Stelvio pass- Can a new rider tackle the Stelvio!?! - Motorcycle Hairpin Bends
Переглядів 2946 місяців тому
Cez is a relatively new rider and enjoys touring with DMS Tours. The Stelvio is a challenging ride especially going up with its 60 hairpins (of which 48 are numbered)and it can indeed be challenging. However with myself as your tour guide there's not a problem as I'm a qualified DVSA DAS & ERS advanced instructor and also a RoSPA tutor, as you can see with my help coaching her on the intercoms ...

Hi Nigel the description doesn’t say a lesson on braking & use of engine braking it’s just fun on the stelvio but your comment has given me a great idea for video on that very subject. Thanks for your input I’ll get out this weekend and record a video on braking & engine braking for you (with no boring music 😉). All the best 👍
I could have learned a lot about how and when to use engine braking and/or braking, but instead I had to listen to a song! Pointless… left after 4 minutes.
20s intro a bit much :) But good vid
Yeah I’ve shortened the intro on my most recent videos. Thanks for your input
Wow, the Range Rover. What an absolute tool!
Wish my experience was like this - Got out on the bike and the left mirror was loose and flapping about, clutch was really spongy and the rear tyre needed air! Found it hard to knock it up into gear as the foot peg was damaged and they had to lube the chain when they finally listened to me. Nightmare and the reviews were good too.
Sorry your experience with the school you chose wasn’t a good one
Passed today with the school at pirelli and this video was a huge help, going to book some advanced training with you when I'm in the position to do so!
Congratulations! Glad it helped you :)

Nice vid. Clear commentary
Nice instructions
Thank you that’s kind of you to say
Don't you use indicators?
Hi Alice. No for a uturn there’s no requirement for indicators it could give false information to other road users (shouldn’t be any around but you may miss them) and they may thing you’re pulling away from the side of the road.
How do they go so slow and not wobble?
Practice makes perfect 😊. A combination of clutch control, throttle control, a bit of rear brake and balance. It’s quite easy once you’ve had a few goes
Another really helpful video. Your delivery of feedback is first class. Learning gold.
Thanks Phil 😊
I love the way you coach in the moment. Calm, helpful, non-judgemental. I have had a horrendous experience with an instructor who did little other than criticise, berate and convince me that everything I did would result in a fail. I wish I lived in Derbyshire.
Thanks Phil that’s very kind & much appreciated. Sorry you had a bad experience I always tell my instructors that we need to ensure our customers enjoy learning with us so to make it fun where possible & informative. If an instructor is shouting at you that instructor has run out of talent. Ride safe
@@dmsridertv that's great, and very encouraging. I've got some time tomorrow to go and talk to another school locally, so I'm keeping everything crossed that they are more like you than the last lot were! Thanks again for the vids - I'm about to sub! Cheers.
You’re very welcome Phil I hope you find someone who looks after you, let me know how you get on 👍
Brilliant! Massive congratulations to the lass👍😀. I don't know how long she's been riding bikes for but, in any case she did more than well.
Hi Keith about 18 months when we tackled the stelvio. She did great 😊
What did you make of the sound?
I thought it had a slight whistle but not much difference, however I always wear ear plugs so some frequencies I can’t hear.
Thank you for the nice video on the new BMW 1300 GS. Didn’t you find the bike too narrow, too slim, compared to the prior generation? The bike felt smaller in every aspect, it seems not so tall as well. The wind protection for our legs is non existent. Some of this things are good things to a lot of riders. The manners in town or centre big cities are easier I suppose, the fueling is impeccable, but the prior model was very smooth also. But I’m afraid the bike lost road presence…I’m not really sure about that but is a suspicion… The power train is a little more noisy but that is not even relevant, although it’s notorious . Can you elaborate your impressions about this things? Thanks a lot✌️✌️
Thanks for your questions. It’s undeniably smaller than the 1250. My last gs was a gsa so it’s much smaller than that. I sat in the trophy version and that felt quite tall compared to the triple black but that’s probably a higher seat I’m not sure if it’s actually a higher bike due to its more off road nature. Has it lost its road presence? Maybe but it’s still a big bike & the new headlight (like it or hate it) is very noticeable compared to most other bikes. It’s definitely smoother around town, the quick shifter is definitely better going down gears I couldn’t really see a difference going up the gears compared to the 1250. It is an excellent bike & it’s got a lot more pull from lower down. It’s a more sportier ride & it’s good fun.
@@dmsridertvthank you for your assertive answer. My actual bike is also a GSA rally, and I think I’m going to give the new bike a second try. My first impressions weren’t enthusiastic. But I tested the bike at night, it was a cold day, maybe that moment wasn’t the better day to try it… Thanks once more, and ride safe!✌️✌️
@@Fernando90054 yes give it another go. Try not to think of it as your usual gs it’s more of an evolution rather than a revolution. I was hoping I’d hate it but in all honesty i loved it.
So very proud! Big achievement for me! Thanks, Mark!!🏍❤️
You’re very welcome ☺️
The biggest of my recommendations for DMS! this video is massively useful. Thank you, Mark, and the biggest thanks to all of the team! ❤
Hey Dee thank you & huge congratulations on passing your test today!!! You absolutely deserve it. Always smiling & always taking onboard our help & guidance. Thanks for using DMS stay safe & hope to see you in the spring for your advanced course 😁. Take care
Sweet riding! Good luck, to all, on your riding exam.🤞🏽
Some solid advise, great instructor.
That’s very kind thank you 😊
Excellent
Thanks for your feedback
I wish I had done my part 2 at 17 but the figure 8 in the part 1 as I recall was super tight and needed to keep inside a small border having the additional space for it seems a bit more forgiving
There is a limit as to how wide you can go as it’s a steering exercise but it’s wider than most folk think. Thanks for your comment 😊
Brilliant video - very informative
Thank you 😊
Thanks. How far are the cones from each other please?
Hi yellow ones 5 meters apart, blue ones 6 meters. Thanks for watching
I just learn something new, I was definitely doing it wrong. Great video
Thank you 😊
Are you using clutch only, no throttle?
A combination of throttle & clutch
Keeping the throttle steady, above idle, hearing a nice rev, but not red lining and keeping the clutch in the friction zone. It takes practice. This is a fine instruction.✌🏾
All I heard was OK OK OK OK OK OK.
Ah ok 😂. It’s a habit taught us at instructor training school to get the trainees attention on the radio before we give them an instruction. After all these years it’s kinda ingrained into me. Thanks for your comment 👍
Very thorough instruction! Appreciate the pragmatic with the relationship between throttle/clutch, power/tractive effort applied. I believe this helps the rider to sort out a lot of other riding situations and road conditions. 👍
Thank you your kind comments are much appreciated
As a returning rider after 42 years, these videos are invaluable…..wish I had them back in the late 70s….very helpful, in my mind I am testing myself as to what needs to happen….thanks for sharing, brilliant help to all of us.
Thanks karl glad they’re helpful. The training school is incredibly busy at the moment so time is tight for me but I’ll be recording more soon & uploading them. Stay safe
Just felt my worries melt away, you examples and how you explain the use of both clutch and throttle are fantastic! Will definitely be follow for more in the future! cheers!
Thank you thats very kind 😊. New content next week once the weather clears up here
Really enjoy these videos! Good instruction and preparation. I do wonder though: why have riders gotten away from placing both feet on the ground whenever a stop is made? One would think the added balance and stability would automatically make it a recommended practice? Curious to know your thoughts on this 😊
Thanks for your kind words & comment. For shorter riders & those (like myself) on tall adventure bikes putting both feet on the floor is very much a necessity at times. The main reason for it is the Dvsa prefer this for there testing purposes & it also frees up the right hand for throttle control moving away. An applied brake at a standstill is very important though especially if you’re the last vehicle in the queue. Thanks again
Hi I am a new to motorcycle from India... Watching your video and try to learn techniques but I don't have any fancy motorcycle, i do have a 100cc or something splendor i3 smart .. if you post something about motorcycles in India then it would be a help to me... Anyways your videos are so informative,i am learning so much
Thanks for uploading. Did they both pass?
They have yes 😊
Is the learner on the yellow bike vaping at 7:25?
Yep. It’s not an issue whilst he’s not riding though
I used to vape as well when I was a student during my motorcycle courses, you're outdoor and you must wait for your turn quite often so I couldn't resist vaping. My teachers did not care either. (Plus, in France we do smoke/vape a lot)
I'll be putting in for my Mod1 and Mod2 soon (currently 'zipping' around on my Zontes 125) - vids like this are very useful. Thanks.
You're very welcome thanks for watching and subscribing. Hopefully the weather picks up soon and I'll be able to add more content. Good luck with your training and tests
Too short. I am afraid I missed the point! The shooting analogy lost me.
Basically you don’t pull the trigger on a gun if it’s not pointing at the target. So don’t pull the trigger (the throttle) on your bike until you’re pointing at your target (ie the road direction you wait the bike to go) of you pull the trigger too soon you’re heading into trouble. Hope that helps? Thanks for your comment
So awesome thanks
You’re very welcome ☺️
I'm not sure if im a bit weird but i really enjoy watching these type of video's even though i have a full licence because I think they are a fantastic format to show new riders what is involved and I also think there is so much to gain by watching them even as a seasoned rider ... Really good content
That’s really kind thank you. If my videos help others or remind them of good practice it’s great & worthwhile doing. Thanks again much appreciated
@@dmsridertv you are very welcome amigo ... It's a fantastic way to put it out there to folk what is involved . The primary objective being to guide the student into realising that the whole course is about their safety on the road on 2 wheels ... Well done mate .. Cracking
@@GTC123. You're absolutely right, thanks again ☺
Im guessing this guy is who is a moron, safest instruction is inbetwwe moron, keep an eye on the rear just for him to follow and judge the front then when doing the same test the second you tool he is shit
Motor bikes are nice!
To be honest I thought I did ok as normally I can't find my way out of a paper bag without sat nav 🤣🤣🤣
😂 you’re certainly getting there (where is always a mystery though 😂)
Just ride in the middle of the road and stop trying to overtake everybody.
The middle of the road is often the safest place to ride (though not always there’s many reasons to also not ride there). Overtaking when done correctly is perfectly safe & legal. Appreciate your comment 👍.
