Might be getting a bit ahead of myself as I've only got as far as cementing all the threaded bars. Orbital fasteners for the all the ground pins as you recommend were also fantastic! Thanks for putting out all these great videos.

    Hi mate currently building one on a concrete base, however the base is bigger than the shed itself. Will this be a problem with rain water potentially being able to run under the shed? Will I have trouble with water evaporating and causing damp?

    Hi Steve, looks like an interesting job, i'm planning on doing ours next year so watching for tips... is that a soil stack in the corner? our 1960's house also has an internal toilet waste (which I always thought was unusual, every house we've had in the past has had external toilet waste... are you planning to relocate it outside or is it best to leave it internal? looking forward to following your progress. also we had Wickes fit our last kitchen, they were awful, hope you have better luck than us

    • @TheHomeRenovationExperts
      @TheHomeRenovationExperts Місяць тому

      Hello Mark! Cheers for the comment fella! Yeah soil stacks in side are a pain! But round my way it’s standard. To answer the question this one is staying where it is and the gutters are going to chop a section out the back of a unit to allow for it. I’ll be then boxing it in and painting it. Making the best of it really. And really hope wickes do a good job for her as she is lovely!! What did they balls up on your fella??

    • @markdyballuk
      @markdyballuk Місяць тому

      @@TheHomeRenovationExperts thanks for taking the time to explain Steve much appreciated. Wickes wise the problem was they employ freelance fitters and we got a particularly bad one. everything was a problem for him and (like some workmen) he showed up sporadically rather than doing the job from start to finish he didn't show up for a couple of days (other jobs) but made poor excuses... in fairness the order turned up complete and in plenty of time BUT the fitter was a real problem. He tried to charge us for electric work inspection when it was included in the total price we'd paid when we ordered the kitchen... i ended up asking the wickes area manager to leave our house as his attitude was terrible... i really hope that wickes have sorted out their fitters and your job goes well. better to know before, I'm sure it's the luck of the draw Steve. all my best and thanks for your work, yours is a great channel.

    In my experience putting 2 nails at the same height in every board can cause the boards to split in the summer or cup in the winter, as the timber cannot expand or contract between the nails. I found it best to single nail at every batten, of course ensuring that the nail doesn't penetrate the board below. I have however seen boards successfully nailed the same way as you have done it without splitting. Not sure why.

    • @TheHomeRenovationExperts
      @TheHomeRenovationExperts Місяць тому

      Yeah I agree, but in my experience when yiu do get the splitting from fixing like this, 9/10 there was a defect in the board and a weak point 👍👊

      @gareth204 Місяць тому

      You clearly don’t understand the link between the UK permitted development rights and height restrictions vs warm roof, cold roof, or hybrid roof. What you tried to explain, clearly not being able to name it, was a warm roof. An OSB, PIR, OSB ‘sandwich’ roof a waterproofing layer on top like rubber, etc. Great in practice, and great if you want to pay out for planning permission to go over the 2.5m height regulation. Now apply that to a PDR build, and if you went warm roof you’d be banging your head on the internal ceiling. Clearly your brain isn’t engaging with the limitations vs the best solution 🤦‍♂️ And who has a go at free content on UA-cam! 🤡

      Oh yes! Same with cutting out the sockets and light switches, these builds are doing the most and best we can within the limitations that we face. 👌👍

    Why wouldn't you do that first before the roof, or at least use a flitch beam. What would you call the insulation method in your roof, is it a cold roof, hybrid or warm roof..queries

      Hello Tony!! So the steel was ordered but slow delivery, so instead of ‘stopping’ the build I just carried on 👍🤣 And roof is hybrid which works great in these low occupancy builds. In ideal world a warm roof would be my preference but can’t under permitted development 🤷‍♂️

    Or… glue a nut on the back of the dinky level. Screw it on a couple of threads and….Hey presto it’s flat again 😀

    hi Steve. I'm currently building a similar building and my sparky said it's 'not good practice' to run the cables on the outside. I asked why and he said it's just considered correct to run them internally where the conditions are more likely to be stable. It makes sense but it comes under that 'overkill' heading imo

      That does make sence but I’m with you thinking it’s a tad over kill! 🤣 Cheers for the comment!
