Epigenetics Explained Simply
Stephen Thomas and Richard Smith discuss the concept of epigenetics, sharing his personal journey from obesity and health issues to becoming a professional bodybuilder. He explains the difference between genetics and epigenetics, emphasising how lifestyle and diet can influence gene expression. The discussion delves into the science of DNA, protein synthesis, and the role of histones and enzymes in gene expression. Richard also critiques common dietary recommendations, particularly focusing on cruciferous vegetables and their potential negative effects on health due to compounds like isothiocyanates and oxalates. He highlights the importance of understanding these concepts for better health management. In this conversation, they discuss the impact of various foods on health, particularly focusing on the dangers of certain commonly consumed items like fruits and vegetables that may contain harmful compounds. They emphasise the importance of understanding epigenetics and how nutrition can influence DNA expression. The discussion also covers the concept of weight set points, the role of a ketogenic and carnivore diet in health, and the implications of dietary choices on cancer treatment.

Amazing that you could do training in Bangkok heat and with all that pollution. I work for a company where almost everyone is over 60 years old. Our meetings are on the third floor and there’s no elevator so it takes about five minutes to get up the stairs because everyone is so slow. I’m 61 and I am springing up them because of my carnivore lifestyle. One guy has to go down the stairs backwards because there’s so much pain in his knees. This is in a country (Japan ) where eating vegetables is considered a virtue. One guy is over 90 and he’s got the most severe arthritis I’ve ever seen in my life. Surviving but not exactly thriving is my opinion of Japan’s vaunted longevity.

Just watched Lee's video on melon belly. Fruitatarians eating so much fruit in one sitting that they get extreme pain just above the belly. Seems it could stress on the pancreas due to so much sugar. They think it is healthy. There just is no hope for some people.

Nick Norwitz is brilliant because he is realistic about the ever developing science of Lipidology. He doesn't deny the (possible) risks of high LDLc..as so many other low-carb & carnivore / paleo dieters do (40:15). And he's doing sterling work pushing the science forward..which eventually may benefit us all...carnivore, plant-based or otherwise!

I think it’s weird and sad when problems with sweeteners come about there is so much effect on the low carb community…. Even people who care so much about their health are so scared of missing out on sweet tastes. I think we will come to find out that all sweeteners have side effects. Thank you for this stream and for endangering your health for these experiments. I used a cgm for about 6 months, and as a carnivore, as you say, it is very boring. 😴

Nice graphics! Looks simple to understand even for the lay person. Although the experiments you did are interesting, I would like to see more carnivore stuff, e.g. different dairy products and mainly different types and amounts of meat, like fatty vs lean, and a large amount of lean. Keep up the good work.

What adverts did UA-cam put up that upset you? If I get to 600 views I might earn just over £5.50. Currently my 100 views have earned $1. I don’t think it’s a good business model to pay £53 for 2 weeks of CGM wearing and then report on it. I’ll break even at 6,000 views. That might happen in about 2 years.

I could have written this story myself. Back in september I spent 3 days in the icu with them getting my BP down. 230s/150. I lost 75 pounds in 3 months due to developed digestion issues from lack of blood digesting food. I eventually went to a regular room where i spent another 4 days. Kidneys were functioning at less than 10% creatinine was also high. Lost They sent me for plasma exchange and put the tube in my jugular. I didnt end up needing it. They wanted to do a biopsy and dialysis which i refused. I want the natural route as i was only 32 and spent my 33rd birthday in there.

I don't care for chicken as I remember it when it was very tastey. Now it's dry and has a nasty flavor, without a sugar BBQ coating. Chicken soup is mostly what I use them for now. Chicken soup back then was amazing, now it's ok. In winter I add carrots and celery to give it better flavor. Apologies for the negativity. 🐔 🍲 Thanks guys!
