PT Boat Channel - PT Boat Videos from World War II - Elco, Higgins, and Huckins PT Boats or known as Motor Torpedo Boats. PT 109, PT37, PT41. In other countries, this type of boat or service was known as Motor Torpedo Boats, actually, the U.S. Navy classification for these boats was Motor Torpedo Boats. PT boats were just as a short a nickname.
PT Boat Training Film
An 8-minute, U.S. government produced training film promoting the Motor Torpedo Boat service. The actual title is “The PT Boat, Their Place in the Navy”. It features Lieutenant Commander John D. Bulkeley addressing a new group of recruits at the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Training Center, Melville, Rhode Island. The video continues by narration depicting many typical scene where recruits are trained at skills for their MOS for the PT boat service. The boats used in the film include later models of Elco 77-foot and early Higgins 78-foot boats.

“GAINT KILLERS” - The Story of the Elco PT Boats This video takes viewers through the manufacturing process of typical Elco 80-foot Motor Torpedo Boats. Elco had previously designed and built 70 and 77-foot boats based predominately on the British design of Hubert Scott-Payne’s (British Power Boat Company) PV70. With a limited production of the earlier boats, and because of Navy requirements, E...

A Warner Brothers produced Hollywood Gung-Ho WWII film of the U.S. Navy Motor Torpedo Boat Service (PT). The short film follows a new officer recruit, Bob Palmer, through the Navy’s Melville, Rhode Island, Motor Torpedo Boat Training Center, and culminating in his nearly single hand win over the Japanese Navy. Well, maybe this is a little over dramatization on my part, but clearly evident while...

PT Boat Video by ELCO during World War II. Elco (The Elco Naval Division) Bayonne, New Jersey, produced the largest number of PT boats for the US Navy during WWII. Other manufacturers were Higgins in New Orleans and Huckins in Jacksonville, Florida. The most produced Elco PT was the 80-foot boat, the same type, PT 109, lost by John F. Kennedy during WWII.
I realize that these boats were built for the purpose of fighting a war . But , it still rings true that those boats were built back in the days when workers took pride in their work , and cared about the job they did . Too bad that those kinds of efforts aren't carried through today . It breaks my heart when I think about all of the boats that were burned at their moorings , because the U.S. Navy wouldn't spend the money to ship them back home . And , would not sell the demilitarized hulls to civilians after the war .
Fascinating. Wounded and scared to death ... but kept fighting. The very definition of Courage. 💪 ^v^
Awesome video always been a fan of the PT boats. Most of the PT crews are sadly at the end of they're lives as are those craftsman & craftswomen who built those mighty boats. They are all Patriots.
Amazing video.american History
Robert Montgomery and John Wayne show off the PT boats in fine form in, They Were Expendable (1945). It was director, John Ford's first movie after being released from the Navy and Robert Montgomery had served on PT boats.
He don'tlook like William Holden. What's up with that?!
Some look with despair to the current state of the country, I know what you’re seeing. Previous foes have looked at the country and seen decadence and softness, it was their mistake. I have no fear that when the time calls for it, people will come together, pull together, and once again, get the job done.
2:05 that is one monster size slide rule.
That PT boat hull is one of the most beautiful, graceful shapes to ever hit the water and is a benchmark that is still used today
The movie PT109 which was JFK's PT boat was filmed in the Florida Keys.
5:41 "It's a Wooden Boat: Mahogany from Africa and Honduras, white oak from Jersey, Brazilian balsa, maple, fir. Burmese teak, West Coast Cedar, Wisconsin Birch, Alaska and Canadian Spruce, Ash, Poplar and Heavy Greenheart from the Guineas"
Designs came from the UK, initially
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video. That was a time when the best of our predecessors gave their all to defeat evil and tyranny in the world. This is just one example of the Herculean efforts made by our grand parents and great grand parents. We shall remember them.
Depth charges were bad ass
Wish I could have a PT BOAT. 😊
😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
Our torpedoes didn't work
It’s hard to believe that the boat was in that bad of shape. It was launched in July 1942 and did not arrive in the South Pacific until late 1942. It was Sunk in August of 1943. So 7 to 9 months old basically. And it was sunk 13 months after first being launched from the ship builders.
THANKS!!!!!! Love it!!!!
The PT boat Squadron Kennedy was with , sent out multiple boats on patrol in the sane area at once. There are many other statements from others, who were on Patrol from that Squadron the night Kennedy's PT boat was ran over by a Japanese warship. One such statement was that: the nights had been warm and humid. Which induced sleep on many of the PT boats crews. He surmised, that is what happened to Kennedy's crew. They were asleep, and that is how they were unaware of. the approach of a warship, at night on a foggy night. I personally witnessed in the 80's the entire bridge watch, All completely asleep, on a hot humid Day in very calm waters in the Arabian Gulf of a US Destroyer.
Brilliant
Robert montgomery served on them in ww2!
Why does it show a photo of Charles Harris at Kennedy's Inaugural Parade in 1961, but also earlier shows his photo as being KIA on the 109?
Andrew Kirksey was from taylor county ga. I know his nephew.
❤Congratulations! We can actually hear those magnificent engines. Not some lousy sound that some idiot confuses for music!
PT boat パトロール ト−ピ−ド ボ−ト japanese 魚雷艇!
I've worked in a few wooden boat yards before. Before epoxy we used resorsanol. That wasn't the keel it was the Stem. In Morehead NC the original charter boat Captain Stacy was a converted PT.
America is afraud 🖕
Sea shadow fast attack. Iran is on the chopping block.
General Macarthur finaggeled himself a Medal of Honour for running away in a PT boat from the Philippines. He also was well known for keeping a Phillipino 16yr old girl, a minor movie star as his sex mistress. All facts about this guy are easily verifiable.
Time for the Sea shadow/renew DR Dent astrophysics rocketeledyne owner
Huckins also built them in Jacksonville Florida
Higgins Boat Company 😄
@@calvingifford9442 , Higgins and Huckins, Two different builders. Huckins is still building boats in Jax, Fl
Great Rhode Island accomplishment !
Mahogany plywood! 8 x 4 x 3/4 is a $100 a sheet these days.
Only 531 PT boats actually saw service in WW2. for those relatively small numbers they had quite an effect.
9.1k 👍 thanks 4 the memory
Lovely.. Phenol resins in huge quantities and no respiratory protection !!! Don't want to know, how many workers died of cance later...
As soon as the War was over, the rights Women had were quickly taken away and promptly sent back to the Kitchen to be Man's servant again. They built and tested Bombers. They should have had their own Women's Air Force. Blacks were not included either. Not such a great America. Only for the White Guy who takes all the credit. BS
Isn't amazing what lengths we go to when the crisis is a war, while poverty and , of this, homelessness has little cachet?
I was station at the amphibious base in Saint Coronado Island 1970 I used to run on a PT boat out of there.
Check out Erwin Chase with his Slide Rule @ 1:55. Far superior to the Abacus, it got NASA to the moon. Those darn rascally Europeans and their American cousins...
My dad was with the 41st Recon group on Biak..PT boats would come and ferry soldiers around the island and looked for Japanese soldiers
My daddy was a Seabee on the island of Guam....I not only have his name, but my moma gave me his dog tags which I wear proudly. Love all the boats of the US NAVY...God bless America!!
Electric Boat? Trump and his 🦈 shark stories in this?
Biden claims that his uncle was eaten by cannibals.
to ht extent did ELCO continue making cabin cruisers, etc sfter WWll? I remember seeing them
Cool wooden hull.. Diesal inboards...i need one
😂😂😂
Some here have sucked down way too much flouride.
To those that ride those PT Boats that never came back; I salute them and thank them for giving all!
I don't think the United States could manufacture boats like these today; the skills in the numbers needed do not exist.
They build boats just like this every day. Jarrett Bay, Merritt and many more use pretty much the same techniques with modern adhesives and coating.
This is basically amoral building film to show the people in the states. Most the time PT boats were at base during the daytime. If you close enough to see a battleship you were within easy range of its escorts.
