Plotting my Escape from the UK
Переглядів 8867 годин тому
OK guys, let's talk about leaving the UK. As we all know, the UK is not in a great place right now. For a multitude of reasons. There are greener pastures abroad and as a young (ish) British man, I feel like there is a better life out there somewhere. Is it time I let the explorer in my British blood take over and gamble with starting a new life abroad? YES, yes it is. I'm thinking about moving...

There's a lot of waffle around "roadcraft" but I think it can be summed up with 2 things really: Vision and Distance. It's about getting vision of the road as much as possible and making yourself visible. And then it's about managing your distance to other vehicles properly. In this little motovlog I think I sum it up properly! Like the camera quality? It's an Insta360 Ace Pro 2, check it out h...
The misunderstanding about "covering the brakes"

Motovlog, there is a weird myth about covering the controls that I talk about and poke fun at in this video. People are riding around with their hands contorted into weird positions to "cover the brakes" which ends up being counter-productive. Like the camera quality? Well, my youtube channel is finished. In this motovlog I talk about the mistakes I've made when building my youtube channel and my audience (subscriber base). Looking at youtube channel analytics i've built an audience interested in too many different topics. In the future this will be a motovlogging channel with some riding videos in good locations, we'll throw in the odd review here and there...

"Prime get mugged territory." ---> Shifts into neutral. :D
If your young and can do it then go for it. UK is in desperate trouble so faced with expensive housing, high tax, institutional corruption and lack of opportunity i strongly recommend pissing off!
I assume you are at a more advanced stage than I am where anything less powerful than the current bike seems like a huge downgrade, so your only choice is either the same power or faster lol. Ive also been listening to a lot of The Prodigy lately although I stopped listening to music on the bike a while ago.
I jumped from my ZX10R to a friend's VFR800 a little while back and pinned the throttle, waiting for the power, just to see it was already at redline 😅😅
@@StormTEC Its proper messing me up because I want something for off-road but I can't help but think every bike is too slow.
@SloboloboVFR there are powerful adv bikes but they are expensive as hell I think off road bikes aren't supposed to be high power though! Still something I need to try eventually
@@StormTEC I kinda need something slow to learn on its just hard to look at a bike with 25hp and want to ride it.
@ lmao for sure. You have a van though yeah? Chuck the bike in the back of the van and drive to the off-road areas. That's what most real off-roaders do I think! Then 25hp is probably enough to have fun
happiest man in the uk
Fkn probably well up there in the rankings! LOL
I'm also from the UK. Lived in Switzerland for 5 years, then returned last year. I'm astounded at how hard it's been, still unable to find work as a Software Engineer with around 10 years of experience. I'm now planning to return to Switzerland, though it's now harder. Wishing you success with your relocation to Japan. Keep moving, you'll find your way. Peace
Where is the best meal deal in the UK?
some poor kid got killed at school its horrific daily
@Lewis-dq2xb that's what I mean man, i think we're desperate for any positive news
japan sounds good until you dont have to live there from a domestic salary, uk will look like dubai after that.
@_vindicator_ kind of true, hoping youtube will make some money there 🙏
@StormTEC i guess if you do bike content there it would still do good numbers
DEI = DIE 100%
I’m a Uni student and visited Japan in September. 100% considering moving there after graduation,
Police always high beaming. Wankers.
Pretty much all the bad news can be related to mass immigration and it ain't gonna get any better.
Get out while your passport still has meaning. Im young too but I am fortunate to be dual citizen as my mum is polish, coming back to the UK sometimes to visit my parents and siblings is shocking, I don't recognise the place I grew up at all.
Poland is a great country, came a long way in such a short time
👍
Yup, I'm also from the UK and a biker too. Completely agree with everything you said. Everything is fucked here. I can't blame people for leaving. I just wish I had more skills to get me hired abroad. I've already completed a trade course in carpentry at college. But it hasn't helped my job prospects in the UK at all.
Myself and the vast majority of my friends never got a job doing what they studied in college or uni, it's turned into a bit of a scam.
heck yeah hit me up when you get your vfr stable
Riding through newport 👌
Risking it all haha
I live here too 😂
I did consider it as my first bike, glad I went for the ER6F instead. Much lighter, nimbler, easier to maintain and ride and more comfortable. Taught me that I want something sportier, more powerful and naked and I'm pretty sure I would've struggled much more with the Viffer. Still a beautiful sounding and looking bike and great value but just too much of a boat.
@@emromw the weight is the definitely the biggest downside I would love the v4 engine in a lighter frame
My ZX-12R makes it 5,5L/100Km. Gearing was 17&47. PC3USB has -27% for idle run. Still going strong.
Might have a fiddle with my power commander map 😁
I've had my ZX12ra1 since 2000. I'm now 65 and it's still comfortable. I've been been all over Europe. Oxford panniers and a wet bag on the passsenger seat. Brakes need sorted. I fitted a brembo lever and master cylinder to my front brakes. I run individual braided lines to each caliper directly . The six pots are good and well up to the job. If you have the original tool kit it has a specific tool for removing the spark plugs. The Zx12ra1 was way ahead of its time . Never wanted or needed another bike. There are nothing out there that can compare . I will never sell her.
I think it was ahead of it's time too. I've got a waterproof bag for the passenger seat and fixed the brakes completely with the ZX10R radial master! I can send myself over the windscreen now lol I'll have to look into the spark plug tool if there are still some laying around. ZX14R might have a similar one? It was a pain in the ass to do! Only complaint I have about it now is the fuel consumption but the smiles per mile kind of make up for it
Gorgeous video, great for daydreaming ♥ Haven't ridden in 15 years, just redoing my expired license and excited to be on a bike again!
What bike ya gonna get?
Not sure... Considering the ZX12R, it's a better sportsbike for my 1.93m height (and 120kg weight), and since I comfortably handled the Fireblade's power years ago (and have the Autobahn)... But since it's been years, and I'm now 45, maybe something more upright. I saw some good sports-tourer deals, like an affordable Aprilia Futura. We'll see 😊
@ Never seen that bike before actually, but it looks a lot similar to the VFR 800 VTEC, definitely give one a try!
I'm curious: I heard a lot of ZX-12R owners go down a sprocket size in the front for stronger pull/push. Does that make sense to you? Is the first gear too high/long?
@oliverhallbauer6179 no point on that, she already wants to lift the front if you pin it and that would kill the already low MPG 😅
Nope, no guilt for encouraging the hobby. But I'd make sure to really push the safe riding agenda: defensive riding, protective gear, rider training, bike maintenance etc. People have no issues encouraging the many exciting dangerous hobbies that can kill or disable you, such as skiing, horseback riding, and many more!
Thats why I never ever 'get someone into it' I just ride my bike without saying anything and let them when they are ready ask me stuff about it.
Sorry but if you wanted comfort and luggage, you brought a sport/muscle bike you should have brought a tourer! Also the later models had radial brakes which fixed the squishy lever issues of the early models
I bought a bag that goes on the rear seat and I replaced the master cylinder with a ZX10R master and am happy that both of those issues are now resolved 😅
NO
Try and not be negative bro be abit more positive its a choice be happy. Every country has its quirks. I'm studying Irish language, im about 30 mins from Donegal. But Its insanely difficult to live in Japan as a foreigner, they dont tend to warm to foreigners as much, you be an english teacher there. Social life is a challenge, many landlords refuse to rent to foreigners even if you speak native. Japan is not a cyber punk anime paradise. Foreigners dont tend to stay for long. But in saying that all go for it reach the skies.
I used to live there for a whole year before and did just fine. Very welcoming and kind people. Never had a problem! Lot's of people tried to make me feel as welcome as possible, always wanted to ask me how I liked Japan etc etc! Only problem really was the work culture was kind of intense! I feel like there is a lot of stuff online which is sensationalist about the country which doesn't actually reflect on the reality, if you get me?
I'd certainly feel bad, in the same way as getting a friend into spicy food and they die of an allergy. But I'm not telling everyone to eat only porridge and vitamin pills either 🏍
I feel safest riding by myself
Big true, stops you competing with each other
Would be hard not to feel guilty but everyone has free will it was their choice to ride.
Oh you like Japan? Name every anime ever

I'm buying a used 2019 Honda CB500F on finance after I sell my Zontes. No more chinese bikes.
My first big bike was a 500x, I think you'll like the 500f especially coming from a 125 :) It's a very sensible bike mind you 😂
@StormTEC yea was gonna go for the CB300R but probably would need extra power for overtaking, accelerating out of danger. But I wouldnt want anything more than a 500. Keep it light and flickable.
I'm pretty sure my fifth gen power wheelied when I was getting after it. I eased off rather than get the tire up but my front end definitely lifted.
Happened in first gear yeah but only when I was taking the piss 😂
Do you feel power increase with akrapovic?
Absolutely, it has a power commander as well. Probably gained like 15-20hp
@@StormTEC After a whole year of hunting i finally got my full akra exhaust but can't install it until i pass tehnical inspection on april. I Was thinking about power commander but im afraid if that won't screw up my engine over time since it's super healthy at 61000kms
@ If anything the power commander will help. If you change the exhaust the fuel mixture will likely be too rich or too lean, causing overheating, carbon buildup etc. This one has 65,000 km on it!
@@StormTEC From the owners have heard plenty that zx12r runs quite rich on stock because of ram air etc. The akrapovic itself doesnt recomend it or there is a fairing melting like muzzy etc
It really is a missile.. I have a green/rip decals A2 with just 4900 miles.. I have the same exhaust fitted as yours, a full Ti Akrapovic. I have the oem exhaust bubble wrapped and stored. I have 6 other bikes, but the ZX12R is one of my favourites. 😎 Those of us who own ZX12R’s know what we have.. I love the thing. Last of the old school analogue missiles! 🔥 Nice to see others video and promote the mighty 12R 👌🏼
I wonder what those lines on the road are for? Meh who cares🤭
Probably made for slow things or something yeah
Here for the ZX-12R videos. You're on the right track with what you said (even if this is my least favorite video).
Yes thank you for putting this out, Ive been in numerous arguments with mongo's about this, heard all the standard rebuttals, even when I mention 'Well how do you safley & effectively accelerate & change gear with 2 fingers constantly hanging on the break" Mongo's! You cover the breaks when necessary like junctions, not all the time, only exceptions I can think of is when filtering , I might do a post about this subject also on my channel, Cheers & subbed! Ride safe
Yeah, you don't drive around with your left foot on the clutch and your right foot covering brake whilst accelerating with your heel, so why do it on a bike?
Idk man you clearly have no idea how people ride with two finger brake cover or why and don't even give an argument throughout the vid other than that you need to release the throttle before braking and that you have no throttle control, just moaned about "it's stupid" "it's silly" for the whole video. The only two points you made above are wrong lmao, releasing the throttle while braking in the (comfortable and just as controllable if you're used to it) cover position is easy and the whole thing is still quicker to start prog braking overall. Thinking you are always going to be aware of every danger and with plenty of time spare to pre cover is naive, sure you can predict easy obvious shit like intersections but instantaneous car swerves, hard braking from the car in front of you on your commute, covering the brake is literally taught in adv riding courses as the safer technique to speed up reaction time. Your whole argument is "I'm not used to it so I feel less in control and therefore it is stupid and anyone riding like that is stupid". If you have learned to hold like that and practiced it you do not have any discomfort or worse throttle control, only the benefits you clearly don't understand
It’s pretty crazy how confident some riders can be while being completely wrong
The question to ask would be, driving a manual car, do you cover the clutch and brake while driving? No, because how would you? You use them when needed.
Mechanics love drivers that cover the clutch whilst driving
I feel you man, I went for a ride today and I couldn't feel my fingers after half an hour. Also generally the road conditions were fine, but then there were some patches of ice and I almost binned my bike because of it. Not going out for a ride again unless it's 10 degrees or more...
Can't properly open up this bike on slippery roads either if you get my drift 😂
Your camera is insane man😳😳
It's epic yeah, the new Ace Pro 2, hopefully will make a lot of great videos this year when the sun comes out
As a 80kg male I find the zx12r too heavy for regular riding. The steering is too heavy and my hands get tired after riding it. It's only great for speeds of over 100km/h. Front brakes are weak. I will be selling it this summer and getting a lighter cbr600f instead.
Interesting, on mine the handlebars are raised a couple of inches and I've replaced the brake master cylinder with a ZX10R (2009) radial master cylinder. Also after putting new tyres on the bike it practically falls into corners now, can steer with 1 finger
@@StormTEC hmm odd. I never even tried proper corners since it's way too heavy and my first "big boy" bike after 600ccs. I feel like it could use a straight handlebar conversion kit to have more leverage on the steering. Or maybe my suspension is set up wrong but yeah. Also lost my license on it so im going back to 600ccs 🤣
@ haha nooo how did they get you?
@ was testing out the speedometer and a motorcycle cop was waiting 😂
@ At least the numbers were impressive then!
When I was a wooden top (retired 15 years ago [early]), i had the benefit of all the driving courses. Each course brings new things in to play and "re-teaches" you what you think you know. And then there's the different instructors.
I might make my own course, "how to ride like a total maniac and get away with it" 😆
@StormTEC well, you're still alive, so I'd say you taught yourself well.
proof that confidence != being correct. revzilla/the shop manual just put out a good video on this, i'd encourage you to go watch it
If I see someone covering the brake and/or clutch for no reason I always assume they are a shit rider. Older europeans tend to do it and yanks do it all the time
I've been seeing it on American bike crash videos
@@StormTEC cause they are shit riders
Amazing how people self report being a shit rider while trying to call others shit riders. Take any adv riding course and they will teach you to cover the brake and will actually give reasons why leaving it uncovered is worse rather than just whining "it's shit" "it's stupid" without explanation like you guys. Throttle control is just as good once you get used to it and releasing the throttle as you start braking is still easy. All you get is improved reaction time for unexpected events. Thinking you can just pre-cover when you predict danger like going through an intersection is so naive, you really gonna do that when the car in front of you slams on the brakes? Something like 80% of motorcycle crashes the rider doesn't even use the front brake at all, they happen that fast (ref f9 vid on abs).
@ it’s not thought on ROSPA it’s not thought on iam. Police are also not thought to do this. The only time you do it is when you’re anticipating hazards. Why would you cover it on a straight road? You seem to be missing the part in the comments above and in the video where it says to do it.
@@sugggggon and yes it identifies tou as a shit rider who can read the road or plan ahead
This is purely down to preference. I ride with my palms almost flat like resting on a mouse, covering the clutch with four fingers and the brake with two, everywhere. It's comfortable (try placing your hand in a rest position on your desk or chair palm down, the way it lands is in a natural position. It doesn't rest balled up in a fist like your clutch hand does. Two fingers over the brake prevents me from 'whiskey-throttle'. Every now and then I try holding the throttle like you out of interest and it feels dreadful, the throttle feels abrupt and jerky, going over potholes or bumps can cause a slight blip of the throttle. I grew up cycling road bikes and I covered both brake levers with both hands and that habit carried over. You'll also see people who hold the throttle like you sometimes roll onto the throttle in order to reach their fingers over the brake when they panic if their levers are too close, so covering the brake constantly can reduce the time it takes to go from throttle to brake and there's no vague guessing where the brake is in an emergency, because you're already on it just in case. Again, this is preference. What seems 'weird' to you feels natural to us, and the way you hold the throttle looks unnatural to us. Different strokes for different folks.
It's not a preference, it's incorrect.
