RJ Sheep Farm
Приєднався 14 лют 2024
I raise sheep in Alberta Canada. I run approximately 300 Rideau Arcott ewes, and lamb from January-March. I grow the majority of my feed, and run most farm operations alone. My sheep are on pasture in the summer, and confined in the winter.
I'm making videos of what I do day to day. I hope you enjoy.

Hey Man, I have been enjoying your content. I was hoping if you can make a video on how one can start lamb farm as a beginner. I love animals and loves to be around them but I am new to Alberta, Canada and have no idea how to start. 😊
Hey rj looking g to buy ewe lambs for start up business .i have emailed you if you have time give me a call
“Parental involvement is very important.” Am I watching a family counselling video or a sheep production video 😅? All good & very true, Ryley👍!
25:06 them lambs big enough to be weaned they just as big as the ones in the bottle pen that looks pathetic lambs that big still on milk 😅
Another great video! Look forward to more, coming from the mountains of North Carolina where there are no sheep!😂
I don’t know about everyone else but I love watching sheep doing whatever, they’re so interesting! So don’t worry about reposting things because that’s what your viewers are here for. I look forward to seeing you post, you’re an interesting guy who knows so much about farming
We bought a few replacements ewes from a farm and they cut the ID tag (between the numbers) after tagging it in the ear so it’s just less likely to snag on something/harder to get caught on something
Thats a good idea!
glad you have some new videos very entertaining
🐶🐑👍😊
Hey rj great videos . Looking to get some ewe lambs from you I’ll email you with my info . Thank you
When is your lambing season
Another great video dude. I always wonder, what Is something you could use on the sheep farm that would make some aspect of the farming just that much easier? I'm not talking a heated shop or a new fancy tractor... something smaller scale but makes a big difference
Gotta love a farmer that can operate a tractor as well as you do. Well done my friend. Also those feed bunks look awesome, did you buy or build them?
When they cut teeth I would introduce creep then wean whenever their eating well because the milk only make them grow up to a certain point then the creep makes them fill out faster so 90 days way to long unless you don’t have the money or feed to support the lambs right away
Great information Keep posting as your channel is very entertaining
Did you write the song I would like to hear the whole song can you link it in the video. Like your videos keep them coming.
Just keep making them the way you are make more and you will soar
I appreciate it!
Hey Mister! How old is your bench vise? Don’t break that antique😊. “Sheep love aviation, too!” No doubt😅!
The sheep would really like a buzz from a rotorway. One day. Thanks for watching! :)
Yay! A new RJ Sheep Farm video! 😍
Yay!
I don’t see why you would wait to wean in 90days when you can wean at 60 then put the feed to them to put weight on because their only gonna grow so much on the milk
@@Lockboyz910 Feed is supplied from day 1. Rideau peak milk production hits about 60-70 days. Lambs on feed and milk will far surpass lambs just on feed at that age, combined with the weather challenges their health is much stronger. Pounds gained are cheaper in feed to a ewe than straight grain to a lamb. Are you from Canada?
Hi RJ. I think your videos are informative, funny, and show empathy and caring for the sheep as well. We need more of them 😁
Oh, I also love that you take the time to cuddle and name some of your sheep. Makes me feel not so crazy!😆
Where in Alberta are you?
@@EwetopiaFarms Central. I appreciate the support! Means a lot coming from you guys.
I've been waiting on a new video from you with great enthusiasm and I'm sooo glad it's out! 😄 I follow your channel because I like your authentic content and you sense of humor suits me perfectly 😂 Maybe cause we understand the same kind of humor here in Finland! Your videos are perfect as they are, a little bit of chores from different days, your speech and commenting are fun! I truly hope you have kept on filming throughout the spring and summer and will post even more frequently in the future! Anyway, thank you for keeping this channel and all the best to you and your lammies and sheep! 😊
Hey thank you so much for the support. Been filming periodically through the whole year. Will work on more frequent uploads, knowing I have viewers that enjoy it really makes it worthwhile!
Just came here to ask the same question, is there still snow where you live, or are your videos delayed some. I know Canada is known to be cold, but I was shocked by it last video that there was still snow. I love how you say it’s pretty warm today while there is a mess of snow!!! How are the seasons there? Do you ever get HOT weather? Just curious! Also, really glad you are getting more views than expected. I’ve always lived in the city (Philadelphia) so I love watching farming, (mostly sheep and goat farming) for me it’s so different from my life and I find it fascinating and amazing, most of it anyway.
Yes this video was filmed in March. I hardly have much to show in the summer but I am still filming here and there. I keep videos fairly delayed for a few different personal reasons. Snow left end of April, July was up to 35deg C, now that we are in August it is starting to cool off a bit. Still mid 20's during the day. Appreciate you watching@ Philadelphia is a long ways away from here.
Where do you live? So cold in summer august and this is a new video.
Video was filmed in March.
Let’s go Ethel!!!
She can boost anything!
Interesting, comparing how livestock farming is done in different areas. Lots of similarities. The big differences across channels is the fascinating problem solving you guys do. Brilliant. Sometimes, you gotta work with what you have, and if you don't have it, you have to make it work anyway. Keep the vids coming. You're doing a GREAT job. Lub Dem Sheeps!
Thank you very much, I appreciate you watching!
Great content. Enjoyed it very much. I also watch two other Canadian sheep UA-camrs. Sandi Brock has over a million viewers. She use to have four lambing groups a year but has now reduced to three. She uses cedars and an injection to facilitate the breeding of the off season ewes. Her lambing average is well over 2. Triplets are common and each lambing group she has a few ewes that have 4 or five lambs. Her sheep never go outside. She has cameras in her lambing area and keeps track if there are any issues. She has a nanny machine and any lambs over 2 are taken from mother and placed with the milk machine. There will be 3 nipples and there will be 30 or 40 lambs in the milk machine area. The other Canadian UA-camr I watch is Ewetopia. Older husband wife team have an operation similar to yours. If any of their ewes have 3 lambs, they mark all three lambs and they bottle feed all three while leaving them with mother. Look forward to new content. You really give it your all.
Happy birthday!! 🎉🎉
Winter? Its juli and this video came two days ago says youtube? Are you living on the North Pole?
Filmed in February
Thank you so much for sharing, very happy for you, happy Birthday
Happy birthday RJ! 🎂🎁🎉 you always have great content and you know your sheep really well, there’s nothing like watching a new life being born!
Enjoying your content bro! Post more!!!!😂
Hey thanks!
Yes post more! I love your sheep videos 😊
Cool to hear all that detail about raising sheep, RJ! And you’ve wrecked me for life concerning JD round balers😢.
There might be a blue company baler in that yard soon..... Who knows
2:48 Is Lamb, a boy or girl⁉️
Watching from Ontario (~50 ewes of Rambouillet and Rideau), big fan of your ingenuity with the self made equipment and approach. Are you pasture grazing at all or is it all barnyard style? How big is your lambing barn? How long are you keeping moms/lambs in the barn?
Hey I appreciate it! Ewes go on pasture June 1, lambs are all fed in feedlot. Currently we are about as dry as I have ever seen, barley silage is less than half yield and grass has quit growing. Going to be a very interesting year. Barn is 40x60. I keep them in for a minimum of 10 days depending on how cold it is.
18:34 if the produce 1 lamb means the ram didnt fertilize the other eggs when breeding check your rams
How often do you clean out your barn, of the wet/dirty straw? And how do you do it?
I am 13 years old and lambing first time ewes and first time me pulled 2 back back words. 17 lambs totally , 0 deaths.
Great work! If you could do that with 1700 lambs and no deaths you will be the greatest sheep farmer to walk the earth.
“Always close the gate.” Great life advice on so many levels! Farm On, Ryley!
