Surviving My FIRST Solo Winter Camping Trip in the NEW Canvas HOT Tent
Hmmm hockey a game played in various forms for thousands of years. Ice hockey, a North American winter variation first played indoors in Canada in 1875.
Buffalo? Did Yellowknife once have buffaloes roaming about? !
Derek all I can say is you learn by doing, you can watch as many videos as you want but real life teaches, I personally think you did a great job and commend you for it. I quite enjoyed the video, I’ve watched other people make those type of shelters with a clear painters tarp in the front and side to retain the heat. Looking forward to the next adventure and stay safe till next time.
Great video
Great video. You have a beautiful daughter who is helpful too. Having a good life ❤
5:25' Are these northern lights ?????? You are so lucky my friend 😊
Work hard, play hard, enjoy your time with your kids, what could be better! Glad to see you have the stove all figured out.
Super amazing video, love the content from northern lights to the pancakes and the skating.awesome channel.cheers bro.
Really enjoying your content! How long did it take to shovel the snow off the rink? Sure wish we had some of that snow here near Port Dover(southern Ontario on Lake Erie…..freakin banana belt😢)!
Great video, nice to see you hanging out with your daughter.
Orion's Belt was very prominent in your night sky scenes. Next time bring an auger, a sump pump, a length of garden hose and the Jackery to make yourself a poor man’s Zamboni 😊 Now I gotta go make pancakes 😂
Thanks for sharing more of your weekend adventures….. it looked a little warmer during this episode lol. I’ve only tried the bison burgers once and I wasn’t impressed. I bought it from a farmers market in Calgary,Alberta but maybe I just had a bad batch so I’ll give it another shot someday. The rink looks great and I’m curious to see what you MacGyver up to make the ice smoother and harder. Maybe auger an hole outside the skating surface and use a portable water pump to flood it? Stay safe and as ALWAYS I’ll be waiting for my notification bell to let me know another video has been posted
Derek great video and making memories with your daughter even more special.
Great! Now that you guys have the rink shovelled I’ll be over for a skate! (Ha Ha!) Another beautiful video my friend! Take care and see you on the next one!
Awesome video brother! A 20lb propane tank and one of those weed killer torches will help with smoothing out the top layers of ice and harden it up and give you a better surface to skate on. Just heat up the surface enough to melt it so it smooths out and work your way up and down the rink then let sit and refreeze for a little while. Worth giving it a shot at least. Keep up the great work man!
Derek another amazing video. The burgers looked delicious and your daughter’s pancakes made my mouth water, there is nothing better than real maple syrup. Too bad you couldn’t flood the ice rink with water to get it good and smooth but it will get better as time goes on. Thanks for taking us along , and we will see you on the next one 👍
Great video as always. Thanx for sharing
Super cool life You are a good man Very best 🍁
Great video, Bear. Those burgers looked so good, and great job on the rink. Fun to watch you two play! Our family played a little hockey in Michigan growing up 👍
Happy New yr from down under Derek. Well done to you and your daughter. Burgers looked awesome. Those northern lights always look great.great hockey rink.
Good Job Derek! Love watching your adventures!
When they can't find a part on the market for their 80 year old planes they just borrow the closest match from the car junkyard next to the planes (@2:15min) and vice-versa!
You can hear the cold in everything that you do, floors creaking, putting the wood in the stove, and just walking in the snow. Great video man, keep it up.
I do the exact same thing with all of my paracord. I have no idea how to stop it... lol also, I use branches to move my pots around instead of my hands, will help your gloves last longer. And if you're not trying to be 100% primitive, keep a zip loc baggy of cotton balls mixed with vaseline. They burn like a candle wick, you will never have trouble lighting a fire again. Keep up the good work man, love your videos. Just subscribed today <3
Dude, this is the perfect blue collar, every day regular guy out doing what he loves. @ 27:58 your daughter was eyeballing your beverage, almost time to keep it under lock and key! I thoroughly enjoy this type of stuff, I hope you make weekend ice fishing trips that I can watch in the future. Right from picking your fishing spot to making the morning coffee, I love all of it. Good job
Hi Derick….you have an awesome ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ channel, amazing content.congrats to your new subscribers and to get your channel to go through the roof.keep warm bro.cheers
The tent looks so big and cozy 🏡 🏕️
you're nuts buddy. keep it up!
Wow that is definitely cold, I can see why the tent had a hard time warming up as the wood and everything else in the tent has to warm up before the ambient temperature will. You have to have a hockey rink as a Canadian, almost mandatory, growing up in Montreal we used to make them in the laneway behind the house. Another great video, stay safe and try to stay warm.
Thats a great looking spot you have! Subscribed
Welcome aboard! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! What part of Maine are you guys at? I miss the trees out that way…. Especially in the autumn!
@SubArcticAdventures just north of newport... central maine!!!
Air conditioning pumping whilst watching you freezing. Bloody hot here. Cannot imagine living in that cold but enjoy watching. Keep it up.
Thanks so much Peter! Our world is amazing. Extreme cold here. Extreme hot there. Do you guys ever get snow in your winter times?
Just found your channel and enjoying it. Been a long time subscriber to Jay and Dave of Up North of 60 also. I always have trouble with the screen on top of my chimney plugging when I am on hunting trips. Not sure if that might be your problem or not.
Welcome! Glad you can join us and are liking the channel so far! It means the world to us! I’m definitely going to keep an eye on the chimney cap for sure! Thanks!
Happy New Year . Man it's COLD 🥶 there, we are having an unusual mild winter here on the east coast, many of our larger ponds still don't have ice,and I read the week that this is the first time in recorder history that Labrador coast has not yet started freezing and making Artic pack ice. Been many years since I cleaned a pond to skate on. Charlie sounds like a rebel lol. Lights look great , the portable solar panels definitely better than a noisy generator especially trying to film lol. Hope you have an awesome week
Thanks Garry! How’re you guys making out now? Has it gotten colder out your way yet?
@SubArcticAdventures it's gotten a little colder , last week few days and nights -10 to -15 but still no snow here maybe 5 cm on the ground now and temps back up to around -3 ....different winter here
Holy god man... let us know and we will fly out to help shovel lol. Awesome job. Love watching.
Forget that. I’m coming your way. 😂 That Alaskan Arctic Oven looks like a sweet setup on your channel!
@SubArcticAdventures thanks. We are having fun with this youtube thing. Learning from great people like you.
@@AllagashDestinations That’s exactly how we got into it too. The feeling you get from interacting with people through a channel you’ve created is hard to describe to people who aren’t doing it themselves, eh? Keep it up! ❤️
Nice work thinking of others with the tree branches around the rink. That is a lot of work with a shovel, keeps you healthy, lol. Too dang cold for a snow blower, try 0-30 oil, may work better.
Thanks Garry! I’ll take a look at the thinner oil for sure. It’s all fixed up now. It was a blown seal, probably because of the thicker oil. You know as well as I do about the tree branches in the snow.. it’s northern talk for “holy crap, there’s something there!” 😂🤣
I’m glad to hear that the channel is growing. It should continue to grow. You’re a very nice guy and you offer great content.
Thanks Alan! I owe it all to you guys and your support that keep us motivated!

100% 🇨🇦
Hey Bear, you did a ton of work on the hockey rink! Loved the new lights too. Enjoyed the video and keep up the good work!
Thanks Roger. It’s so amazing how much better those lights are. I have a feeling that there will be lots of shoveling for that rink all winter long! 😂😅
Totally Canadian 🇨🇦🇨🇦 Cheers Bud from PG. BC. 👍🇨🇦🇨🇦👍
Can’t wait to actually play a bit of shinny on ‘er. 🇨🇦
Hi Derek! That’s too cold for this Ontario softy! Shame the snowblower broke down. It would have made quick work of that light powdery snow! Take care and stay warm!
I realllly wish it worked too. I had a pretty cool vision of becoming an abominable snowman for you guys! 🤣😂. Oh well. Sometimes the video creation doesn’t always go to plan 😅. Thanks for the patience!
Awesomeness buds .Great set up. Way to go Lexi!!!! I just watched a guy who bought the identical tent. He built a platform sled and mounted the tent to it . Perfect setup and great to hav3 a floor and be off the ice.
Thanks Jay. I’d love to have a platform built for sure. Something that doesn’t take up much space and folds out. Maybe I’ll look at something for next year. Are you set up with your shanty yet?
Sounds like you should have followed your initial plan for a little deeper. Really liked this video, otherwise.
You’re 100%. Next time, I’ll go a bit deeper for sure. I’m thinking it’s about time to try it again here soon…
Awesome video. Have you seen invitation of underwater camera via email today?
Let's hear it for the SLED DOGS !! :) Awesome set-up.....sooooooo jelly as we still don't have the ice as yet. Great times 🍁
Any ice yet?
I would pay for an experience of a winter camping trip. Taken there by snowmobile, help with chopping wood, fishing, cooking and enjoying good company. It would be such a great learning experience. :-)
It’s something I really wish everyone had a chance to experience in their lifetime. It really resets the soul and spirit! 🥰
nice set up. Gonna have to try the overnight camp on the ice myself this year with any luck. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks so much! It was definitely pretty luxurious, not gonna lie! I know there are some hardcore campers out there and I have nothing but respect. Just subbed to your channel and will check out the hunting video down the road (saved it to my watch later list - and that list isn't large). Cheers! //derek
@@SubArcticAdventures Thanks for sub appreciate it. We hope to have some ice fishing vids sometime soon as well. Cheers! Kevin
