Does the Duesenberg Les Trem work as well as advertised on a Les Paul?
Today I am seeing if it's possible to add a good trem system to my old Les Paul without doing any permanent modifications. Will it work as advertised?

Wood Library vs 10 Top - What's the Difference?
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
I've seen lots of confusion and mis-information online about what PRS uses the Wood Library and 10 Top terminology for. I was wrong about a few things as well, but I was able to get some answers from the local PRS dealer and sales rep. So hopefully this helps clear up some questions others may have as well.

Breathing new life into my first guitar

This is the first guitar I ever owned, a 1998 Epiphone Les Paul Custom in Alpine White There is nothing particularly unique about this guitar, and it has been neglected for far too long. So I decided to put a set of very unique pickups in it, and suddenly I am playing it a lot more frequently now.

EVH Wolfgang hard shell case review
I'm all for the SE. And this isn't just a PRS thing. In general I'm all for the "budget brands" from these major manufacturers. Guitar prices are out of control for American made Gibson/Fender/etc. There are gazillions of "budget brand" guitars out there in the 400-800 dollar range that are perfectly great guitars and Jimi Hendrix would make them sound great with his playing. I've owned a ton of really expensive guitars over my 20+ years of playing guitar and in general I don't ever buy the major brand names anymore. You get to a point where you realize that you're likely paying double for superfluous shit like the headstock, the brand name, some "flame maple" top or slightly more expensive hardware that is not worth the premium and can be replaced by you.
I own 3 cores , 3 S2, and 3 SEs… i would say as long as the S2 has proper US pickups , yes . Yes , it is . But they are all good . All punch WAY above price points
the factor that is big for me? US JOBS. Simple as that. American's built it - that's what I want.
Great video Sir, I'm a new subscriber here
The one thing that helps before you put the new bridge on, adjust each roller to about the same distance as on your old bridge. It will be a lot easier to adjust the intonation afterwards. If we look the old bridge at 03:07 and the rollers on the new one, your intonation must be off. I have an Explorer with a Kahler trem. You can play it without locking the strings at the nuts but by locking them It stays in tune. The Kahler has rollers and 2 fixed coils under. It responds the same all the time. You need to lock the string at the nut for stability. Your trem is basically the same. The spring or coil always responds the same. If you lock the strings, there is no reason that after a dive it won't come back to the original position. It still works fine but you retune more often.
Why didn’t you try to do this on the crunch mode rather than overdrive ? Isn’t crunch less gain. Also with a single coil would be a better variable
Vibrato
This is a beautiful looking piece but not very functional the bottom portion of it arches out when you use heavier gauge strings and tuning it's just impossible. I guess if you only use oo7 or 008 gauge you will ok
u think u can do the same with nitro satin finish? I got two guitars with satin finish, one is nitro
Can you do it to the neck too
It’s never going to dull. Satin is rougher and doesn’t reflect light directly. Gloss is smoother and does reflect light more directly. What you did was smooth the satin down to a gloss. Left to natural wear and tear, satin will smooth down to be more glossy/shiny on its own. You accelerated the process and made it more uniform. It’s not going to go back to satin. If anything, it’ll smooth out even more.
Interesting. I accidentally smoothed areas of my satin guitar by mistakenly using the wrong cleaning product. Now I have to decide if I should try to rough the smoothed areas back to a satin or polish the whole thing down to a uniform smooth glossy finish. Your results look really good. But I’m still scared. Wish I could just undo my initial mistake. 😕
bla, bla, bla ............
So technically speaking, is it a 2022 Wood Library? Sincerely wondering as the owner of a 2022 Wood Library Modern Eagle V. I'm wondering if mine is a true one of one.
A small amount of time and investment for a huge return. Great tip! So simple too. Have a satin finished FG. It was the only thing I didn’t like about the guitar. Only had it a couple of months and they come out with a fully gloss version for a couple hundred more! Grrrrrr! I’m so pissed. Lol! Thank you ❤
do you have a pic - and what exactly did you use
@ What are you talking about? I didn’t use anything. Did you actually read my comment or do you just not understand English?
I’m truly impressed. Thank you so much brother ❤
Absolutely gorgeous man! I’ll tell you a guitar I’d love to have would be an original Modern Eagle with one of those incredible denim jean finishes. To me they’re still the most beautiful guitars PRS has made to date.
I just bought a Modern Eagle V from this same batch of dealer selections that has a faded blue jean 10 top and also a faded blue jean flamed maple neck. It's insanity. It arrives tomorrow. Will wait until Friday to open to allow for it to acclimate to temperature conditions.
I'm "late" but wanted to thank you for this. I cannot stand "satin" finishes on guitars and now I have more options!
Exactly the kind of review I was looking for. $59.99 right now at GC!
I bought it for 200$ what
I gotta say, after having this exact guitar and now having specials, the specials are better. The floyd special on the standard is shite. I would always break strings on it and it would always go outta tune. The frets were definitely not as polished as my specials. The specials seem to just have better qc overall. Also the toggle switch on my specials are stronger? The toggle on my standard was loose feeling and no resistance when switching pickups. I do miss the ziricote look though and the feel of the neck. The neck on the standards is in fact smaller than the specials. The specials has the same profile but it's a tad bit thicker than the standard unfortunately
4:54 use some paper or tissue or teflon to make it fit.
I have a squire strat guitar with a either satin finished or unfinished maple neck and fretboard. Can I just tape off the frets and spray some gloss clear coats, then buff ? over the satin ? or just use polishing compound on the fret board and buff ? Thanx
Great video. I have a Gibson Les Paul Faded which I am thinking of doing the same thing on. I am not sure if the lacquer is thick enough. Slightly worried about rubbing through. What do you think?
I use the headrush as it's the best sounding one out of the ones I've tried.
Hmm does the scarf joint ever brk? Im about to purchase a beautiful Egg Blue S2. Thx
I have had mine for a few years now, and never had an issue. The S2 seems to be very well made.
@@IamMusicNerd Ok great thx
Very nice. Good video 👍🏻
Thank you!
I was just wondering this exact thing. I have an epiphone korina Flying V 2024 inspired by Gibson series. It had a satin finish which I really don’t love. I noticed after playing it for a while the back of the neck turned glossy from playing it so much as if my hand was buffing it out.
Deusenberg les trem 2 classic looking too next step trem for glue in Angle neck guitar . Not like other big block trem . Deusenberg les trem +other trem are amazing. I had two Versions bigsby one on my les paul setit up right Grease up at nut . Stretch the strings it play so well . . This one I had on gretsch and les paul . Deusenberg should make a b3 Cooperating that style set lower if play it Further back . Got good, Break angle to work Deusenberg make great guitar too ant parts
I wonder if a matte guitar will look better after buffing.
Great video, was helpful!!!
Thank you!
Are you using the eris speaker as a Cab for the mini head?
Push downs only is only half a trem ;( These types of "tremolos" should be called "string slackeners" as that would be a more accurate term for them. These types of units have very little travel upwards, but if you're happy with push-downs only, then you may like this. But if you want a proper tremolo/whammy then get a StetsBar.
I'm a heavy tremolo user, and I will share you a secret that works in all kinds of tremolos... always after some abuse, finish the tremolo use with some upward final move. Always finish with an up move, and your tuning stability will improve A LOT. Just try it !!!. I have all my tremolos full floating, and this is my secret to stay always in tune.
My S2 is way better quality than the SE’s I own, and I enjoy my SE’s, but my S2 Custom 24-08 is just 🎯🎯🔥with the USA pickups!!!!
pretty rough video but does a great job of showing how easy it is. as a metal guy that's sick of the satin black guitar trend i appreciated this
I usually pick and change the volume pot with my little finger so I believe this bridge will stay in the way... because it's too high
I bought a PRS ce and have been very happy with it it just feels like higher quality than the S2
NO
Nice video. Satin guitars get shiny spots over time from playing so when that happens I'm gonna try this.
is it safe to do this on a coloured guitar body? i read somewhere that applying wood polish/wax to guitars with a satin finish can make it look blotchy - creating patches of lighter colour all over the body
That’s a good question. Most of my guitars are a natural wood color, so I don’t have a satin finished guitar with a darker color that I can try it on. But if I ever do, I will update this to let you know.
I believe those are 85/15S pickups in the SE. The G&B makers mark on the back is a giveaway. They made the S pickups in two different places, and one of them manufactures them slightly different. Supposedly the S2's version is slightly better, but I've had them both and dislike them both. They just sound weak and flat. Also, the output test you did at the end, you had the toggle switch in the upward position on the S2, which is the split position. That's why your resistance was halved.
I’m getting a satin SG in two days (saturday 3/8/2024) and hope this works
Did it work? I also plan on doing this on my satin Epiphone SG.
It also really pulls out the grain, making both the light and dark grain lines richer. My only reservation is that if there is something in the compound that "removes" the original finish. I suppose it doesn't really matter as it is offering a protection to the wood all its own. I have a satin Taylor that I think could look a lot nicer if it was shined up a bit.
All compounds have abrasives just different grits
Just wondering if you have ever seen a Modern Eagle V with alder body with maple cap around. Super curious how it'd sound like.
I have not seen one of those yet. The Core Modern Eagle V pretty much only comes with mahogany body. The ones that have different woods were usually custom orders from guitar shops via the Wood Library or a private stock order, which costs a lot more. But it is possible somebody ordered one with that configuration. I will keep my eyes open.
Much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time.
Now I don't have this trem, but I would think other things used in conjunction with this tremolo would aid in tuning stability, if a person decides to go this route, which would include a GraphTech nut, or some kind of lube nut or roller nut, and locking tuners...ensuring the strings are pulled and stretched, the tuned up to pitch, then repeating the process: pull/ stretch, retune, until the strings show to be not going out anymore when pulling on them...this would all aid in tuning stability if this device is decided on being used...I think it's a cool option if you don't want to wood route/ mod the guitar, and keep it as "return to original" as possible. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much!, now im on my way to polish my satin epiphone sg!!
