  • @roamingearth915
    @roamingearth915 4 дні тому

    Maybe if you were to raise your chimney. A foot or two higher will make a difference above the peek of the tent. It may need some cables with a stack that long. Nice setup!! Winter wonderland 🍁 very best :)

    • @alanbierhoff6831
      @alanbierhoff6831 3 дні тому

      💯%👍🏻 The top of the chimney has to be above the peak of the roof to achieve constant proper draft.

    Great video, there is something about being along in the woods with the quiet, gives you time to recharge the soul from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I’m glad you woke up and saw the smoke it could have been really bad but it all worked out. I’m sure you’ll find the problem and will have many amazing nights at the tent. Looking forward to the next one.

  • @garryprosser6396
    @garryprosser6396 5 днів тому

    Glad I joined (thru Jay). Had a similar problem with smoke in my wood stove - at the house; a down draft and scared my wife. I was across the street and that's the last time I used the stove. Another person commented on the stove turned down and that would reduce the pressure going out so any wind could cause a reversal. Regardless, hope you get it worked out and we'll wait for your next adventure. Very best.

  • @garryfoote695
    @garryfoote695 5 днів тому

    Have make sure you put your chimney together with male ends towards the stove, so creosote will run down the inside of the pipe into the stove. If you put it together the other way around, creosote will run out at the joints of the pipes and burn and cause a lot of real strong smoke. I have a stove almost the same as yours, produces a lot of creosote when you turn it down for the evening. Been there done that, have fun!

    That’s a scary feeling being waken by smoke in the middle of the night. Glad you woke up in time. Hopefully you resolve the issue so it don’t happened again. What do you do for entertainment at night when it’s too dark to do work outside effectively? As usual the food looked incredible!!! Stay safe and I’ll be on the lookout to see how the Woodstove situation turned out. Cheers brother ☕️☕️

    Hey Brother good to see the Video! I know all about tying mantels with thick cold fingers! ;) Yum I need to come for a BBQ! Wonder if a nest was in your pipe and it dried out and fell into the elbow.

  • @JScott155
    @JScott155 5 днів тому

    With those stoves if the stoves not burring hot it tends to push the smoke back down the chimney with the draft system in the bottom. With a hot fire going keeps the pipe hot and smoking going up. Use to have one in the cabin for a short time and it did the same got rid of it. It was bad for the smoke coming back in when the fire was simmering low.

    Looks like an amazing trip out on the skidoo on the ice. Looks like your pass what seem to be small islands on the way with clumps of trees? Do you still need to go over that little creek albeit frozen? I guess or is there a bypass track you go up over?

    Hands down, the best firestarter is cotton balls half dipped in vaseline, takes the first spark every time and long lasting. I always carry some in pill bottles. Life savers. Got that tip from an Eskimo 40 years ago

  • @duncanm6589
    @duncanm6589 6 днів тому

    Derek, I agree with you about those serving sizes on various things. I reckon half the time when it says one serve it’s probably for a very small pygmy. 😊. That fire sounds interesting how it backdrafts a lot. Do you think the fire gets enough fresh air coming in through gaps in the tent so there’s enough oxygen there? I see on one of your more recent videos You’ve changed over to new fireplace/stove.

    Definitely always idea to check the ice thickness , that wind made be shiver , sounded Cold Brrrrr , and I'm not exactly one who minds the cold LOL. I gotta get me a ice fishing tent to for some winter fishing I've been throwing hints as Christmas approached but I'm pretty sure Santa hasn't heard them yet LOL. Now I'm looking for one for two cots and a wood stove LOL. I want to be able to Cook , probably be eating steak too with my fishing luck LOL. Need a welding blanket around the tent to keep the heat from the heater , of course won't help falling in the hole LOL. Three of my four kids are lefties LOL. As I say it's Fishing not catching , it's all about the adventure ....I keep telling myself that LOL. Hope you have an awesome week looking forward to the next adventure
