It was a beautiful day in Las Vegas, so I decided to take the Stromer ST7 to Red Rock Canyon, which has been a goal of mine. The ride was surprisingly difficult, even on an electric bike, for at least 55% of the ride was uphill. This video was filmed on the Insta360 AcePro in 4K60, and the GPS remote was used for overlays. The Electra Townie Go with the 8 speed internal rear transmission is the finest ebike on the planet, especially for big riders over six ft, no worries about the battery burning down your house, super long range with the 500 watt battery, but its the flat foot geometry that blows my mind. Until you ride this particular model you won't understand but after five thousand miles its truly amazing. Its the suburban ot chevy Tahoe of pedal assist ebikes.

    I'm sorry from a excerise standpoint this bike do 80-90 % the work for you and it's pedalling for optics. a normal light bike without engine and weight is way better for the goal exercise.

    • @jasonlynch9979
      @jasonlynch9979 6 днів тому

      Hi Darkstar. Thanks for watching and your comments. First, I agree with you 100% that the two are incomparable. However, I'd like to give you some context about my view on exercise regarding this bike and how it has benefited me. To give you some background, I played water polo for a champion-winning team in high school for two years, which meant 5 a.m. daily practices and 4 p.m. games. In addition, I rode my bike to and from school and work about 20 miles per day (way before electric bikes existed), so I understand exercise. As I got older (I am 54 now), I hated exercise, I focused on the wrong things, I had multiple surgeries, and life just got in the way. My highest weight was 260 lbs. Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I changed my diet and dropped down to 245lbs. I would go to the gym and would hate it. I would try to swim again and hated that. I had a regular bike and would be lucky to ride 1 mile, which was no fun. I bought the Stromer last July, and since then, I have been riding every day (weather permitting) and absolutely love it. As I stated in the video, finding a bike that did not have a throttle was essential because the goal was to move. I can ride further and stay out longer, and even using your estimation of 10% - 20% effort on my part, that is way more than what I was doing, and I am consistent. Depending on how long I stay out, I can burn 400-1000 calories per ride, my legs are sore, my heart rate is in my target range, I sweat, and my core is stronger. There is a mental aspect to riding as well; the experience is fun. I miss it when I don’t get to ride, and as of today, I am down to 195 lbs., where regular activity is part of my regimen. I feel better at 54 than I did at 44, and I still have a way to go towards my target, but I am having fun getting there. So, my point in all this is if there is someone I can connect with in a similar situation, this is a way that you can get out and have fun while moving your body. Slow progress is progress, but with this bike, the ride is at a faster speed . Thank you again, and ride safe.

      @@jasonlynch9979 Yes for the context its exercising for your circumstances I could complete understand please don't misunderstand me. I think about regular people without living in this weather conditions and health issues etc. they maybe fit better with a normal bike wihout engine and challenge themself without any help what they really don't need. I have a colleague with diabetes type 2, asthma, now below 265 lbs and he has starting is journey a half year ago of with walking and hiking and he has still fun. Yes every activity is worth it no matter what. From my european prospective this bike you called it tesla I think it's more a cybertruck. Also in my country this bikes very limited you can't use it compare to smaller limited speed e-bikes 15.5 mph. I think you can't use it without the smallest driver licence and you can't use it on a normal bike path you have to use the regular street that's all makes it not really appeling for the regular bike riders. Rules and regulations sometimes makes no real sense. Thanks and have fun on your rides 🙂

      Hi... It is an amazing bike...so much fun. A couple things to watch out for.. The bike is extremely heavy, so you may want to determine if that is a concirn.. If it is brand new you should be fine with both the torque sensor and Pinion controler. Those both went out on me. Depending on where you are Stromer service has been great when problems come up. Get some sort of Flat protection like Tannus liners... You dont want to get a flat tire in this thing.. hard to change and a pain to push. :) .. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know what you end up with.

    Hi Jason! As i am considering a St7 as well, i'd love your point of vue on the following: my local Stromer dealer is offering me a demo ST7 with 50miles on it with 5% discount. although i can afford a full price if i must , the discount is certainly interesting. considering the pinion issue you faced on yours and all the other issues that other St7 owners have described in forums, do you think the increased potential risk of misuse inherent with acquiring a demo e-bike and how sophisticated thus delicate ST7 is, do you think the demo is still worth getting or would you go for a new one? your POV would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

    • @jasonlynch9979
      @jasonlynch9979 23 дні тому

      @@rptempmail1 I think that would be a good deal.. a couple things I would want to ask. 1. Make sure you would get the full warranty on the bike. If so you should be fine. 2. You can see when the bike was manufactured … I bought mine in July of 2023 … so anything around or before that date you would want to be careful of that pinion issue. I also know that in April 2024 they changed the Torque Sensor design … that could be a consideration as well (given I just had to have mine replaced).

Much appreciate it! interesting to hear about your torque sensing issue since myself i am an owner of a st1x that just died after 5 years of flawless service. I was told by the dealer: cause of death is due to a defective toque sensing related part inside the motor (apparently a known issue by Stromer) which would cost at least over $800 to repair by the dealer, which i may just choose to forgo and replace the bike. Thanks again!

    • @jasonlynch9979
      @jasonlynch9979 23 дні тому

      @@williamgate5852 Hi William.. Yes the Bluetooth is finicky depending on what you are trying to do. You should be able to pair your bike with your phone (I think it took me twice). This will let you register your bike etc. Then it gets strange from there.. You can only use one Bluetooth connection feature. Example: if you have the helmet and pair that.. you then cannot use the Auto Unlock feature or dashboard feature … you have to pick one or the other. So depending on what you are trying to do you can think you are doing everything correctly but there is a system limitation. I think this is not the best experience given I can connect tons of Bluetooth devices to my phone and use them all at the same time to include my car. But Stromer you can only pick 1 feature. I would suggest if you cannot do the initial pairing you should contact your dealer.

    I live in Switzerland. It's a great bike but....... here are some complaints:- My 14 grand (CHF) ST7 motor overheats on flat rides after 10 miles - no hills - and the S mode then stops. In 3 it's difficult for me to see the assistance being better than my wife's 3 grand Diamant bike! Awfully hard to pedal. The motor then only cools down after another 10-20 minutes minimum. This is in ALL temps of 8 to 38 degs C (the warmer, the more it overheats obviously). Doesn't matter. The bike is also very difficult to calibrate and STAY calibrated. Bumps knock it out and then you have to recalibrate it. This is on 2 replaced sensors since purchase. The Pirellis gave me 3 punctures in a year. I changed to Schalbe PickUps - no punctures. Solutions:- Drill holes in the motor casing for ventilation. Yeh, right! (flawed design imho). It's like paying 4 million for a Bugatti Chiron which gives you 1500 horse power for only 20% of your drive..... and the rest is not more than a Golf GTI. Redesign the calibrator and stop giving us the more expensive overhyped Pirellis. Overall it is in NO WAY worth 14 grand and I am now looking around for a replacement.

      @@1thaleb Hi… thanks for watching and your comments.. I agree with your comments and while I haven’t experienced everything you have there are some common issues. I recently had the torque sensor replaced the bike is working much better now. Did have a flat not due to a puncture but due to a pinched tube so that sucked.. I do have the Tanus (I think that is the brand) tire liners installed.. As far as sport mode I agree that it is limited based on outside temp, also if I use it up hill it could be a shorter amount of time. I get maybe 10-15min in the summer but I have not had a problem in cooler temps but I am in an extreme heat region. As far as the overall motor overheating in any of the other assist levels I have not had a problem. It will be interesting to see if Stromer adopts the Pinion power unit in future bikes. Thanks again for commenting.. Ride Safe.

      @@Cleared2Productions The GPS is only useful if you want to overlay Speed data or location data for example (amongst other data that is collected). GoPros in the past used to have GPS chips in them and now the trend is to not include the chip in the cameras to reduce heat and battery usage. So what happens is the GPS remote sends the data to the camera and imbeds it into the video.. Then you have the option to display that info overlayed in your video or not (if you need it). You can check out my ride videos and see the data on the screen.. it’s coming from this remote. I have not come up with a use case yet of needing two cameras at once (yet) but at least the capability is available with this new remote.

      @@jasonlynch9979 Hi Jason and and thanks for your offer to help. as i am considering a St7 as well, i'd love your point of vue on the following: my local stromer dealer is offering me a demo ST7 with 50miles on it with 5% discount. although i can afford a full price if i must , the discount is certainly interesting. considering the pinion issue you faced on yours and all the other issues that other St7 owners have described in forums, do you think the increased potential risk of misuse inherent with acquiring a demo e-bike and how sophisticated thus delicate ST7 is, do you think the demo is still worth getting or would you go for a new one? your POV would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

    Thanks for sharing your story Jason. I’m not Strömer owner but saw a local advertisement for the brand and wanted to checkout some reviews. I bought a kalkhoff pedelec 28 miles rated bike a couple of years back and went from not having biked for years to using at least 2-3 times a week. It is one of the best things I have done for myself as it keeps you active and I have stopped using the car for all my local commute and shopping. I’m totally onboard with the concept of paddle assist biking and the fact that you need to put energy into it before you move. I heard you mention that you would like a feature for automatic tracking of your bike rides. I would recommend to take a look at garmin they have a little device you fit on the on the wheel of your bike. It starts tracking the minute the wheels start turning. I think your channel is the start of a personal journey for you and your bike set some goals and show the rest of us what you and bike can do and have fun while doing it. Lastly to all the haters saying that it is an overpriced bike - remember the difference between boys and men is the price on their toys. Greetings from denmark

      @@Dr4g0nW00d Hi… Thanks for watching and commenting.. I did research the Specter.. The problem is you could not get it in the United States. The other bike I thought was really intriguing was the Evari 866. They could unlock the bike to be a Class 3 (28mph) but they were not set up to ship to the U.S. . I am super happy with the ST7 but maybe for the ST8 Stromer can be more creative. The technology is changing so fast. Super fun to think about. … Thanks again.. Ride Safe.

Took my ST7 out for the first real ride today and have 1 question for you: did you notice any front wheel instability or wobble? I know some hub motor bikes experience this but I never felt it in my ST5 so curious if you experienced it, especially at slower speeds?

      Hi, I use this SP Connect universal phone mount: amzn.to/3KPrJjS. The Stromer comes with an SP Connect adapter; you just need to match whether it's the original mount or the newer + mount. They make a universal mount for both systems.

    • @jasonlynch9979
      @jasonlynch9979 2 місяці тому

      Hi, thanks for watching. This is my first e-bike, so my initial expectations were that this thing was going to launch uphill. That is not the case on super steep hills. It is still faster than a regular bike, but there is a ton of effort on super steep hills, and your speed goes down to maybe 4-5mph. You can speed through the video on the Red Rock Canyon ride and see the speed drop while going up a really steep climb. Watching other e-bike videos with 1K+ watt motors that seem to be expected on really steep hills.

    Question - how is this bag installed/attached to the rack? thx

    • @jasonlynch9979
      @jasonlynch9979 2 місяці тому

      The bag has clips at the bottom that snap or lock onto the rack. You can see how that system works on the Racktime website.The Stromer comes with a Racktime-compatible rack, so any of their bags will work. If you have a newer Stromer, it should say on the rack itself. If you have an older one you may want to check with your bike shop.

    This remote only really works with the X4 perfectly, when you connect the X4 and the Ace Pro together and turn both cameras off and then hit the record button so that both cameras power on and start recording immediately, only the X4 will turn on and start recording. Now if both cameras are already on then they both record just fine, so something is messed up here. All cameras and remote are on the lates firmware as of 6/14/2024
