (yes i am aware of their pinky-promise) Here in Hungary dozens of teeth technician use regular resin printers to make molds after scanning the physical negatives they receive from the dentist. As far as i know at the moment its safe. Nobody has access to those models except the dentist and the technicians. Can you imagine what kind of scandal, shitstorm would break out if one day people realize that a third party company have full access to millions of people's teeth map?

I will stick with Bambu, they just work. And people shouldn't cry about what has NOT happened.

This reminds me of what John Deere is doing when it comes to RTR (Right To Repair). They want total control. We have to stand up like the farmers are doing to let them know we will not tolerate this behavior towards consumers.

Everyone should submit a request for refund based on breach of contract because Bambu isn't honoring the TOS that everyone agreed to before they decided to change it. Make Bambu have a Bud Light backlash. This is the beginning of Bambu moving to micro transactions where you will have to pay monthly fee and if you exceed allowed remote activated prints or notifications you will get charged extra per print or notification, this is also precursor for total ecosystem lockdown. How would you feel if you had to pay a subscription because of TOS update on the brand new car you bought last year and a fee to use remote start or cruise control, they could even lock out sunroof, auto windows up/down or even your heated/cooled seats and if you changed your own air filter and didn't use OEM your entire warrantee is void. I called an attorney friend and told him what was up, he watched a couple videos and said every purchaser before the TOS change has grounds for a class action lawsuit. Like I said in beginning everyone should request refund cancel all orders and even return unopened parts and filament, make it a living hell for Bambu and if someone has the resources have an attorney send them letter of intent of class action suit. I had to cancel a large contract because my 2 Snapmaker printers couldn't meet deadline and canceled my order of 20 X1C printers as well as service parts and filament, it was a $30K order that I'm thankful funding took longer than expected.

I was so looking forward to possibly purchasing the new larger Bamboo H2D that is supposed to be coming out sometime this year. I really wanted this larger printer because the one I have now is a first generation Creality CR-10S Pro V2, which is slow and unpredictable. I did a lot or research from November last year and saw that Bamboo printers was the way to go for nearly set, print, and forget. Oh well, guess I'll wait and see for much later this year.

I dont know if you can say the hey gears trade off you saw and accepted when you say "yes it's expensive...". . You really can't say that though if your printer was given to you for free. It's a different scenario for the rest of the population that is watching your video and I don't think it's fair for you to say that you looked at the hey gears system and yes it's expensive because that is not a cost that you had to Bear to enter that system

I think, Bambulabs have handled this, incredibly carelessly. Did they really think, they would do the blog post and not have a massive, negative response? They may have thought, make it sound bad, then make the "real" update not as bad. If so, that is showing a complete disregard, for the intelligence of their customers. Prior to this, everyone and their dog, were highlighting Bambulabs as the perfect printer for beginners. Now, the general consensus, is that they should be avoided like the plague!

It doesn't really affects me because I use bambu studio and just use it for odd jobs , BUT the main problem is the lies , we are doing this security by making it less secure .

I think the trade off is worth it. When I bought into Bambu, I actually thought it was a closed ecosystem initially and I was happy with that. After having creality machines for 6 years, I think I prefer high quality fast and affordable machine that may become a locked down ecosystem.

I'll never trust Bambu again and I don't think they'll survive this. If there's one community that won't put up with something like this it's the 3d printing community. And while Bambu may have brought a large number of inexperienced users to 3d printing but it's still a minimum of 60% I would say that are experienced users that won't stand for control. That's the entire point of 3d printing. And no company can lose 60% of their customers and survive unless they have an outside cash source. (perhaps the Chinese govt)

No, i think we absolutely need to boycot bambu You can't change what people have bought after youve taken their money then gaslight them. Theres also no techical reason for any of the limitations they are imposing.

I got two P1 combos during the black Friday sale. Unboxed one and I absolutely love the machine. I even enjoy the handy app but after the whole bait and switch with the TOS, then the gaslighting with the PR post after the backlash I can't recommend them to anyone I know. As you said if they said this from the start and we as customers knew what we were buying then this wouldn't have been that big of a situation. I decided to sell my unopened P1S and switch to another manufacturer.

THEY SAID THEMSELVES OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE WAS 23 OF JAN 2025 AND THEN DELETED IT WHEN PEOPLE GOT MAD. Thanks James, informative summary. It's an interesting development. I was a big fan of the Netflix model when streaming started, the myriad of Disney+ and paramount+ etc has taken that the wrong way and it'll be sad to see that creaking to other markets
